Historical curiosity. I wanted to mention a Kyoto library in an RK fic, but am not certain if libraries even existed yet then.

Libraries in themselves were in existance, but for there being one in Kyoto... eh... idk... ^ ^; Individual people, rich ones, might have had one but as far as a public library like the ones we see today... probably not. The general populace probably wasn't literate, considering the time and that the Feudal System had just started coming to an end.

There was one in Rurouni Kenshin, I think where Kenshin and Aoshi fought. In real life, there probably was, but it might have been like one that kept records and history... that kind of thing.
