The Story

History
The kraken began life as a small octopus creature. He was the last of his extraordinarily long lived race. He settled at the bottom of the sea, not doing much more then eating and growing. Who knows how long he lived before he made his existence known to the land peoples. Finally the humans made their boat. As it sailed over the surface the kraken saw something he had never seen before. He watched every boat the passed him and learned what very little he could from watching. Eventually, his curiosity pushed him to reach up and touch the wooden exterior of a passing boat. As he touched, he reached further and further until he realized he wanted to see not touch. He crushed the ship and as it sunk the kraken saw humans for the first time. He toyed with the corpses for a long while, watching the hair fly and the limbs wave about in the current. He developed a technique for destroying the ships and examining their contents. He learned a way to create a breathable atmosphere around the humans he dragged underwater. He continued like this for sometime before something different happened. He reached up and easily punctured the ship, but this time, when the humans entered the water there were two holding each other. As he tried to pull one away from the other the female began to scream silently and the male only clutched all the tighter. This was such a curious event that he pulled memories and emotions from the male to discover what exactly he was thinking. He killed the male for the kraken had found that humans that had their memories removed no longer had a will to live and even when he released them they would sink back to the bottom, drowning as they went. He kept the female close for awhile, observing her. Water spilt from her eyes for a long time, but slowly her eyes faded and she stopped moving. She was dead. The kraken felt guilty for his actions and for a long time he stopped destroying ships and thought about this strange event. The next time that he encountered a human was his last. He knew not the circumstances around the event, only that a tiny human sunk to him and he gave it air and watched it. Then, long bolts of sharp metal and wood struck him and he rose towards the surface in anger. At the last moments a human shot the last bolt into the kraken’s left eye. Immediately, kraken’s fury burst and he began to sink, suddenly aware of the blood he had lost. He died longing to understand these humans who could float on water, and be delicate and powerful at the same time.

Why He Needs A Second Chance
The kraken from the moment he was ‘born’ to the moment he died lived without anything. He had his food and his vague excuse for a life, but nothing to really remember and to hold dear. As the human race expanded to the sea he was able to see what was out there. He witnessed lovers dying for each other, the bond of a family and experienced the touch of a child. As he was killed by the fisherman’s hook, he recognized loneliness as a very human and also a very real feeling within himself. As he died, the kraken wished for a second chance.

A Story
Let me tell you a story, my dearest one. It is the story of a time. Perhaps it is a time that was, and perhaps it is a time that is still to be.

There was a small coast side town. It was a fishing village and all of its inhabitants were fishers. There was a young girl in this village. She was small, and her father was the most well known man of the village. No one knew why he caught so many more fish, but he was a kind man and shared his wealth with the village. He had only one child, the daughter that I have just mentioned, and his wife had been claimed by the sea soon after the child’s birth.

One day, the fisherman took his daughter out on his boat over his favorite fishing spot. She laughed and paddled the water. The trip was a happy one and at the end of the day they returned to their home. The next day, the fisherman refused to bring out his daughter despite her crying and fitting in the morning. Suddenly the girl gave up and went back into the house. The fisherman, though a little nervous, headed out to his boat and left for the day.

At about noon, the daughter walked out and wandered through the town to the beach. On the beach she looked out at the water and believed that her father would see her and take her with him. When he didn’t show up after a short time, she approached the water. She waited and when he still didn’t show up she began to swim out to sea. But she was small and her swimming skills were lacking. She struggled and soon began to swallow water and she began to choke.

Then, she felt something grab her leg. She smiled for she believed her father had finally come. But it wasn’t her father. It was a huge tentacle that began to drag her down into the depth. The girl’s lungs began to cry for air and she struggled, but the tentacle wouldn’t let her go. She was slowly pulled into a deep pit of darkness, but once she had descended completely she realized she could breathe. It frightened her, but soon many other tentacles wrapped around her. Their touch was gentle and she was reminded of her father, and she fell asleep in the dark.

On the surface, the fisherman returned home to an empty house. He searched the place from top to bottom, tearing apart even his most precious belongings to find her. The small village found out, they all searched their own homes and the nearby countryside. It was then that the fisherman remembered that she had wanted to go with him earlier that day. He ran to the beach and leapt into the water. He returned many hours later without his daughter.

