I found this in my local newspaper.

Quote:
No gift could make me so happy, as to see your smiling face as you trudge up the driveway, knapsack on your back, your suit rumpled, your GI boots with the laces loosely tied, your cap on a saluting angle; so matter of fact like always. No gift could make me so happy, as to see you with a long beard because you did not take time to shave, and you wanted to look as much like Santa as possible, for the children's sake. No gift could make me so happy, as to see you waving and shouting to me; "I'm home; I'm home! And it's just another tomorrow." "I see you! I see you!" You're smiling, just as we said, you would surely be home soon.

And you did come. The bugler played "Taps." They gave me my gift, "the flag" folded in a triangle. It's red, white, and blue, with stars and stripes. No Christmas wrapping, ribbon or bow. Ellusive dream state? For I still seem to see you, coming up the garden path, and you are bringing a Christmas tree. "Oh-h! It's the 'Tree of Life'." One branch is broken off, and there are no trimmings, only dewdrops, and one shining star on top. It is Christmas; the bells are ringing, carolers are singing, and I hear your voice in the echoes of my mind singing "Joy to the World," "Peace and Goodwill" to all mankind. Merry Christmas my lost warrior "MERRY CHRISTMAS."
-Kathleen Gerety Atkinson

So who cried? I know I did.

Also, don't you guys start any of that "lol not everyone celebrates Christmas" crap like they did when I posted this in the GD.

Wow.... Celudan has a soul. It's a miracle!

But seriously, that's ******** sad. I find myself lucky to not have any relatives in the heat of the battle in the Middle East. To the best of my knowledge the closest we've gotten is my cousin's ex-husband who was in the navy and stationed in Italy a year or two ago.

A Christmas miracle, methinks. I told a few people I didn't even know "Merry Christmas" today. :3

Yeah, I feel really bad for the families and wifes with men or relatives in Iraq, or any part of the world away from home on Christmas. It must be a real bummer for them...

My dad went to Iraq. But he's in the Navy and all he does is fix planes. Also he stayed all the time on an aircraft carrier. That's all he did, never actually touching Iraq land once.

He's back, and retired.

My dad just retired from the Army this Summer. Thankfully, he never had to go to Iraq or anything.
But yea, that's a pretty touching thing you found. :3

Life goes on. And then it doesn't. Harshest reality to face because no logic or reason can be found in it.

Oh well... Merry Christmas.

It's sad that things like this have to exist. I really don't want to start a flame war, but this stupid war Bush started... neutral Ugh. Pathetic. I feel badly for the author of that piece.

Despite that, Merry Christmas, guys. 3nodding
