Uhm...hi?Name: Sophie Cherise Bell Age: 24 Gender: Female Height: 5' 8'' Weight: 147 lbs Birthday: February 12 ( Aquarius) Occupation: Store Clerk Former Residence: Santa Monica, CA Appearance: The first noticeable thing about Sophie is that she isn’t all that noticeable if she chooses not to be. A bit on the tall side at 5’ 8’’, any womanly curvature she has is hidden under loose clothing, usually two layers of it. Her hair is springy, and curls in ringlets down past her chin but before her shoulders in a short cut, framing a cutesy, dollish face. Soft blue eyes look out at the world underneath barely visible lashes, and although her lips are not voluptuously full, her smile still has a feminine touch to it. Usually, her movements are clumsy and silly, and she often trips on things that most people wouldn’t even notice. She looks as if she could be just about anyone: the girl next door, the bank teller, or even just another passerby. The only thing out of place with her goody-two-shoes look is a small black Aquarius tattoo imprinted on her left shoulder, usually hidden from view. One notable thing about her clothing style is her love of socks. Sophie collects all kinds of socks: fuzzy ones, padded ones, ones with the toes separated…whether or not you can actually seem them, it’s pretty much guaranteed that she’s wearing a pair of funky socks. She’s also a fan of comfortable clothing: in her opinion, if she can’t sleep in it, then she has no business wearing it. This often is the case, as at times she falls asleep randomly. Personality: At first glance, Sophie is shy and reclusive, often seen alone reading, writing, or simply staring off into space with a pensive look on her face. She’s not the type to make introductions without reason: usually, you have to bump into her or start up a conversation on your own to get her going. That’s all it takes for her to come out of her shell, though: once a person gets to know her, Sophie is a high energy ball of fun with a bit of a random streak and a witty tongue that slips just enough times to get her in and out of trouble. It’s easy to tell that she’s got some form of a brain, but she hides it under what’s left of her naivety, and people often find her a bit ditzy from first impressions. However, the image of her under the surface is a much darker one, and not often seen except to her closest friends. At her best, Sophie is a sweet, caring optimist with a fiery passion for just about anything she puts her heart into. At her worst, however, she is cynical, sarcastic, and overly critical of others, and even more so herself. Her sense of perfectionism was beaten into her at a young age, and at times, she hates herself for what she is or isn’t. She also tends to have issues of jealousy, and can’t usually get close to someone because she’s afraid of them learning who ‘she really is’. She’s mostly afraid that her negative aspects make up who she really is, and that she’s just hiding behind who she wants to be. In regards to her narcolepsy, Sophie tries her best to act like it doesn't effect her, or even exist. That's how she handles most of her problems: she subconsciously believes that if it's ignored enough, it will eventually just go away. Quirks: Sophie is what she likes to call a 'sock enthusiast'. She enjoys having all sort of crazy foot-gloves, and used to collect them before her room-mates started borrowing her clothes. Even so, she still retains a small collection, and wears them as often as possible. History: Sophie was born as a single child to an ambitious couple in Monterey, California. As her father was a business-man and was often out of town, she didn't get to ever see him much throughout her life. Her mother was a strict woman who wanted only the best for her little girl, even if that meant putting a bit of pressure on her. It was that mindset that eventually drove Sophie away, but as a young girl, it taught her to be persistant and to work hard. When Sophie entered kindergarden, she was also enrolled in a child's dance class, and truly started to excel in the art. For a while, it seemed possible for her to have potential in the area, but by her teens, it was apparent that she was growing too big to be a delicate ballerina. So, at the age of thirteen, she gave it up entirely, and instead joined the drama troupe at her middle school. She stayed in drama for the rest of her schooling, and by high school, interacted within her own little thespian clique of students who wanted to make it big in L.A. So, it's no surprise that a year after she graduated, she simply packed up and moved there, driven by dreams of grandeur. What she hadn't anticipated was all the partying her friends intended to do while in L.A. instead of pursuing the dream, so for about a year and a half, nothing was accomplished. Sophie found herself slipping into a world of late nights and little clothing, but she hadn't had it until one morning she woke up with a hangover and a tattoo. After that, she got her life in gear: even without a college diploma, she still got a job as a clerk for a local bookstore, and started saving up to pay off her increasing debt and ultimately go to college. She started taking a non-prescription medication from Feral Labs to help ease her narcoleptic symptoms, and after they started working better than her prescriptions, she used them on a regular basis. The others in the group were unwilling to make the change that she had and pull their own, so Sophie decided that it was time to leave, and packed her bags. However, a few nights before she was prepared to go, she started experiencing some strange side-effects from her medicine...

