DD's Review:
Yesterday, I decided to do something daring and go to the haven for midwestern mom's: Wal-Mart. Hey, sometimes they can have decent stuff. What do I see upon walking by the new release section but Bowie: A Reality Tour staring at me, beckoning, whispering..."buy me!". And with a price of only $9.64, I coulden't argue.
THE FILM:
Wow.
Bowie: A Reality Tour(BART for short) is a fantastic concert video, even though it is flawed.
PROS: David, duh. We get the WHOLE concert, from beginning to end, and it's not made up of clips from multiple concerts. And then there is the acoustic version of Loving the Alien. Words can't describe how great it is(Didy, do you mind if I rip it onto MP3 to share with everyone?)
CONS: Only one song from my namesake!??? Be My Wife instead of Sound and Vision? No Space Oddity? Tisk, tisk, David stare
The DVD:
Picture- We get a nice, crisp picture(formatted to 1:85:1 aspect ratio), minimum artifacing, and that they managed to fit a 2 1/2 hour film onto one disc without sacrificing that much image quality is nice; unfortunately it doesn't leave room for any extras besides a discography. The concert was obviously shot on DV, so that does detract slightly from the viewing experience, but not much.
Audio- I have a little nit to pick with the audio. The overall stereo presentation is fine(DD 5.1 and DD Stereo), but many times during the concert, the music seems muted. This may be a problem with the recording, or simply that the musicians are being half-assed(that drummer sucks hard scream )
