She was failing. Miserably. She had come here to gather allies so that she could go back home and free her family from the hateful domination of Dunn. But what had she accomplished since getting here? She had befriended a wolf that didn't seem to understand much of war and its aspects.

Eris sighed. What was she going to do with herself? She hated this feeling, this feeling of failure. It broke her heart and stabbed her soul straight through. She had to work harder. There was no excuse for her to fail. Raghnall had taught her well, and she wouldn't let him down. No, she'd avenge his spirit and bring peace back to her home.

Determined now more than ever, she lifted herself up from the ground and went off in a random direction. From now on, she decided, it would be strict recruiting.

Her paws made a rhythmic pattern on the ground as she walked, her tail swishing from side to side and her nose twitching. She wouldn't let her family down, she wouldn't disappointed Raghnall. She would fulfill her destiny...

There was no change in the boy that had been broken many times over. He stretched, helplessly on free soil, not caring if he withered and died right there. His eyes were listless and his teeth clung to dirt and grime like no other. He was quiet, very quiet and unnaturally still. Though he breathed like the wolves did, he bore no signs of life.

It would seem as if he'd be better off dead.

With the blood of his father rippling through his veins, he grew hatred for the b*****d man. With the knowledge of his sister’s hatred, he grew saddened by the pair. He was lonesome, even with Kirra, and no matter how many times he tried not to whine and receive pity--it was all he wanted. He fed off that form of compassion, off the hatred even he received.

Talamar knew his duties though, even if he acted out like a demon child willing to risk his life for nothing. To Kirra and to himself, he knew what must be done. If he were to prove his fathers genes wrong, he would live longer then Catalyst would have expected. Longer then anyone, even himself, would have expected. His body quivered against the soil, and wearily he tried to recoil into a ball, but no luck. His gut clenched, and his throat ached, and all this pain was too much to bear.

So, he would feed his sorrow now. Lifting onto heavy paws, the male sighed and made his first attempt in a month to get food on his own; to fulfill his thirst and warm his gullet.

He moved, with a hungry gleam in his eyes, and made way to a river, where he would drink, and drink to his hearts content. Today, he'd meet no wolves, like every other day, and today, when day met night--he'd die again.

Unlike the dead wolf of Talamar, Eris was very much alive. She had to be. If she felt herself dead already, well, then there would be no point trying to gather forces to fight against Dunn. As much as she hated to admit it, Dunn was a clever wolf. He could spot weakness and manipulate it into something far worse than death.

Moving silently, she decided to kill two birds with one stone. It had been a long time since she'd ever really been in training, and so she decided to hone her skills that Raghnall had taught her. As she went along, she practiced tracking. She'd need it, if she was to ever infiltrate Dunn's lands. He had spies everywhere, and she had to be aware of every single one.

But now.. what to track? Moving along, her nose twitching, she caught the scent of something that would perhaps aid her even more than tracking down anything else she could find. It was another wolf. It smelt strange, and she decided to investigate. Maybe it could be another warrior for her cause.

Changing directions, the brightly colored wolf flicked her tail and followed the scent. It brought her to a river. No one was there. Ears flicking, she tested the air again and listened for any movement.

Her head swiveled, and she spotted a rather skinny wolf drinking from the river. She grunted, blowing out through her nose. A wolf like that certainly would be more of a burden than help to her cause. She decided to leave him alone. But as she stood there, she suddenly realized her itching thirst.

Lowering her head, she lapped up the cool water, the smooth liquid healing her parched throat. She ignored the other wolf.

Talamar, in his life as a whole, had learned more then anything to keep aware of your surroundings. And even so, through the hardship that he was living through at this very moment; he still forgot to hone in on his skills.

His eyes shut, contently as water slipped down his throat. It felt all too overwhelming, and with ever gulp he took; he wished he bore hands of a human and a pot--he'd drink quicker that way.

Nonetheless, he continued his gorge, filling every inch of thirst he'd ever felt, it seemed, in his entire being. His tail was even moving slightly, which was a sign of ease for the male. Yet, there was something queer about the water; maybe a fish swam by his nose, and he felt its eyes on him. Fish were ugly things, and with those weird ogling vision goggles that never once blinked, he'd sure freak out any moment. But this sensation wasn't coming from the water now, but from his side.

