Eldin Desura vs. Evnal Marxus

FIGHT!
PostPosted: Wed Dec 27, 2006 5:14 pm

"Well at least I didn't forget this time," said a soft voice muffled by a layer of cloth. The owner of the voice was a Channeler by the name of Eldin Desura. The being whose species' biological makeup was nearly identical to that of a human's was referring to his last match. Having nearly missed its due time he had rushed to the arena in his casual wear without his weapon or armour and been seriously worried about how the battle might have played out. In a turn of events that was perhaps lucky for him, Eldin's opponent had not actually shown to do battle and he had won by default.

Dark brown boots carried the six foot tall man in towards the center of the arena, a few grains of sand falling from the soles with just momentary cling to the material after each step. Amber-coloured irises offered a quick glance to he crowd before the man's eyes returned to a level stare towards the gate his opponent was due to appear from. Eldin hadn't expected the crowd to cheer for him or anything. His first match had been against an old man he really had no desire to risk hurting and was lucky to have forfeit before the match got too intense. His other uneventful match had already been recollected. Now he was here, fully clad in his slightly baggy, light brown pants and red sleeveless shirt. His shin guards and gauntlets protected his arms and legs with their unidentifiable pure white metal. the same material that formed the round plates of armour covering his chest and back. The final piece of his ensemble was the red scarf tied protectively around the lower half of his head, which was hiding everything below the ridge of his nose. A thin black scar of burned flesh could be seen riding up the side of that nose, between it and his right eye. Anything more was concealed by the red fabric along with Eldin's mouth, the two long tails of the scarf following behind him.

Eldin's longsword was sheathed in it's protective silver casing at his left hip. This time he wouldn't be without it, assuming his opponent would indeed show to do battle. He'd heard nothing about who it might be, this Evnal Marxus. Eldin could only hope his opponent was an honourable man as his mostly bar right hand ran through his short but messy blond hair in a nervous habit. The Channeler's walk had ended right before the sword emblem in the arena's center. Now all that was left to was wait.

Clad in all black, a large hooded cloak covering the rest of his clothing and quite a few weapons, Evnal Marxus would emerge once more from the crowd and jump down to the arena floor. Raising himself vertically he'd smirk at his opponent, as fiery yellow optics fell upon his opponents.

"Nice entrance," Eldin said passingly as he smiled underneath his scarf. Only his eyes could convey expression to his opponent, but they were closed as he shook his head slightly. He was never one to make special entrances but he knew someone who was a little too fond of just that. He almost laughed at the thought of the man.

Eldin's left hand moved to hold his sheath as he angled his right side towards his opponent.

'This guy's energy field is different than most people's,' he noticed, never having encountered one capable of manipulating the Force before.

Reaching into his cloak with his right arm he'd remove a foot long cylindrical object which he'd hold out before his opponent. Pressing a single button at one end a crimson energy blade would extend forth from the top side. Moving his freehand across the handle he'd push a button at the other end, from which an identical blade would be produced.

Holding the blade in his right hand at his side he'd close his eyes as well, extending his perception within the force and therefore the area about him.

Eldin didn't need caida to know that the enemy's weapon was a blade made of pure energy, but it did conform it.

'That's gonna be dangerous as anything I've fought if he's any good with that thing,' Eldin thought. 'And chances are he is.'

The Channeler's right hand gripped the hilt of his own weapon and pulled the longsword from its silver sheath. The blade was a very light purple in colour and had a texture that appeared more like a raw mineral than tempered metal. As if it had just been carved out of stone.

Eldin panted his feet shoulder length apart and held his longsword with both hands, angling the blade down fourty-five degrees from straight up and towards his opponent. His eyes looked past the two sides of his weapon and locked onto the hand that was holding the dual-bladed lightsaber. Eldin opened up a second channel of thought to do the minor task of channeling a small amount of his power spirit energy into the air around his blade. It wasn't doing anything yet, but it would be ready when needed. A third channel would keep focused on the energy field of his opponent.

"Shall we begin?"

For a moment Marxus stood completely still looking at his opponent with a malicious and evil glare that would send chills down the spine of a normal man. Especially in their orangish fiery tint his eyes would appear intimidating to most. Seemingly without warning or indication of change in his aura his non-blade holding hand would snap forwards palm out and a force wall of manifest kinetic energy would burst forth at his opponent. It would continuing expanding every instant between the time it left his hand and presumably hit his opponent. In its design it was interwoven layers of kinetic energy and compressed air with no interior flaws. As a result all in its path would be blown backwards with great force and power. In the instant just following the hand movement he'd be lowering his body and lunging forward slashing at his midsection with the staff. The staff allowed him leverage and to keep distance between himself and his opponent in this strike.

