A dark paw smashed a bug against the ground as the hyena female blew her greenish/gray mane out of her eyes and frowned. There was something about how sunny it was that irritated the little female, that made her not want to be up. Yet her mother always woke her up and threw her around to go and play.

Abayomi hadn't helped her either, he'd made her go out to hunt with him earlier that day but she was still a pup and hadn't gotten anything aside from the half dead little antelope baby he'd brought her to practice on. She wasn't quite sure HOW Aba had pulled it off, but she didn't question anything about him anymore, he just wasn't normal after all.

"Damn... why can't I just... leave?" Kino growled out angrilly, the little pup wanted to go and find her father, the only normal one in her family she assumed. There had to be a reason she was so much meaner than both of her pansy siblings that had inherited traits from their mother.

Stomps boomed and vibrated through the earth as dark red hyena girl marched around, trampling everything she could get her paws on. A sea of squished and squashed grass was behind her, as well as a some clawed trees.

Ohhh, Nyo was in a very bad mood. She spat at the ground and glared at the sky. It was a beautiful day, and it was taunting her. The sun was oh too bright, mocking her deep, dark, loneliness. The sky was clear, laughing at her clouded and hurting heart. The birds chirped, rubbing their happiness in the growling hyena cub's face. How Nyo wished she could get her claws on one of them, they were practically begging to be torn apart. Alas, they flew faster than Nyo's claws, so she would simply have to be content with tearing up grass.

Ears pricked forward and immedatly Kino scowled. Great... she wasn't alone.

"Do you mind?" Kino said, her deep voice filled with darkness and anger. "The last thing I need is some little upstart running around my family's lands and ripping up the grass the animals eat."

She was mean, but she knew evil when she saw it. At least she was lucky that the female was larger than she was, that gave Kino the advantage spirits forbid something happened. Though, with her mother and father, who were both quite large for hyenas thank you, were close by so she had no real worry about anything happening.

However, she didn't tolerate things destroying her lands like this. The grass was what brought her lunch in.

A grimace scorched Nyo's face. "Says who, ye little runt? What's stopping me from doing what I please? You? Pluh-ese, you couldn't hurt a squirrel." The lava pup snorted, really, who did this midget think she was talking to?

Nyo allowed herself a single thread of respect for the puny, black pup. She was tiny, but she could stand up for her own. That was admirable, at the very least. However, that moment of respect soon passed, and growling soon escaped from Nyo's throat. "It is never a good time to mess with me..."

Mteketezo'Nyota was a runt herself, although she was still bigger than the pup before her. "The weak, helpless runt of the family, soon to be dead." That's what her siblings had called Nyo. However, they had been dead wrong. She outlived her mother, who had been young and strong, until the famine Nyo was born in worn her down. She was an outstanding huntress, despite her age and size. She escaped slavery, the dungeon that her eldest brother had tricked her into. And now, she was living on her own, without a need for a family.

One thing was for sure, if this smart-mouth pup was going to mess with Nyo, she might not have a mouth at the end of the day.

An eyebrow raised slowly as Pukukino stood up on the boulder she'd found herself on and raised her hackles for a moment. So she was learning, she was still fairly young, it wasn't as if she'd stay like this forever and be unable to hunt. She would learn, it was her birth right to learn how to hunt.

"There's doing what you want and then there's stepping on toes. You obviously aren't smart enough to tell the difference between the two." Kino grumbled and flopped back down on her belly again in annoyance.

Rose eyes sparkled as she took in the violent little lava red and gold marked hyena before her, not really caring at all about her. Kino knew in her own way she was pretty, from her silky fur to her shimmering eyes, the female KNEW she was as gorgeous as her reflection told her, but she didn't flaunt it... yet.

"Why ARE you stomping around all by your lonesome anyway?" She asked as a passing thought.

Nyo barked her high-pitched, mocking, scorching laugh. "Step on toes? Whose toes?" Her tone was switched to genuine curiosity. "What pack lives on tis land?"

A deep stab of pang rippled through Nyo. She really wanted to meet some other hyenas, although, she thought with a glare, she hoped that they all weren't as prissy as this runt. Really, this spoiled little rat needed to learn her place in life. A week without her mommy's protection would do her some good. Nyo nearly laughed aloud at that thought. A week without her family and she'd be dead. Nyo was willing to stake her life that this sorry excuse for a hyena couldn't even hunt.

She stared at the black pup straight in the eye. "In answer to your question, although I doubt you care, the day is to nice," she snorted.

Rolling her rose colored eyes and then following with a complimentary roll of her small grey shoulders. The marking on her left shoulder almost shimmered thanks to how different it was.

"My pack is all around you, but you're too dumb to be able to smell them aren't you? All I have to do is bark once and you're kibble you great big lava beast." Kino spat, her eyes going from sultry to sharp as diamonds in a moment as she lifted her hackles higher and the corner of her muzzle followed.

"The day might be nice but you make it dank cousin of the fur." It was a saying she'd picked up from Abayomi and all of his ramblings. She wasn't sure where HE'D gotten it from, but Kino had decided to use it after a while. Not that Aba had minded, in fact he'd laughed the first time she uttered it.

Nyo sighed, fed up with this runt of a retard's tongue. "Foolish one, the question was WHO your pack was, not WHERE. Your family's stank is stronger than a week old carcess." She snorted.

Nyo's eyes sharpened at the threat. Slowly, she padded towards the black pup, seeming to grow in size with every step. Finally, she loomed in front of the pup, mane cascading down her face, teeth bared, eyes deadly. "As soon as you open your mouth, your tongue will be in my paw." She snarled. Her voice was threatening low, her whole face drawn taunt, and her eyes hardening with every passing second. In one quick movement, her claw was under the black pup's chin, not touching the throat, but dangerously close. "Want to try it?"

