Meeki smiled as she took in a breath of fresh air. It was a beautiful morning and she slept wonderfully the night before. She dreamt of Indawo, racing him along all sorts of settings. At one point in the dream, they even raced upon a road of clouds, which was completely impossible but enjoyable nonetheless. Even in her dreams she had such fun with the stallion.
She was trying to find the grumpily cute creature now. She felt so foolish, she hadn't asked where he lived or where he might be so she decided to retrace her steps back to where she left him the night before. Perhaps he would be nearby that area. If not, she would have quite a search ahead of her.

Like many nomadic Soquilis, Indawo tended to relocate from place to place in the course of his wanderings, but for the most part he tried to make it back to the same clearing in the woods when it was time for him to sleep. However, usually he had less on his mind than he had the previous evening. After Meeki had left, Indawo had spent a long time in the same place beside the pond, staring into the water and thinking. Thinking about how the day had progressed, and how he had enjoyed himself...in the company of another.
Mulling over the atypicality of the situation, Indawo had completely lost track of time and fallen asleep where he sat after long hours of thought; he still lay there now, head resting against his side as he slept and a peaceful expression on his face.

Meeki walked into the little clearing and stopped. Her heart skipped a beat as she spotted him laying nearby. He hadn't left the area. Did that mean something? Perhaps he had simply been tired but she would like to think he was waiting for her. Of course, even if that was the case, it wouldn't be something he'd ever admit to. She watched him sleep for a few moments. He really was a handsome stallion. Though he was smaller than the other stallions, his body was well toned and seemed to be in great shape. He looked more fit than the larger stallions, that's for sure!
Once again she found herself admiring his wings. They were so strange. Though she had seen transluscent wings before, nothing were like his. She could see why he might not like them on one hand, but on the other, it frustrated her that he didn't see how unique and wonderful his wings really were.
Quietly she walked over to the pond. She thought about taking some water and spitting it on him to wake him up but decided against it. Some creatures did not like waking up in such a way. She didn't want to start the day off badly. Instead she decided to sneak off and gather some apples for them.
Several trips and a half dozen apples later, she snorted loudly in an attempt to wake her new friend up.

As he slept, Indawo's nose twitched slightly; the sort of twitching that usually indicated an itch or a bug or some other sort of distraction. At the moment, though, it was because he had started to drift back into consciousness. While some Soquili always woke up perky and energetic, Indawo invariably woke up a bit grouchy if not downright hostile, and his muzzle seemed to have gotten into the habit of adopting a frown even before he was awake.
However, the normal process of awakening was decidedly interrupted when seemingly out of nowhere came a loud snort. Feeling as though his mane was standing on end, Indawo managed to uncurl himself and bounce to his feet, eyes narrowed and feet firmly planted to deal with the threat...
Or Meeki.
For a moment, Indawo simply stood and stared blankly, trying to figure out what the significance of Meeki standing beside a pile of apples was. His body might have been able to move rapidly, but his brain was decidedly a few steps behind and it took a few seconds before it clicked.
"Good grief Meeki, you could warn a guy before waking him up like that!" Shifting his stance to one distinctly less hostile, Indawo found himself looking away from her as unexpected heat flooded his cheeks. If he didn't know better, he'd say he was blushing, except that he never blushed, damnit! "Er...rather, good morning." Bad greeting was putting it mildly.

"Well, it's a good thing I didn't spray you with water then!," Meeki scolded playfully. "I almost did then I realized you might have ME for breakfast instead of apples!"
She turned and kicked an apple as gently as was possible over towards the stallion before turning and taking a bite out of one nearby her. Was it silly that she found his grumpiness to be entirely adorable? Of course, she'd never let HIM know that or else he'd strive to change it. He didn't seem to take such compliments very well.
"How would you like me to wake you up in the future," she asked curiously. "I could take a running leap and bounce off your back. I could place a big beehive next to your head. The alternatives to snorting are limitless!" She loved teasing him. She liked how he made her feel hyper and.. happy.

Indawo managed to regain his composure enough to turn back to face Meeki, giving her an utterly disbelieving look as she blithely listed some of the worst ways of waking someone up that he'd ever heard. He might not be a pleasant companion first thing in the morning, but waking him up with bees was NOT going to make him any more cheerful!
If he hadn't known she was joking, he would have been completely annoyed. As it was, he was merely amused. Sort of. Not that he'd show it, because the last thing she needed was more provocation!
So he simply leaned over and crunched into the apple, relishing the crispness and the taste. Nothing quite like fresh-picked apples, and that was what this had to be. Hungry as he was, it only took a few bites for him to have completely devoured the fruit.
Licking at his lips following the apple, he stood there for a moment eyeing Meeki. She HAD to be teasing him about him having her for breakfast, but even so that was a cruel comment, one that made him feel more than a little guilty about his hostile greeting. That guiltiness made him a little gruffer than he normally would have been.
"If you must wake me up, then you should just give some warning." How that would work when he was sleeping, he didn't know. "But trying to leap on me will probably backfire; had you tried THAT I might have kicked you into the pond out of reflex. So you should..." Huh. What SHOULD she do?

