Oh dear. Madeline frowned looking down at the list of children who needed vacinations...it seemed D-corp had been slipping again. "I haven't had a list this large since the first group of pre-teens..." Frowning, Madeline bit her lip and went to get to work. It was going to be a long day.
Yet, recently things had been going well, all the children she had received had been very well behaved. Perhaps the trend would continue?

Cleo was the first to pop in! Her sister, the very tall one, was lagging a bit behind but that was alright! Cleo would be the first to get it all done and be healthy and it would all be okay.
Right? Right.
The goldcrest knoked a little at the door before edging inside, her curly hair bobbing a bit. Her mam said to be strong. It wouldn't hurt. Mam was out getting food. She had dropped them off.
"This where I ge' m'shots?" She whispered, golden eyes wide and on the woman.

Tyven didn't like this. Jem had shown her a picture on the computer of a needle, and they looked a lot like straight fangs. Nothing like that was going into her sister! The stoic-looking girl strode in after Cleo, slit-pupiled eyes narrowed as they searched the room and landed on Madame Crossette. She looked pretty, but as Tyven knew, most enemies would try to decieve you.
She was silent, unlike her older sister, and simply folded her arms across her tank-topped chest, frowning slightly.

Busy with getting things ready, Madeline barely heard the pair coming in. It was only with Cleo's warming voice did the blonde turn her head to flash the little girl an equally sweet sickening smile.
"Let me see here...You must be my little Goldcrest I have today." Leaning down Madeline came closer to Cleo, she looked slightly nervous, but that could easily be treated. As for the other one...
"And you must be Tyven. Aren't you two the most adorable pair I've seen in a good long while. Now, which one first? --Just take a seat on the exam table." Madeline pointed to the cool bench, before wandering back to get her tray of needles.

Once Tyven was in and Madeline was spoken, Cleo turned and latched onto her taller little sisters arm, peering over back at the woman. Who first? Tyven was bravest.. if she saw Cleo crying like a little baby, she might not get hers. But Cleo was the oldest. It was her job to do this stuff first, just to show Tyvvie it was okay.
Besides.. her mam told her it would be fine. Fine. No hurts.
"'M Cleo," She finally agreed with the woman, her arms giving Tyvens a tight squeeze before releasing. "An' this is m'little sister, Tyvvie. Uhm..." She hesitated, head cocking to peek at Tyven. "I c'n go firs'? Y'll relax if I don' cry."
If she didn't cry. Oh boy. At least Cleo hadn't cried yet, in front of people. Ever. One hand moved to rub at her scarred cheek as she moved to the bench. If she didn't cry at THAT, this would be nothing. Shots didn't mean lots and lots of bleeding.
The goldcrest sat on the bench, chewing at her lower lip. "...now wha'?"

Walking back, Cleo's words worried Madeline. Did that mean Tyven was scared about this whole process? That did not bode well...especially since Tyven if provoked, could prove very harmful to Madeline. The child wouldn't bite...would she?
"Now you close your eyes real hard for me and think of some place beautiful you and your sister really want to go--" The teacher smiled slightly, "I'm going to give your arm a soft pinch, do not worry though..." Madeline had a delicate touch about these things. "That's right--there we go," An while Cleo was distracted, the teacher slipped the first needle into Cleo's arm.

Comforted momentarily by her sister's clinging, she joined her on the seat, still her comfort disappeared quickly as the blonde woman stepped closer.
Tyven was not distracted by the pleasant words, and definately had wanted to go first. If they needed two sets of shots, couldn't Tyven take both sets for her sister, so she wouldn't have to? But before she knew it, Madeline had the first needle in Cleo's little arm, and the snake was hissing loudly. She was smart enough to wait for it to be withdrawn, but now her fangs were bared, and her jaw was unhinging in a rather threatening manner...
She didn't like people pinching Cleo, nor did she like them sticking fangs in their arms. Fangs filled with something. Venom? Like the kind Orpheus had made her drink? It didn't hurt Tyven but it could hurt Cleo!
"No."
Tyven was not a happy camper.

