For the sake of being random and to save myself from boredom, I would like to explain why the sky is blue. And it IS NOT because it reflects the water. Actually, the water is blue only because it reflects the sky, and if you've ever seen the ocean on a cloudy day (or even not so cloudy, depending on which ocean and where you are on it), it isn't blue. And this automatically discounts that theory.
The sky is blue because molecules in the atmosphere scatter blue light more than any other color. Also, the sky turns red (and other colors) at sunset because blue light is being scattered away from us, since the Earth is a sphere.
So... correct me if I'm wrong or add to it, please!

small correction- the earth is oblate. This means that it's slightly flatter at the poles and slightly fatter at the equator.

If you want to know what makes the sky blue, it's ozone, another chemical construct of oxygen, that is not only poisonous, it is blue, and smells faintly of geraniums.
As for water, scientists have in fact confirmed that water IS slightly blue. Source: QI Series One, a show on British Television about interesting facts.
Oh, and just in case you want to know, the Universe is beige.

My friend asked me during Greek Mythology class last year: "What if the sky is green and the grass is purple but we're all just colorblind?"
And then my teacher looked at us funny. ;_;

I question your sources on that last statement It was conducted by an American researcher of the Universe who added up the light emitting from all galaxies in the Universe, and using the Dulux paint range as standard, they confirmed it was in fact beige.

-stares- Wow... the sky is just... there... Though, now when someone says.. "look how wonderful the sky looks today", I can tell them "Yes, but do you realize why the sky looks like that??". Yes, it will be a party of annoyance!! ><

The ocean is blue because it absorbs mostly all light except blue. And layer upon layer of slightly blue water has to have an effect. The sky is blue, because, as that guy mentioned earlier, of the gas particles and such. It's also 'cause you're peering out at the lightless galaxy millions of miles away. And then the sun makes it lighter...? Dunno. I just find random info and spurt it out.

Beige is indeed boring, but what if it were black or white? That, would truly be boring. Also, human color justification is wrong. We are limited to rods and cones, and the whole world, including the universe, may be very different.... Off topic: Aw... I finished my granola bar.

Septomor In actuallity, there isn't technicly a sky, scince there universe is what we actually see Actually we see the ozone. You don't see the "universe", as you put it, until you go outside of the ionosphere.

Sorry but human justification of colours is not wrong. As we can only the see world with rods and cones, that is what exists in a human-relevent world.