Then, the village elder stood up and spoke of the kraken. He said that it had sunk ships and captured girls and women to eat. The fisherman knew that this is where his daughter had gone. He gathered the village's men and they went out to kill the kraken and rescue the fisherman’s daughter. Once they reached the water and were over the fisherman’s favorite spot, they armed the harpoons and waited.

Nothing happened for a long time. The fisherman became anxious and without warning launched one of the harpoons into the water, blindly hoping it would awaken the kraken. Soon the water began to boil and many tentacles broke the surface and wrapped around the ship. As the tentacles began to break the ship apart, harpoons were shot and spears were jabbed deep into the flesh of the creature. But these feeble attempts at damaging the kraken only seemed to make it more angry. The water began to boil faster and a huge looming shadow sped toward the surface.

Just as it seemed to monster would win, the fisherman shot a bolt into the shadow. Blood began to cloud the water and with a final crack the ship collapsed into the water. The shadow slipped away until the villagers barely remembered it had been there. They returned home. The villagers celebrated the monster’s death, but the fisherman stayed home for his daughter had not been returned to him.

A few days later as the fisherman began to leave for the day he saw a small body washed up on the beach. It was his daughter. She was dead. She had drowned. The fisherman cried for the first time since his wife had died. Her funeral was held. The fisherman never went to sea again believing it to be a wicked place that gave and took without reason.

But do you know the real reason why the fisherman’s daughter died, my dear? It was because he killed the kraken, who had wanted only to feel the touch of a child.

Personality and Powers

Predicted Likes/Dislikes
Favorite...
... colors: Light blue, grey
... foods: Calamari, sushi and chicken (O.O WTF?)
... clothing styles: Loose, simple
... animals: Octopus, rat, human

Least Favorite...
... colors: Bright colors, especially yellow and sky blue
... foods: Most vegetables,
... clothing styles: Anything too tight, layers (unless absolutely necessary)
... animals: Squid, birds

Predicted Personality Stages - Baby through Teen

Baby ? The baby is completely silent. The expression in his eyes makes him look ready to cry. But he doesn't, ever. It makes it difficult to know when something is wrong.

Toddler ? He's started making sound, but only just. He isn't learning to speak at all, or if he is he isn't saying anything. He likes curling up in a corner and seems to be attracted to any source of water in the house. I find him watching the tap run more often then I'd like to admit. Perhaps we should go see a doctor.

Child ? He spoke. Thank goodness. He has started interacting with the children around him a little bit more. He loves the frequent visits to the lake that we take. It is one of the few things that I am sure will make him happy if he's feeling depressed.

Teen ? He is still quiet, though it's obvious that he has a personality when he talks to his friends. He is not outgoing, but he isn't quite as shy as he used to be. He likes to have an opinion, but won't voice it if he feels like he's interrupting. He is very quietly rebellious. He still is extremely fond of the water.

((Unsure after this point))

Predicted Powers:
Not positive on everything now. Suggestions?

Influencing the current and controlling water
-WHY It was said that when the kraken rose from the depth or sank back to the bottom, its movement stirred the currents and created waves and enormous whirlpools.
-LIMITS No. Audun cannot change currents. If a river flows south it will continue to flow south no matter how hard Audun tries to change that. However, if he is unfortunate enough to be tossed into this river and needs to get to the shore, he can influence the current into moving him closer to the shore. He can also control water to some extent. He can pull a small amount of water out of a river and move it around. Maybe play with it a little. If he tries to walk away from the river, then his control will weaken and weaken until the water just falls out of his hands.
-WHEN Teen, though he won’t get full control of it unless he becomes an Ancient.
Breathing underwater
-WHY The kraken lived most of its life underwater, only coming to the surface once a year.
-LIMITS Not much. He could more or less live under water as long as he figured out a way to hunt... stuff.
-WHEN Discovered as a toddler. Rama wasn’t exactly willing to throw her new baby into a lake to see if he could breathe.
Strong
-WHY The most famous trait of the kraken is its ability to sink ships. Sinking a ship takes a good amount of strength to accomplish.
-LIMITS Audun can’t crush a ship. He would be able to get his arms around the thing for one. He’s not crazy strong, but if he wanted to he could bust through wood, and, maybe, when he got older he could cause some fair damage to stone.
-WHEN Kid-Adult, gets stronger as he gets older
Tentacles can stretch longer or short as needed (but can never go away)
I have no reason for this. I just wanted it. If it is unacceptable then I'll get rid of it.
Fish gather instinctively around him
-WHY Fish were said to gather around the kraken. Fisherman took the risk of fishing near a Kraken because of the great catch they often got.
-LIMITS If he stands on a beach in Florida, fish in Central America are not going to show up.
-WHEN Baby