There wasn't even a moment of silence before Pukukino launched herself at the other and soared over her head to land on the other side. She was agile, she was tiny, and she was fast, so what if she couldn't hunt just yet. She would learn with time somehow, but this other.... she seemed like she'd gotten larger by magic.

Stoney rose eyes glared back at the other as she rested gently on her hind legs with her front paws off the ground slightly. The dark little female looked like a squirrel or some strange meerkat with the way she was, but she had learned that this was the quickest way to run.

"I can talk all I want. You were the one that bothered me when I was trying to get up my will to go and practice hunting again!" Kino spat out, her teeth glittered shock white, making it obvious that either she took REALLY good care of herself or she simply hadn't eaten much meat recently. A pieous growl of a belly cemented the latter as the truth seconds before Kino blushed so deeply that her black fur actually tinged for a moment.

Nyo raised her eyebrows, midly impressed. So, the little one knew how to use her legs. If somebody taught her to properly use her claws, the little pup just might make the cut as a huntress. Aqua eyes hardened when she saw the runt's stance. It was the posture of somebody ready to flee. Nyo nearly burst out laughing. No way this pup would make it as a huntress if all she was going to do was run!

The lava hyena's eyes hardened at the sound of a growling stomach. If the pup was hungry, let her run back to her mommy! However, a wave of pity washed over her as the pup blushed crimson. Nyo sighed, then called out, "If it's hunting you want, here is the wrong place. You hunt in tall grass, or under thick brush, somewhere where you can be concealed. Don't forget about the wind carrying your scent, either. If you want food, follow me." She rose up of her haunches, beckoning the pup foward, then padded off due south.

the look of pity in her eyes made the fur on Kino's neck and shoulders stand completely on end for a moment. She didnt like being pitied for not getting enough to eat thanks to her two older sisters, she didn't like being pitied for not having the coordination necisarry to catch prey herself.

"How exactly do you know so much?" Kino said, the edge of her muzzle slowly lifting up in anger as she stood up and followed the other cautiously. Of course she was curious, of course she wanted to see if this other hyena would be able to show her how to hunt.

However, there was another hidden agenda that Kino had. The further she got from her family, the more chances she had to slip off into the night and dissapear completely. And if this female wanted to take her somewhere, wanted to offer to teach her how to hunt in the long grass... well then there were even MORE possibilities for leaving.

Nyo rolled her eyes in slight irritation. "Can't this twerp just be happy that she was going to be taught how to hunt? No, she has to know how I know how to hunt." She grumbled under her breath. "The only way to get food is to hunt." Nyo's voice normally smooth, laughing voice was sharp, and cold. This pup needed to stay out of her personal space!

Slowing, only patches at a time, the grass started getting longer and taller, until finally, the long, wispy blades danced in Nyo's face. Her aqua eyes widened in a curious surprise. The last time Nyo was is this particular area, a few weeks ago, the grass completely buried her! She hadn't noticed herself growing...

Abruptly, the lava juvenile stopped dead in her tracks. A quiet growl of excitement escaped from her lips, no stronger than a loud vibration. The scent of an innocent rabbit drifted into her nostrils. "There is a rabbit ahead of us, a little to the left." Her eyes quickly scanned the area around her. "Its burrow is a few jumps length ahead of me. Show me what you know."

Nyo slunk back, then gently pushed the black pup a few steps foward. She couldn't teach her how to hunt without knowing what her young student already knew.

Kino didn't respond to Nyo's gibes at all, rather she simply followed behind the larger lava female silently and watched her every move. Grass rose above her head and Kino blinked faintly at the world around her suddenly went out of view.

"The grass is long here..." Kino said, not really sounding like her gruff self anymore. She sounded rather like the pup she was supposed to sound like, watching the grass raise over her head with wide eyes.

However, those same wide eyes snapped to attention at Nyo's words and she sharpened them to look in the direction that Nyo pointed. It only took her a few moments to roll her shoulders and start to silently move foreward. The scent of the young-ish rabbit caught in her black nose and Kino moved forward a little more.

Nothing made a noise save for Nyo's breathing behind her and the chewing noises she heard from the rabbit. In a split second she saw it and sprang at it, missing entirely and smacking her nose on a rock.

"Errrhurr." Nyo surpressed a barking laugh. She knew that the pup was completely inexperienced, but she couldn't help herself. She padded over to the black hyena, making a tut tut noise in her throat. "You need to leap faster, and smoother, not so rough. And look at where you're going, for pity's sake! Don't let yourself be seen, heard, and smelled, either. With your dark fur, perhaps it would be easier to hunt at night..."

She stared hard at the hyena, then widened her eyes as she realized that she was a complete idiot. "I'm Mteketezo'Nyota, but please call me Nyo." She mumbled gruffly. She wasn't one to make hang around others, and this being social thing was defintely new to her.

Instead of responding curtly like she wanted to, Kino swallowed her pride and nodded her head, her shaggy grayish green mane bobbing as she did so. She didn't like getting laughed at, but of course she had to admit that for what she'd just done she did deserve it. Maybe with this other female she'd be able to train to hunt more, would be able to learn more and more in her presence than she ever would have with her mother or siblings. Though her 'father' had taught her a little, that was why she hadn't reall made a sound.

Blinking as the other gave her name, Kino cleared her throat and nodded her head once more, "I'm Pukukino, just call me Kino... S'nice to meet you." She let the last part come out as a gruff grumble since her pride had been so hurt in the past few moments. The little hyena was trying to teach herself how to swallow her pride, but her hyena instincts didn't want to teach her THAT well.
