The day was dawning, slowly, and Storm was watching it - or rather staring at it. The golden mare had no interest in the light, or the pretty colors it created as it danced over her skin, rather she'd stuck herself in a phase. It wasn't often she did it, but when it happened she seemed to most mellow of creatures, unable to hurt a single fly. Perhaps innocent, maybe she simply looked strong, but whatever the case, there was little that wished to bother her as she watched a new day come.

Her mane flicked lightly in the gentle breeze that flowed over the landscape. It tickled her fetlocks as it went, rushing down into the valley where it swirled and churned, causing small golden leaves to take to the air. A small sigh escaped her half closed maw, her eyes following the progress of the wind. She felt a need to walk somewhere, anywhere, and be alone for a time. It didn't feel like the best of days, but it wasn't necessarily bad, either. Perhaps it was a time to have quiet, and think.

The sound of light footfalls announced that she had moved from her perch, venturing down over the grasslands of D'ob and towards her tree. In times where she felt a bit amiss, it was a good place of comfort, a memory of all that once was.

Velg'larn lay in the shade of his large golden tree. The new day dawning, Velg snorted as he watched the shadows retreat from the sun, he didn't care for the marvelous colors of the sunrise. To him they were just colors nothing more. Most would find such emotions in the sunrise and sunset while he saw nothing. The plum stallion stood and tossed his long elegant silver mane and began his walk in the daylight.

Velg’larn always preferred walking in the dark but one way or another he ended up walking. He wandered around D’ob slowly seeing many the nequus waking from their nighttime slumber, although few like the Aeri and Reya were awake a night. He passed them all by he stopped under a tree he didn’t like to be out in the open for too long. Velg’larn nosed some grass below by his red hooves and began to eat it. He was rather hungry seeing as he hadn’t eaten since dusk of the night before.

Velg’larn flicked his long red tipped tail; he was content to day. Nothing would bother him not today at least. A light breeze blew by him playing with his long silky hair. Velg’larn raised his head again finishing and then continued he wanderings around D’ob.

Storm was invaribly perplexed. It wasn't often Velg'larn was seen wandering about the landscape during day, but there he was. The sight brought an acrid taste to her mouth, which she tried to remove on the roof of her mouth. Today, however, she had no time to stop and mingle with him, she was on a mission, to go to her tree, and stay there all day. It had been a long time since she'd reminisced, and another idea came to her. Why not visit her father's tree? They were said to die when the Nequus took their leave, but she had seen none of this occurance.

It was a confusing situation, and one which she planned to investigate. So, ignoring the lingering presence of Velg'larn, she set off into the tree lands; milling about for the trees of her parenthood. Her mother's, she knew, was still strong, showing that the mare yet lived on, though where, she could not discern. Perhaps hiding, maybe playing Storm a fool. In either case, it was not the bit of foliage she had set out for. No, there, not to far ahead in the thickening and heightening tree limbs, near the very base of the flora, lie her father's tree.

It was tall, no doubt, and looked to be well, but even she could spy the slowly curling branches and the falling of leaves to the earth. They littered the ground all about, but that was not what disturbed her the most.

For there, where no tree should have been, young or old, was yet another tree, or rather two, and they grew upwards towards a tiny light that shown through the thick leaves of the living. Storm looked at it in horror, for there was no mistaking the pattern of the bark, or of the tree. It was much of her own, and beside it, a tree that threatened to intertwine itself. One which she had not given much close scrutinty, but it could be no other. Here, in the south quadrant where she had so warily chosen to wander on this day.

Velg'larn looked up for a moment seeing the golden coat he knew all to well. Velg'larn snorted but perhaps it might be a time to antagonixe her he thought breifly. He Turned to follow her. "Whats your problem?" He asked coldly before turning again. He didn't bother to look at what she was staring at.

Her mouth was completely unhinged, and she could feel the air drying it, making her tongue stick to the roof of her mouth. But her brain didn't process and tell her to close it, because she was still gazing, in shock and slowly, anger. The wind picked up its energy, twirling about her head and cooling her body. She felt a shiver go down her spine, and she finally smacked her lips together, wetting her maw once more.

She flicked two ears back at the approaching Velg'larn. It was good, he was here. Now she could scream at him, and pound him into the loam of the earth. It had to have been all his fault. He was supposed to be emotionless. Things like this didn't happen to couples like them, for the mere fact that they weren't paired.

She frowned, and flicked her gaze towards him. "Velg'larn." She spoke his name softly, but harshly, with a tinge of urgency sandwhiched between the two. Never had she been confronted with such a problem, nor did she wish to be. The stories of pain, suffering, and near death that revolved around motherhood made her shudder. There was a chance she wouldn't live through the ordeal, and nor would the fruits.

Most of all, she felt a distinct anger towards Velg, because these children wouldn't have a father. Not like she'd wanted them to have, when the day might have come. It had been too soon, and it had been the wrong way.