Cleo just locked her eyes on her sister, just past Madeline. Her mother once said not looking at things like this made them hurt less and so she didn't want to be hurt at all, if it was just a pinch.
Since she had never SEEN a shot before, she couldn't imagine the needle sliding under her flesh and pumping into her veins. Instead, she just thought of her sister. And Lian and Azoc. Of her Mam and Auntie too. The bird was chewing at her lower lip and when that pinch went away, she looked down. A small swell of blood, but just momentarily.
Her eyes shot to Tyven. "Didn' hur'." She said quite firmly, although there was a mild tremor. It hadn/t hurt but there was BLOOD. "S'no eatin' no one."
Was there supposed to be blood?!

It was only natural for Madeline to feel nervous as Tyven admitted a hiss. Human nature called for the teacher to be cautious...something she couldn't help in this situation.
Leaning in Madeline pulled out a anti-bacterial swab from her pocket and removed the bit of cloth from it's packaging. "Of course it didn't hurt. Shots only make you better..." Madeline paused as she fished wiping off the bit of blood on Cleo's arm. Curling her lips into an "O" shape, she gave a soft puff of cooling air before applying a fresh brightly flowered band aid.
"All done," Madeline looked up at the small child who seemed to be still slightly dazed from the experience, "sisters turn next."

Tyven seemed instantly relaxed as Cleo had a band-aid placed over the small wound, and her hissing abaited as she kept lavendar eyes on Madeline. She was still wary, but in all honestly, if Cleo could take it, and thought it was all right, Tyven could.
The purple critter frowned slightly, and stuck out her arm, wanting to get it over with quickly. Hopefully, she wouldn't get a stupid flower band-aid. Blech.

Her Mam would be proud! Indeed. Cleo wriggled off the bench and towards her sister, small fingers reaching out to curl around the snakes arm that wasnt thrust foreward to be punctured.
She watched, wide eyed, as the things were being prepared; they could leave soon and Mam had promised an ice cream afterwards if she didn't cry. And she hadn't! Tyven would even atest to it. "Squeeze m'hand if i'pinches bad. Kay?"
Her fingers moved down to wrap around the others hand, giving her a reassuring squeeze. Tyven would be strong!

Nearing Tyven, Madeline gently took the girls arm only to realize...scales. She didn't know for sure, but in the past, when dealing with such thick skin, the needles hardly went through. Simon's body had been the worst so far... Timidly Madeline poked the needle against Tyven's skin.
...
Not a budge. A soft and worried sigh escaped the teachers mouth and quietly Madeline bit down on her lower lip. "Tyven...could you please lay down on your back and role up your shirt again? "
She didn't know how to explain herself, but all the same felt the need to justify her actions. "You see--your skins to thick to get the injection--" as if a child understood such complex terms, now she was simply babbling and..."You are just a little different than your sibling you see, were going to try this a different way."

Tyven didn't like exposing her belly to anyone, her throat either. Call it instinct. Uncomfortably, she eyed the long needle, debating. It was true, that she was only scaled in some parts, but her skin was just as thick in the parts that didn't have the purple marks on it. Still. Cleo was there. Cleo wouldn't get her icecream if Tyven didn't cooperate with the strange woman. Another quiet hiss, and she lowered herself, lifting her tanktop to expose her stomach.
"Okay."
Of course, now there was no hope of distracting her from the injection.

Eyes cast downward as the teacher looked away uncomfortably. Sometimes there were just parts of the job that she hated...it was one thing to have a child close their eyes and count to ten while she gently nicked them in the arm. Children like Tyven however, it must have pained them just a bit more, something Madeline never liked to see.
"My apologies in advanced," Ms. Crossette said as she slipped the first injection into the smooth under belly of the snake. To be perfectly frank and sincere, she wouldn't blame the girl of Tyven bit her.
"One more--" Madeline said, almost ready to finish up with things.

Instead of wincing or whining, Tyven simply blinked rapidly several times, before tears could start, flashing Cleo a smile that looked real, to reassure her sister. Things were just fine. It actually hurt a bit, especially because Tyven was extra-sensitive there, but the girl nodded almost agreeably at Madeline's comment about one more.
"We'll get icecream 'fter this, Cleo."