The art of randomly sleeping...What is Narcolepsy? Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder caused by the brain's inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles normally. At various times throughout the day, people with narcolepsy experience fleeting urges to sleep. If the urge becomes overwhelming, individuals will fall asleep for periods lasting from a few seconds to several minutes. In rare cases, some people may remain asleep for an hour or longer. In addition to excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), three other major symptoms frequently characterize narcolepsy: cataplexy, or the sudden loss of voluntary muscle tone; vivid hallucinations during sleep onset or upon awakening; and brief episodes of total paralysis at the beginning or end of sleep. Narcolepsy is not definitively diagnosed in most patients until 10 to 15 years after the first symptoms appear. The cause of narcolepsy remains unknown. It is likely that narcolepsy involves multiple factors interacting to cause neurological dysfunction and sleep disturbances. Is there any treatment? There is no cure for narcolepsy. In 1999, after successful clinical trial results, the FDA approved a drug called modafinil for the treatment of EDS. Two classes of antidepressant drugs have proved effective in controlling cataplexy in many patients: tricyclics (including imipramine, desipramine, clomipramine, and protriptyline) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (including fluoxetine and sertraline). Drug therapy should be supplemented by behavioral strategies. For example, many people with narcolepsy take short, regularly scheduled naps at times when they tend to feel sleepiest. Improving the quality of nighttime sleep can combat EDS and help relieve persistent feelings of fatigue. Among the most important common-sense measures people with narcolepsy can take to enhance sleep quality are actions such as maintaining a regular sleep schedule, and avoiding alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages before bedtime. On July 17, 2002, the FDA approved Xyrem (sodium oxybate or gamma hydroxybutyrate, also known as GHB) for treating people with narcolepsy who experience episodes of cataplexy. Due to safety concerns associated with the use of this drug, the distribution of Xyrem is tightly restricted. What is the prognosis? None of the currently available medications enables people with narcolepsy to consistently maintain a fully normal state of alertness. But EDS and cataplexy, the most disabling symptoms of the disorder, can be controlled in most patients with drug treatment. Often the treatment regimen is modified as symptoms change. Whatever the age of onset, patients find that the symptoms tend to get worse over the two to three decades after the first symptoms appear. Many older patients find that some daytime symptoms decrease in severity after age 60. Information taken from NINDS.

