If you know me, then you know most of the time, I chose Kratos out of my love, admiration, and fangirlism. However, it's the truth that I felt sad about killing off Zelos. But when I thought about the story...

Kratos should have died.

YES, I am his ultimate fangirl and I admit to that.

I killed Zelos, and was like, "Nooo!". Mainly out of spite, because I lost my other swordfighter. And then I got Kratos, and I got over it.

I discovered before I got to the scene how to choose which swordfighter that you want by the end of the game. I chose Kratos because I like him better then Zelos, but after I fought Zelos, i felt kinda sad that he was gone. Something felt like it was missing for the rest of the game. crying

It's not that I don't like Zelos, I just love Kratos! ...but if you noticed, if you do kill him off, he gets no remembrance in the ending, no one tells the king that "hey you know, your chosen is dead" which is rather annoying. Sheena could have made a report, and then the king decides to use her as an emisarry, you know...

Oh, and shame on me. I spelled emisarry wrong. That proves to you that even your adorable co-captain is human.

((I expect to get flamed. Seriously flamed. BUT I am not comparing ToS to any other game, I'm saying Suikoden is the game that opened my eyes to this situation. Read on for another one of my rants.))

After playing Suikoden 1, I feel about Kratos the same way I feel about my beloved Gremio... and Teo. Hell, FOUR, YES I SAID FOUR - four people I actually liked, DIED to save your character (you play as the hero). His secret admirer, his guardian, his father, and his best friend. AND their souls get EATEN. You get stuck in serious situations in Suiko1, but seeing his friends want him to succeed so much and they ACTUALLY DIE made me feel that Symphonia was a little... I dunno, like they didn't take the theme of death seriously.

Zelos' death was underappriciated, if you take that route. A few skits and not even a scene in the ending? BAH. "So he's dead. Let's just go on and forget that this traitor existed." Well, a funeral or something would have made me feel so much better. Not that I hate Zelos, I just wanted a little bit of closure there.

In Suiko1, you can't chose if your favorite characters die or not. My favorite character bit the dust for the person he cared about most, the hero, and I have a strange suspicion that all of my favorite characters are the ones that die. The only one is Kratos. Yuan rushing in there to save him like that... while I was appriciative and didn't want Kratos to die, it would have been more meaningful of the story IF Kratos had died. That was the final proof to me that the writers of the story were going TOO lighthearted. I would have still loved Kratos. I still loved Gremio. My favorite character in VII was Aeris. People who sacrifice themselves for someone else tend to mean a lot to me. If Kratos had died, he could have finally been with Anna again, and not had to go into Dherris Kharlan, causing god I don't know how many horrible fanfics we can live without. I would have chosen Zelos to be in the group if Kratos would have been killed off, because then the game would have taken a much more beautiful route. Plus I would have respected Kratos a lot more, because guess what? He's IMMORTAL. He's not going to die! THAT WAS HIS ONLY SHOT. Now he's going to be torn from Anna for an eternity. Kratos fans, do you really want that? Sure as we all love him, we want to be alone for eternity? Not fair to him. Or to Anna's soul...

I rest my case... *sigh*

Hell, I don't really like admitting it to myself. I love Symphonia and both worlds the game takes place in. I just noticed a tad bit of flaws in the minds of the developers.