Meeki finished her own apple before replying to his comment. "I don't know. It almost sounds like fun to be kicked into a pond after taking a running leap and jumping on you. Might hurt for a few days afterwards, though." She wasn't even sure if she was serious or joking. It was an insane thought but there did seem to be a bit of fun to it.
She turned and picked up another apple gently with her teeth and walked over and dropped it before him, taking the opportunity to get close to him. "I could always just lick you awake," she whispered, trying her best to make an evil face before turning back to the quickly depleting apple pile.
"No beehive. No bouncing," she finally agreed before taking a bite out of a fresh apple, attempting to ignore the embarassment at the comment she let slip out a moment before. She wasn't sure what came over her when she was around Indawo. "I guess I can just find something new to wake you up with every day. Eventually, I'd find the right one."

Now, the question was whether or not Meeki was referring to herself or Indawo in that first comment; he personally felt she had to be including him at least a little, because having someone dump their full weight on you when you weren't expecting it ought to result in at least a few bruises. Besides, even reflexively he didn't kick THAT hard; or so he thought. He'd never really thought about it before, come to think of it. But then, Meeki was a little thing, perhaps he could hurt her without thinking about it. Not a nice thought, to be sure.
Grouching mentally at himself for thinking too much, Indawo was just lowering his head to take a bite of the newly dropped apple when her whispered words caused him to almost fall over, so shocked was he at the very idea. He didn't fall over, of course, but once again the damned heat was back in his face. To make matters worse, even as he was trying to wipe the thought from his mind he was imaging what that would be like to wake up to...and blushing even more profusely as he stared at the apple with an intensity that could very well have caused said apple to explode.
Not daring to look at Meeki or even raise his head at all, Indawo simply nodded his head brusquely as she agreed NOT to do the earlier mentioned things. Damn, what was wrong with him today? He was acting ridiculous. "Well, just don't do anything rash." Rash? What the hell did he mean by that?
Deciding that for now silence was the best plan of action, he promptly bit into the apple with such force that the other half went flying a few feet, landing with a light splash in the pond. No, this was not a good way to start off the morning!

Meeki wondered what rash implied. She and Indawo seemed on different wavelengths and something she considered to be minor might be too much for him and vice versa. She'd just have to be really careful with him until she learned what he liked or disliked more.
"I shall try not to be rash," she agreed, and hoped she could honor such an agreement. "Well, it's good that you're finally awake at least. Though I'm sure someone had to have worried about you being out here all night..," she trailed off. She felt guilty that he had stayed in such a lonely place for the evening. She should have invited him back to where her two-legger stayed. Why did she not think of such things when they mattered?

Indawo was not amused. Far from it, actually, as the thought floating about in his mind were distinctly along the route of cranky. Though not all of them were hostile...
As a matter of fact, he was embarrassed. Character traits he'd developed over the years were accepted as a matter of course; traits like a loathing of mornings, natural defensiveness, and a suspicious streak a mile wide. He'd never bothered to try and alter his habits, suiting his lone lifestyle as he did; even on the rare occassions he made it back to the teepee his manners tended towards brusque. But then, herdmates weren't something to worry about, and he never had.
This was different. Meeki might have spent a (comparably) long time around him, but in spite of that she hadn't really seen this side of his character. Or had she?
No, she must have seen it at least once; he had been far from amenable to company the first time he'd met her. But that didn't mean he liked the idea of snapping at her!
That in mind, he bit back the somewhat sharp remark her innocent question provoked. Why would anyone worry about him when he'd done his best to distance himself from the population at large? But even though he'd explained that to Meeki, he didn't think that the concept had sunk in. Not truly. So he was a bit more reserved when he finally answered, unsure of where the question had come from as he was.
"I can't say I've ever thought about it. I've lived on my own since I was barely more than a foal, and never thought much about company, so no one's ever really had the chance to worry about me." And that was the truth; months had passed since he'd last seen even his herd. They knew him better than most, and that knowledge had prevented any potential for worrying.
He'd noted the trailing off, but figured that she thought she might be offending him with her words. Hardly the case, to be honest; the complete opposite, if he wanted to be truthful. So he was quick to offer a clarification on the heels of his explanation. "And don't worry about it, Meeki; it's just how my life is. It doesn't bother me not to be worried about, so don't concern yourself on my behalf."
The smile that accompanied that statement was sincere but awkward and a hint on the wry side; he wasn't used to apologizing or assuaging worries, so this was new to him.