Because I definitely get so much accomplished...Page 2 - Intro - After Sophie changes for the first time, she calls Feral Labs and is transported to the Island. Page 2 - Cafe - Gaius explains the truth of the Island to Sophie, only for her to disregard it all for fangirling on Marshall for his work on Sno Cone. However, Marshall storms off angry, and Sophie can't help but think it's her fault. Page 2 - Cafe - Sophie goes back to the cafe to apologize, but instead of finding Gaius or Marshall, she encounters a changing Jordan. After helping him through the change, Jordan gives her a Pro-Island speech, and she almost believes it. Page 2 - Entertainment Room - Sophie encounters Richard working on his newsletter, and he explains the nastier points of the Island to her. Page 3 - Beach - Sophie goes to the beach for the first time, only to realize that it's rather useless to go there without proper equipment. She runs into Nita, who explains some more details of the Island to her. Page 3 - Cafe - After the visit with Nita at the beach, Sophie runs into Jordan, and help him decorate for Kim's surprise birthday party. Page 3 - Cafe - After her nightmare, Sophie goes to the cafeteria and meets a sobbing Newt, doing her best to comfort him. Page 3 - Duplex 59 - Sophie finally gets the courage to confront and apologize to Marshall, who seems rather apologetic himself. She then learns about the theater and starts to get ideas for it. Page 3 - Construction Site - Sophie calls Gaius in the hopes of helping at the Construction Site, but the only thing she finds there is a new change! Page 3 - Cafeteria - Finally getting used to her new self, Sophie goes to the cafeteria, where she has hard news to break for the Island's resident newbie, Topher. Page 3 - Beach - Sophie heads out to the beach for some fun in the sun, only to be zapped after a short conversation with Liamh. Page 3 - April Fool's Incident! Sophie has been buzzed, and now has a cattle tag in her ear! Page 3-4 - Duplex 10 - Topher comes to apologize about the fact that he hadn't overturned the labs yet, but Sophie is still unaware of the 'time change'. Page 4 - River - Pending

So, it's like some chihuahua thing...right?The Fennec is a small fox found in the Sahara Desert of North Africa (excluding the coast) which has distinctive oversized ears. Although some authorities classify this as the only species of the genus Fennecus, it is shown here in the genus Vulpes. Its name is derived from the Arabic word for "fox". Description The Fennec is the smallest canid, only weighing up to 3.3 Lb (1.5 kg). The fox is 7.9 in (20 cm) tall at the shoulder, with a body length of up to 15.7 in (40 cm). The tail is an additional 9.8 in (25 cm) or so, and the ears can be 5.9 in (15 cm) long. The animals are often a sandy color to blend in with their desert surroundings. Its ears, which are the largest in the canid family, serve to help dissipate heat and hunt at night. The coat can repel sunlight during the day and conserve heat at night. The soles of the feet are protected from the hot sand by thick fur. Habits The Fennec is nocturnal. During the night, it will hunt for rodents, insects (such as locusts), lizards, and birds and only bird eggs. It also eats a small lizard known as a sandfish. The Fennec gets most of its water from food, but will sometimes eat berries and leaves as an additional source of water. Fennecs live in large dens (extending up to 32.8 ft or 10 meters), often with several foxes. Reproduction In the spring, after about 52 days of gestation, a female fennec will give birth to a litter of 2-5 young. The young will rely on their mother's milk for about a month. When the litter of young are born the female won't let the male in the den until they become older. Population The fennec is rare and is not often seen. It is often hunted by humans, even though the fox does not cause any harm to human interests. Domestication The fennec is classified under CITES as an Appendix II species (here): "species not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival (CITES website)." In the United States there is a relatively established community of Fennec owners and breeders. The fennec is considered the only species of fox which can properly be kept as a pet. Although they cannot be considered completely domesticated, they can be kept in a domestic setting similar to dogs or cats, though several factors make it important to ensure that they do not escape. Their speed and agility (they can jump four times their own body length) combined with their natural chase instinct creates the risk of a fennec slipping its harness or collar. Further, since they are adept diggers (they can dig up to twenty feet a night in their natural environment), outdoor pens and fences must be extended many feet below ground. Escaped fennec foxes are extremely difficult to recapture. Pet fennecs, being the most social among foxes, are usually very friendly towards strangers and other household pets. However, they are extremely active, and need outlets for their energy; they may exhaust other household pets with their playfulness. The vast majority of their diet in the wild consists of meat and protein sources like insects. Any diet in a domestic setting should reflect this. Food sources commonly used include (but are not limited to) high quality meat-rich dog food, wild canine food brands, cat food, raw meats, insects, mealworms, custom dietary mixtures, or any combination thereof.