Flicking to alert mode, the adult male jerked his head to the right and was hastily forced to squint. What stood only a few feet from him was the sun.

But why would it be down on earth? It must be a sign; he was to be brought to heaven now. It was god and his almighty powers telling the sun to burn him into ashes and blow his soul to the gates of gold. Yes, that was it-- an angel star.

Talamar yelped, however, for he was sure he wasn't ready for heaven. He had so much to do, so much to live for. His body felt paralyzed, though he made no gesture to fall over in terror. His eyes, silver and soulless, watched quietly as the other licked the earthly water. Was liquid to a star?

For a while, the other ignored him, and for that same while Talamar began to slowly believe this wasn't his calling, but he only fell witness to a star taking a pit stop. Maybe he was damned to Hell, and this was all a big taunt. With drips of watch falling from his chin, Talamar spoke up, a gruff voice emitting to the angel female.

'So; what are you going to take me now or do I have to beg or—I don’t know how these things work…'

Eris continued to quench her thirst, the cool waters of the river calming her down. Walks often got her blood flowing and often that led to her feeling rather high and very strange. She didn't understand it, though she supposed it came from her sort of destiny. She was meant for adrenaline and rush, those sorts of feelings. If she didn't learn them now, she'd never be able to defeat Dunn.

At the sound of the yelp, her blood shot all around her body as her head perked up immediately. Had her presence really come as that much of a surprise to the other wolf? Making a face, she flicked her tail angrily and huffed. Such strange wolves in these woods.

Then he spoke nonsense, talking about her taking him and him not knowing how this all worked. She tilted her head, really not understanding what in the blue hell he was talking about.

"Excuse me?" she spoke, her beady black eyes staring him down. It wasn't meant for intimidation or some such thing, it was just her way. She wasn't allowed to show any fear, and she was proud that she wasn't fearful a lot of the times.

"I'm not taking you anywhere. I think you've got me confused with someone else, if you were waiting for someone to take you away." Sheesh, such a crazy wolf this was. They all seemed crazy around her. How long until she began going crazy herself? Shaking her head, she assured herself silently that there was no way she would allow herself to become crazy like that.

Never, never.

Talamar was at a loss. Had he truly mistaken her? He would try this again.

'Aren't you an angel? Sent from heaven? Or maybe the--' he gulped, heavily, just darn near choking from worry. 'The demons who've come to drag me down into the fiery pits? Tell me good lady, tell me!' His own eyes watched, though baring little fear themselves.

He was, of course, intimidated by her gaze. They were black for god sake. No pupil, no noting. Just blackness, much like the soulless eyes that he had, only--darker.

He dug his nails into the earth, pulling up on his fore limbs and sniffing. 'Wait....you smell like a wolf. And why so hyped up on adrenalin?' His nose twitched, eyes calculating quietly.

So, he made a mistake. Everyone does. At least he could play it off, most people couldn't.

'Ah, I'm sorry....you know how age sometimes gets to you, as well as being kept in the darkness for a while....Bright wolves like yourself become idols of heavens! Haven't you ever experienced it before?' A light chuckle escaped his frazzled throat, as he paused, wearily checking his surroundings; maybe he hadn't missed the scent, just the target.

Eris gave the other wolf a funny look. What a strange fellow.

"An angel?" she balked, almost laughing. As he mentioned demons, her eyes narrowed at him. She preferred the angel theory better. There was no way she was to be considered a demon. That title belonged to fiends like Dunn.

"I'll say, I'm nothing of the sort. I'm a regular wolf, just as yourself." Okay, she sort of lied on that one. He wasn't such a regular wolf. At least, his mind wasn't sound, that was for sure. As he mentioned that she smelt like a wolf, she nodded her head and chuckled slightly. "Well of course I'm a wolf. Why would I be anything else? You know you sound rather ridiculous."

As he babbled about age and some other crap, she rolled her eyes. Although he was trying to play it off, she had caught his mistake in the first place and there was no changing it now.

"Experienced it? I should say not. I feel I rather like to keep my mind on a sound level, thankyouverymuch," she huffed, really thinking that this wolf was crazy. First he thinks her an angel, then a demon, and now he tries to play it off by saying age was getting to him? What a lie. He may have looked a little old due to his poor condition, but she could tell that he wasn't so old. But she said nothing. She wasn't that rude.

