I just got a Rider Tarot Deck for Christmas, but I've never used a tarot card deck before. I heard from some people that they got bad luck and stuff from using a tarot card deck, but my step sister uses one alright.
I read that it's non-traditional to do your own readings, but I'd probably be the only one to do my own reading around here. (Most everyone else is either really religious and doesn't want to touch a tarot card deck, or they just aren't interested anyway.)
Is it possible that my readings might get messed up if I do my own? Does anybody in the guild do their own readings too?
I am thankful for any sort of advice.

Hey great! Does this mean you will start doing readings for the guild? lol I'm kidding xd
The only problem when we do readings for ourselves is that Our Ego, or Judgemental self might put their 2 cents in when we don't realize it. If we can do a reading with no emotions and go strictly on gut instincts, as we would if reading a complete stranger, it would be more accurate.
...but no I don't do my own readings.
There isn't anything wrong with using a Tarot Deck. Cards are just a tool used to help us focus and make the necessary connections needed for readings. Most items used for divination got their negative stigma from when they were considered items of sorcery and witchcraft.
If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, just explain that the cards do nothing more than tell a story. Sometimes it just happens to matches the life of the person in front of us.
