ok, you open up your menu and select the pattern thingy.
then you select a pattern and drag it to the bottom-left hand corner of your ds screen the outline of an invisible box will show in green.

then the color of your menu will change.
cool, huh question

you aren't limited to a colour .. i put metroids in my menu thing 3nodding

Well it's not a big deal since you're new and not behaving like a noob lol.

P.S. I didn't realise you could use other items (I thought only patterns and clothes went in)... could you also use paper/letters?