Appearance and Art

Predicted Appearance:
None of these are fully decided on. These were just how I pictured them in my mind. The only thing I?d like to keep is the placement of his tentacles. I do like his skin color though...
General ? A boy of average build, though slightly on the thin side. He has gently green eyes and short, off-white hair. His skin is grey-blue. Wrapped around his waist are three pairs of tentacles. The tops are the same color as his skin, while the undersides are much lighter. The suckers have a faint pink tint. At the tip of each finger and toe are small, weak suckers.

Baby - A baby, bare from the waist up. As small poof of white hair is just beginning to grow. His eyes are unnaturally bright green. Unsure whether the baby has any legs. Where his legs would be, are eight tentacles.

Toddler - The baby has gotten a little older. His hair has thinned out and now covers the rest of his head. Eyes have faded into a more subdued shade of green. One pair of tentacles has vanished, and the rest seem to have come to life. They wave about rather uncontrollably. He does have legs.

Child - He has gained more control over his tentacles. He keeps them wrapped around his waist if he can. He likes his hair at about the bottom of his ear. Odd little suckers have shown up on his fingers and toes, but don't seem to be too much of a problem.

Teen - He's rather short and the suckers on his fingers have gotten bigger. They cause problems every now and then if he touches something the wrong way. His tentacles are firmly wrapped around his waist, though they have to move constantly to keep the suckers from sticking to his skin. He likes to keep his hair a little shorter now then when he was a child.

((Unsure after this point))

Any is appreciated heart

The Lost Child-Audun

Name: Audun
Gender: Male
Likes: Peace and quiet, chores, reading, gardening, swimming
Dislikes: Small talk, blushing, liars, persecution, dehydration
Strengths: Truth telling, following directions, gardening
Weaknesses: Small talk, dries out quickly
Personality: Having grown up with little to no contact with anyone new for most of his life, Audun has difficulty talking to people he doesn’t know. It also means that he is uncommonly truthful, almost cruelly so. He is rather naïve about the goings on of the world around him and tends to prefer peace and quiet to battle. Despite his like of peace, he has a curiosity that got him in trouble in city and will probably continue to get him into trouble on Gaia. He enjoys learning and becomes obsessed easily with what he is doing.
Appearance: See Appearance post.

Rama’s World Concept
The land of Atrodigem is very European in nature. It is green for the most part with forests and similar weather patterns. The land gently rolls in some places, but for the most part remains flat. Atrodigem is the only country on the planet. It spreads in a wide band around the planet with large holes around the equator. The only places where there is next to no civilization are the very extremes: the poles where it is near impossible to live anyway (and there is no actual land, just ice blocks) and the equator where it is terribly hot and a wonderful breeding ground for some of the worst disease of the world. Only the bravest, stupidest or most desperate live in these areas of the world. The sentient races of Atrodigem include humans and (originally) many different races of magical creature. The humans are just as intelligent and just as magically incapable as in our world. Living close to these humans for hundreds of years were the creatures of magic, also referred to as Venenslat Many years of the human’s history were spent trying to discover a human that could use the magic of the earth. As the humans discovered they had no ability to use this power, a new sect religious sect rose. It gained followers in huge masses and swept across the country. The sect leaders gave books to the humans that spoke of purification and untold riches in the afterlife. They preached that magic was the work of death and that those beings that used it would be doomed to live in eternal torment. Religious fever swept the countryside and then invaded the rest of the world. Wars broke out between the humans and the Others. The humans won almost every battle with sheer, never ending numbers. Many of the Venenslat were killed into extinction. Even more had populations that dropped dangerously low. Some disappeared forever from the world, but most obeyed the humans rule without argument.
To this day the Venenslat are not allowed to live in peace. An almost constant watch is kept on them. They are forbidden to live in a human city. Any culture they had has been wiped out completely. Most of them are simply happy to be alive and living ‘well.’ Into this world came a kitsune. She was small and insignificant in many ways. She grew up in the slums of the cities, protected by small pockets of magical beings. She ran from her home many times before finally settling in a human city. Then, she found her dear adopted son floating down the river one day.