Eldin couldn't help but suppress a bubbling expression of rejection at his opponent's clear... "unfriendliness". The Channeler had hoped to duel with honourable opponents when the wind had led him to this tournament, but this man made him feel like he out battling evil instead. An experience he knew well.

The sense of air rushing towards him and being displaced hit Eldin's sense of caida like an alarm. At literally the speed of thought he opened another channel and started swapping certain spiritual energies from his soul with the empty spiritual energy caida had laced into the air around him. The Power Spirit energy created a burst of kinetic force when fused with the the spirit particles in the air before him and met the Force Wave of his opponent just a little on his side of perfectly between them. The energies didn't halt the blast, but rather cushioned it as more built up behind and eventually negated the wave with equal force on both sides. Though technically a gradual process, to ordinary members of the audience it might appear as nothing more than a short-lived orange glow taking place in front of Eldin and moving slightly towards him before dying off. Because his ability was the result of a spiritual ritual taking place inside his brain and required no outward physical movement, some may have even interpreted it as the visual effect of Marxus' own hand motion. In the end, of course, their perceptions would be irrelevant. If his opponent didn't let the tiny light show scare him off, and this warrior wasn't counting on it, Desura would have have other things to worry about.

With more channels still focused on the Sith's body movements, especially that weapon's, Eldin was ready to move as soon as possible in response to his opponent. The Channeler's body weight shifted backwards as Marxus' form moved quickly through the lingering haze of orange in the air. Already his brain was opening more lines of thought specifically for the use of his spiritual ritual. He had been foolish not to be completely ready from the start, but Desura always seemed to hope he could fight with nothing but his sword and usually ended up wrong.

Marxus' advantage of range was true as Eldin spurted backwards on a leg thrust that sent him far enough to avoid being burned through by the deadly red light. Although his sword was made of an exceptionally durable mineral Eldin still knew it wasn't indestructible. The chances of it simply being melted through it he tried to parry were not zero and that made it a little too high-risk for his liking. he took some comfort in the idea that, if he were forced to try and block with his sword, then he should at least have a few seconds worth of time before it could be sliced through by the enemy's superior cutting power.

As his boots both took firm stance in the earth again just a bare moment later, Eldin concocted an idea of how to fight around that staff. It would be tricky and require a lot of good timing, but it just might pay off. For now he'd have to wait for the enemy to make another advance, but in the meantime he opened a channel specifically for concentrating on the spirit particles floating around the blade of his weapon.

He might be better off if he just abandoned trying to sword fight his way out of this, but Eldin rarely seemed to think that way. He loved swordplay too much, even if he wasn't amazingly skilled with it. It was a major weakness his opponent would have the chance to exploit without even trying to.

Whipping aroung the staff he'd rotate it in his hands a few times chuckling a bit, his malicious eyes meeting that of his opponents for only an instant. Lowering himself once more he'd advance, this time much faster, at an alarming rate he'd be just in front of his opponent, bent low and to his right he'd slash upwards from right to left hoping to bisect his opponent from this low angle. The low body and staff allowed him still a bit of range which would afford him time to counter an attack.

This time Eldin stood his ground. The Channeler's longsword rotated in the air before him as his hands motioned it into the lightsaber's path. His weapon had impressive reach of its own and would be able to meet his opponent's attack before it got dangerously close. Since Evnal was putting more speed into the strikes than strength, Eldin could parry by doing the same if his weapon wasn't destroyed. This was where his test would occur.

The air around his blade was suddenly charged with a spiritual energy identical to that which Eldin had used to counter Marxus' initial Force wave. The orange glow created a barrier of pure force, meant to guard the beam of light as well as steel guards steel. If it worked his sword would become usable in weapon-to-weapon combat once again, but at the cost of becoming almost useless against his foe's body unless he released the field with precision timing. Timing he wasn't completely incapable of, mind you, but Eldin did have a lot to focus on already. Even with that limitation, Eldin was still likely to use this tactic to fight the Sith's lightsaber. Best method or not, it was just the way he loved to fight. Besides, focus was what opening channels was all about.

As the blades clashed together a loud ping would be heard along with a show of sparks as the spiritual energies themselves were singed. As the top side of the blade retreated, a small clink of metal unhooking would be heard and his hands would part each, the staff seperating into two blades. As his opponents long sword would guide the top blade downards held in his right hand, his left would come up. The blade end protruding from the bottom of his hand, he'd turn his left wrist and slash horizontally with this blade at the right side of his opponent's neck moving left to right. His hope in this quick counter was that his opponent's balance would sway only slightly when the blades met and he retracted his own. In this slight inbalance the speed and spontaneity of his attack should catch his opponent off guard and remove his head.

Evnal was more than obviously a smart, seasoned fighter. His separating of the weapon at that exact moment was as very difficult maneuver to evade, Eldin's balance acting much as the Sith had wanted it to. Light met flesh as the weapon from a galaxy far, far away began burning through Eldin's neck with ridiculous ease.