"What are we going to do?" she jerked her head towards the rising fruit tree. Perhaps he hadn't seen the resemblance, but she had.

Velg'larn's name coming from Storms mouth was harsh and urget yet soft at the same time he wondered why although his wonders were answered as he took a closer look at the little tree. Velg'larn looked at the tree as it grew as he came to a realization. If he hadn't been so composed he would have doubled over in horror and shock instead he just stared there speachless a brief wave of shock crossed his normally emotionless face. How could this happen? no doubt Storm was itching to yell at him and intentionally he had come to antagonzie her. Velg'larn didn't even want children not in the least. They were too much of an emotional burden but some how... He had gotten them and with this mare full of emotions he could bearly stand it. Why did it turn out like this? he wondered then Storms question hit.

"What are we going to do?" Storm had said

He honestly didn't know what they could do and what one such as he was supposed to do. How in the hell did this happen? the question kept popping up in his mind. Velg'larn looked away, most would logically help it grow and raise the tree. But what about him? Course she would probally never forgive him for abandoning her and most likely kill him when she felt better although he would miss their arguements although that he kept to himself and shoved the thought away.

"I have no idea." he said looking back toward the tree he had no words to express his confusion he wanted to run, leave and stay at the same time. Why him? he snorted to himself.

"Well," she said, pausing for a moment to gather her thoughts. "For one thing, you have to be around a lot more. I can't raise these kids on my own. For another, you're going to have to be my slave for a month, because these damn trees will knock the energy right out of you." She hated the prospect of having children, she really did, but she knew in the end she would grow to love them more than anything else in the world.

Just another thing she would grow to have to protect. Wasn't her life just splendid? She rolled her eyes and sighed, turning around to step out into the grasslands.

If she was going to make it through this, she had to start eating a lot, and now, so when those kids finally did come to make her ruin, she'd be able to do something about it.

"I just hope you can make a good enough father."

((I feel dumb for not finishing this))

Around her? him? Well he guessed it couldn't be helped and when the foals ere born he would be able to continue his wanderings. Velg'larn didn't care in the least. At least he didn't have to be the one who became weak and helpless. Of course he had only seen Storm like that once.

Velg'larn looked to the small tree he hoped that he didn't become to attached to those that came from it. If he became attached to anything it could be considered a weakness to him and some would exploit it.

Velg'larn watched a storm went to eat...

'I just hope you can make a good enough father' she had said

Why? his thought. He didn't even want children. Hid goodly brother would have but not him. They weren’t even a couple how could something like this happen to them. He would have to stay here and guard the tree while she gouged.

(( Nah, its fine Ice. <3 I understand completely ))

Months passed, and it was just as she said. Velg'larn was entitled to the guarding, and Storm basically layed around looking horrid. In fact, she looked so terrible she wondered if she'd ever come to beauty again, or if she was stuck looking like a mother for the rest of her life.

The tree sprouted, grew, and eventually came to bear fruits. They themselves grew, it seemed as though everything was changing except Velg'larn. Only Storm might see the mental twitch that occured in that mind.

Towards the end of the ordeal Storm found herself in fear, often calling out to Velg'larn, making sure he was still there. She hallucinated a bit, thinking he'd abandonned her, and she'd kill him for it, but in the end they came out alright, and eventually the drain stopped.

She could feel the warmth returning, and in a week she could stand and walk around again for short periods of time.

"What do you think they'll be like?" she asked Velg'larn while staring at the fruits with an uncharacteristic kindness of heart. "A son, perhaps?" she wondered allowed, her eyes never once leaving her own flesh and blood.

The months passed and Velg'larn stayed and did his duties guarding the tree and Storm. Velg'larn was never far away. He had realized as the months had gone on she kept calling on him to make sure he was there. Velg'larn heard the fear in her voice. The plum stallion stayed in her line of sight so she wouldn't have to worry and only left for short periods of time to make sure there were no intruders or anyone to harm those around the tree.

Velg'larn watched the fruits grow. Four foals sired by him. Never had he stayed in a single place for so long. Months and he hadn't left this place, as much as he was compelled to go. He himself did wonder why he didn't leave. Was it Storm? The Fruits? Or some strange emotion that he tried so hard to control?

As soon as the draining of Storm stopped she began to regain herself, Velg'larn noticed the subtle difference when it had stopped. In the next weeks that passed Strom began to become active once more.

Storm had come up to Velg'larn one day "what do you think they will be like?" she had asked him.

Velg'larn wouldn't admit but too wondered what they would be like. How should he answer? Velg’larn stood silent for a long while before answering. “I’m not sure, I haven’t thought about it.”

“Perhaps all mares.” He said. He wanted his children to be mares, for some strange reason but that too would stay in the back of him mind. He noticed that storm's eyes had never left that of their brood. But he too had found himself when Storm wasn't looking unable to stare away from them.
