What is your Shadow's worst possible fear imagineable? What sort of nightmare would plague them, should they have a bad dream?
If you hadn't clued in from the title and question above, this plot update (which is also in the form of another miniquest) involves bad dreams and nightmare creatures. This does tie in to the current plot, and just as before, your involvement is completely optional and by no means mandatory. But you have to admit it has potential to be crazy fun!
How to Participate:
Let me know you want to join in! (I need to know because there are prizes involved. Mwahaha.) Create a nightmare beast (see info below on the dream realm and nightmare creatures) that shall give your Shadow (and guardian if you wish) a terrible, bad dream. Have your character wake up to find that the nightmare beast is REAL, as it has somehow manifested itself into the waking world. Just as before with the item quests, you must write a minimum of a 1000 words for your quest to be considered complete. This small bit of plot should last no more than 24hours IC-ly, specifically on the night before Christmas! The Prizes:
As before, you'll received the points that you earn from your writing, and an additional 2k just for participating. You'll also recieve a portrait of your Fiend, and potentially other spiffy artsy sorts of things depending upon how much time I have free. There is going to be a raffle for an actual nightmare creature that you may keep as a pet that shall be based off of your entry! Special Notes:
If you'd like to take your entry a step further, it would be possible to contain your nightmare somehow and bring it to Athan the next day at the shop! For this miniquest I am going to do something I typically sort of frown upon -- I'm going to allow you to dabble in the past. By that I mean you can use a fear that might have plagued your character in the past (Doran himself, being locked in a stone, something crazy, etc) as fuel for your nightmare beast. Wondering about all the nightmare stuffs? It isn't just because I'm a Tim Burton fan. This plot inadvertantly helps Mystic discover he's a dreamwalker. Huzzah! If you have trouble with ideas for your entry feel free to PM me or catch me on AIM (my sn is the same as my username, but you'll need to PM me your sn first since I'm on friends-only).
Dream Magic & The Dream Realm [These are Reyna's notes on the dream realm for Mystic. Just odd little things you might want to tie in/use at your own discretion. But you don't have to, of course!]
A person's projected image of themselves within the dream realm is often times more accurate a depiction of whom they truly are than their physical appearence. It's rare for the projected image to be the same as the person is in real life.
The problem with dream magic is that its mostly using suggestion -- suggestions often go on ignored unless it comes in the form of a nightmare. Then there's a chance that the meaning will be lost or forgotten in the wake of fear that is often associated with a nightmare.
Another problem is that your conscious self is basically leaving your body and entering someone else's mind. An anchor or tie to one's own mind is neccessary to keep from being lost within the mind of another. Always take care of entering another person's dreams.
The Book of Dreams is different for every dreamwalker that reads it because dreams are different for every person. There are basic known facts, but most are left open for interpretation. The dream realm is ever-changing. Nightmare Creatures Nightmare beasts, and most creatures of the dream realm, are sort of like changelings. They can contort their shape and become just about anything they want. Nightmares, though, are a little more like a bogart in that they change into what scares their victim the most. It is possible to control and manipulate them if you have the know-how, but you shouldn't place too much trust in them as you run the risk that they'll turn on you.
Nightmares that have manifested outside of the dream realm (a very odd occurance that isn't easily explained, but nothing in the dream realm ever is since it is constantly changing) can be killed, caged, tamed, and otherwise treated like a household pet. Now whether or not you'd really want to keep such a scary thing, well... that's up to you.
