So my HS team is really small this year (8 varsity guys) and we didn't have anyone to put in the 100 Butterfly, so my coach randomly chose me. So far, the best I've done was 5th with a 1:18... I can go the first 75 pretty well, so long as I don't push it at all, and rely on my mechanics. I try to up the pace on the last 25, but I'm usually too tired so I end up going the same speed as before.

Does anyone have any tips about how to drop my time?

Practice I guess. I can't tell you you're swimming it wrong or correctly so I can just tell you to practice or ask your coach if you're swimming in an effective way. sweatdrop

hmm... well, one thing my coach told me that I never realized is that instead of pushing down your chest during your recovery, push forward. It's more efficient that way. :]
Also keep your arms straight during the recovery. If your elbows are bent, that means you have to bring your arms higher to prevent your hands from dragging in the water -- which takes more energy and time.

I'm not sure if you knew this already, but hey, it doesn't hurt. smile

+make your recovery strokes fast.
+try to keep your hips close to the top (makes it easier)
....and don't get a shoulder injury!!!!

try to imagine that you're always pushing forewards like you riding a wave always smoothly going forewards with a little up and down motion to it, rather than like pulling you body all of the way out of the water for your breath then falling down after your recovory. does that make sense?

i find that it is easier to do side breathing---ONLY TO ONE SIDE THO----
it keeps you lower to the water and you do not have to worry about sinking hips

i find that if you do more fish kicks off the turns, you can sprint fly better
side breathing helps a lot more

I am not the biggest fan of the 100 fly. . . 200 is much better. What you can do is really drive with your legs and hold a breathing pattern like two strokes down and then one up.

i love fly. you basically go in a teeter totter position. like when your head is up to breath, your hips are down under the surface of the water, and when your head is in the water, your hips are up a little above the surface of the water. its also easier if you breath before your arms recover instead of breathing and recovering at the same time. you'll go forward instead of no where.

i hope this helps :]

What I do with all of my strokes is, on the last lap, you don't need to turn, therefore you don't need to count strokes, so I just don't pay attention to where I am in the pool and just swim as hard and fast as I can. I concentrate more on the quality of my stroke, because i don't need to count my strokes. You should count your strokes and kick into the wall from a specific distance. But I always take the extra stroke.

well i'm not a fan of fly though
well......
i can tell u this
1. keep a good pace on the [well if u are doing a 100] then u pace on the first 50 then on the 75 that's where u pick up the pace cause in the race that's where everyone slows down on that lap of the 100
then on the last lap that where u spirit yur a** off lol

2. have good techniques
* keep a good breathing pattern
like 2 down 1 up that's a good pattern
*be in line like breaststroke
that means when u breathe keep yur head DOWN !
and yur HIPS up
well u can breathe on yur side but idk yur choice =]

and that's about it and if u follow mt tips
HOPEFULLY u will approve =]
if u need mire info on swimming just pm me i guess
and i'll try my best to answer yur questions kk
well cya later bye =]

Good luck with fly and the 8 man team. When I was a freshmen we had a 9 man team. :]

Idk if someone posted it already but try to make sure when you do go for a breath try not to life your head as far out. And the breathing thing with the breathing pattern to stroke helps too although I only did fly for 200 IM but I did remember getting 1:08s on the 100 fly. >.> that still isnt great for the league my high school was in though.