"Well I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I'm just a normal wolf. I'm not taking you anywhere."

Talamar fought back a sigh. She was not easily fooled, so it seemed.

Furrowing his brow, he scoffed at her comment--he was the ridiculous one? 'Well you could sure fool anyone with that bright pelt of yours. I thought you were a god sent.' Of course, given the fact that he was perpetually insane, it still was a standing argument.

'The sun isn't as bright as you girly, but nonetheless...you do look normal now, in the right light.' He smiled. It wasn't much of a compliment.

Trying, desperately, to coil up his tail, Talamar spoke again, gesturing towards her with a resound tilt of the nose. 'What's your name? I've never seen anyone like you around here before. Are you new?'

Eris narrowed her eyes at the other. What nerve he had, talking to her like that! With his condition, she was surprised he had any guts at all. It looked like they were all missing, from where she was standing. Such a skinny thing... a puppy could break him in half. She pulled her lips back in a silent snarl.

"Maybe I am," she hissed, her tail lashing from side to side. She hadn't done anything particularly wrong to him, and yet this is how he treats her! She was surprised he had lasted this long, with his attitude and all. It certainly didn't appear like he was well taken care of or like he had a family.

As he compared her to the sun, she calmed down a bit. At least he had some bit of sense. She was supposed to look like the sun, it had said so in the Prophecy. Her pelt being as the sun was a symbol of her journey, her destiny to chase away the darkness from her homeland and to bring back light into the lives of her family.

She scoffed. "Wouldn't you like to know? Well, it's Eris if you care any. And I'm relatively new. It just depends on how you look at it."

Talamar was, undeniably, humored by the females snarl. He had made no attempts at being out of place, and yet it always seemed that was the case. He shrugged it off, consciously, and bypassed all other comments she had made.

'No worries, I do care Eris.' He nodded, shutting both eyes for a brief moment, before casually flicking her a smile and wagging his tail. He hadn't had this much fun bothering another wolf in; well ever! This possibly was the first wolf he'd ever met outside of his pack lands, and outside of his family. Or so he could remember, anyways.

'I'm Talamar, and I'm relatively not new to the woods. Depends on how you look at it.' His back arched slightly, ears canting forwards and head tilting. Was she just being hostile, or sarcastic?

His long fur shook slightly as he glanced around. Maybe today he wouldn't have to fend for himself and fetch his own food. He listened, trying to find that squeak of hunger that came from a famished belly--no luck.

So he'd approach her with the question, if not indirectly state it. 'I see you've taken notice to my, some would say, morbid form. Well, I haven't eaten anything in a long while. My mate is back near my fathers pack lands, and I've been wandering on my own, just for the utter fact that I needed to be alone to think for a while. You though, you look mighty well--what do you suggest I do about my hunger?' He craned his neck slightly, still listening.

'Are you at all hungry, Eris?'

This wolf bothered her, that much was for certain. She didn't like the way he laughed everything off and just tried to play everything so cooly. He was too casual, especially when he was in that condition. She was amazed his attitude hadn't gotten him eaten yet.

"Oh, do you?" she asked, her tone seeming genuinely interested. Although, the truth of the matter was that she wanted nothing more to do with him. All she wanted was to get out of here and away from him. She had better things to do than just sit here at the river and chit chat with him.

Her tail flicked impatiently as he seemed to mock her with his words. Nevertheless, she controlled herself this time and kept her face relatively passive.

"Well, Talamar," she began, after listening to him talk about his morbid form and whatever else. "I suggest you eat." What a stupid question. "And I should say I'm not hungry. I've eaten already."

Lesson learned: Upon meeting your very first wolf, do not frighten.

Talamar sighed, pulling away slightly like an undecided omega, choosing whether or not to trust this wolf. It wasn't that he was afraid, as much as it was he was hurt. This wolf had already made up her mind of him, and there was no changing that.

So again, Talamar shrugged and moved back some more, limbs buckling. 'Well, Eris, it was nice meeting you...hopefully we--' Maybe they shouldn't meet again. Yes, maybe they shouldn't.

Flicking his tail up, he spun on his heels and barked a goodbye to the female, body quivering all over.

Lesson learned: Embarrassment hurts.