Until it met his neck bone.

The lightsaber was halted immediately in a similar fashion as to what had occurred when his spiritual barrier hit the controlled red laser beam, but this was not a defence of any conscious action by Desura. No, Eldin's consciousness was caught up in the fact that there was a laser beam in his neck. Although he couldn't react with his body fast enough to get away from the outer damage his survival instincts kicked in, filling the air between himself and his opponent with a sudden and rather violent burst of elemental wind energy. The effect created an explosive gust that went off in all directions between the two, which would send Eldin sailing off his feet just around the time the intangible blade met the psychic barrier within his body. If not for that barrier his instincts would have been too late to save him from an instantly fatal injury.

Assuming his opponent did not obstruct the uncontrolled flight Eldin had sent himself on, though it was certainly possible it was within the man's power to do so, Eldin could only soften his landing by sending some earth elemental energy into the rocks beneath the sand he would soon hit. He softened the minerals and made a cushion-like impact on his upper back which would immediately turn into a rolled to send him right back to his feet, right hand already reaching over to cover the cauterized wound in his neck.

This opponent was truly dangerous and utterly merciless. Just the type Eldin hated fighting, but also one of the only he could really fight all-out. The Channeler could only hope he wasn't too late to start bringing his A game.

[So I'm assuming he's not going to bleed to death or anything from this.]

The gust of wind hit him full blast sending him flipping backwards a few feet. Mentally taking hold of the matter about his body, his descent would seem to change from a flailing fall to a calculated flip and landing in a lower crouching position. No sooner than the balls of his feet reached the arena floor did he spring forth again. Frustration and anger fueled this attack his speed increasing only slightly, a low ninja style dash, both blade draggin behind him in the air. To a disoriented and slightly uncomposed opponent his fury would seem as though a slight blur of crimson light trailing an ominous black figure. A main staple in his melee style of fighting was pursuit, the initial attacks were always planned though his reactions and counters were instinctual. This cut the time between attacks down quite a bit and as a result he found he could relentlessly barrage his opponents, leaving them little to no time to react.

As he came up on his opponent, his figure would split into two, a pair seemingly springing from his single body. Though if someone were reading a transference of energy they'de see a three way split. A traingle of sorts, though a third was not yet visible. Of the two each held a single crimson saber, and in their parting each would take a step outwards, coming at his opponent from the right and the left simultanouesly. The left would slash diagonally dragging the blade from left to right upwards, aimed to his around his rib cage and go up and out through his opposite shoulder. The right, would simply mimic his twin's move on the opposite side, both creating an X in their attacks. This was meant to catch his opponent off guard once more with two attacks from opposite angles, speed a bit faster than the previous attacks.

Already after him. Not completely unexpected. This time, however, Eldin's brain was focusing on everything it should have been.

Three energy signatures were moving through the empty spiritual energy of the Channeler's caida. The third was invisible to his eyes, but caida was usually more trustworthy than those things anyways. Eldin already had earth energy poured in to the ground beneath him, so the next step wasn't hard to come up with.

Desura quickly stuck the top of his sword into the sand moments after the enemy's split. The weapon's mineral was an amplifier of the spiritual energy within his soul and he used it to create the next offensive defence. The energy in the ground spread out and pulsed, resulting in a circle of thick, tall spikes made of stone erupting directly around his form and expanding outwards as more spikes jutted up out of the earth. They would rise to twice Eldin's usual standing height of six feet and expand quickly outwards to eventually form a five meter perimeter. The stone was currently reinforced in durability by the energy that created them but this would fade once the the process was finished.

At the center of the ring of spikes Eldin was of course following all three signatures intently, not ready to believe he'd gained too much time. Beneath his hand the wound in his neck was giving off a yellow glow as he created a spiritual regeneration to his lost flesh.

It was the simple nature of his defence that worried him most, but at the time it was the fastest possible course of action that might not be completely seen coming. If anything was above his ring of spikes then he'd be sure to divert power into extending the height of the defence in that area rather than covering farther ground.

As the spikes rose, the two clones would slash an X, and in their motion slice two of the spikes. Since it was a diagonal cut the spikes would slide down their bases and fall providing a rapidly opening window of oppurtunity. The third energy center materialized in the form of a third clone, mid dive he'd be seen coming through the hole in the spikes as though he'd been running a considerable distance and gaining momentum. As he came through palms open, mental tethers would extend forth yanking the sabers from the hands of the clones below, which now melded into a singular being, Marxus, and into the open reach of the third airborne clone. Sabers in hand the third clone flying rapidly straight towards his opponent would slash in an X formation both hands coming from above his opponent meant to strike the inside of both shoulders and drive through to his core neatly cutting him into a few pieces. Lowering his head slightly in the dive he'd create the beginnings of a forward flipping rotation to gain momentum for a more powerful strike.