Auden’s Life Before Coming To Gaia
Rama was out in the woods when she found Audun. She was weeding her garden, after all, magical gardens could not be grown in the city. As she pulled at the tiny parasitic branches she heard an odd pop and sploosh followed closely by crying. Rama, having learned caution from her rather difficult history, moved slowly toward the sound. When she reached the sound, she peered over the top of the bush she was behind. And saw a baby. Not a human baby. A small grey baby with tentacles for legs. She stared at this little thing which had immediately ceased its crying upon seeing her. There was something there. She felt draw to the babe, and, against her better judgment, she picked the child up and took it home.

Rama lived in a tiny run down building in the slums of a lavish human city. She knew it was no place for a baby. She also knew that if any human found out about the baby it would be taken away and, quite possibly, abused and studied for the rest of its life. She’d never seen anything like this baby and neither had any of her friends. It turned out that Audun, as she decided to call him, was easy to hide. He never made sound as a baby. Even when he hit toddler he seemed to recognize when Rama wanted him quiet.

Rama was quite surprised how long she was able to keep Audun a secret, but all secrets pertaining to the Venenslat are destined to be found out. Audun managed to grow into a child before Rama made the mistake of revealing Audun to a young, curious human girl. She thought the girl was trustworthy. She wasn’t. It was only a few days before the government’s soldiers came knocking on her door. Upon seeing the unwelcome visitors, Rama escaped with Audun.

They ran to the countryside, far from any large human city. Rama set up a small farm there. Occasionally she headed to the cities to buy spices, preservers and the like, but for the most part they supported themselves completely. Sporadically, a Venenslat would pass by and Rama gave the traveler shelter for a night or two. She refused all human visitors. Audun grew up working in the garden, with only Rama and an occasional guest to speak to. He wonders infrequently about his origins and is content with the books Rama brings him and the work that has to be performed everyday.

The Guardian

[Soon to be image]

Name: Ramalama
Nickname: Rama
Age: 110
Species: Kitsune
Eye Color: Amber
Hair Color: Black
Hair Style: Boyishly short
Skin Color: Pale
Build: Average
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120
Special Features: Auburn fox tail
Clothing: Wears a Japanese style, triangular hat to keep her eyes out of the sun. Her clothes are loose and simple; she hates layers unless they're absolutely necessary. She tries to go barefoot, but will wear sandals or sneakers if shoes are needed.
Personality: Rama is all about the rules. If you disobey the rules then, in her eyes, you really shouldn't be allowed to live. At the same time she is not socially brave enough (unless angered) to speak up for The Rules. More often then not, she ends up being the quiet one. She goes from speaking freely about anything with her friends to absolute silence when others are around. Of course, people who are her friends get a full dose of almost constant sugar high and a rather upbeat nature combined. Depression isn't a foreign word though. She just hates to be that way.

Everything seems to check out! I might advise you to rewrite your history from the point of view of the Kraken and not the little girl, however, as I got confused and thought it was she who would become the Fa'e and not the Kraken itself. There's a lot you could do to more fully illustrate his need for and lack of understanding of humanity.

The only reason I'm denying you a stamp at the moment is because of your powers, actually -- they're kind of all-over-the-place, and it's not clear as to whether he'll have all those by teen or whether he'll grow into them. Furthermore, they're kind of extreme -- how strong is his power to influence the current and control the water? Could he himself create enormous whirlpools? ...Can he actually sink a ship? You need to be a little more explicit, because otherwise it sounds very overpowered otherwise.
