Jamaa had a quick hour to leave the Mpinzani packlands and if for the little while it was alright. He was yearning for his son again, he was told that he had a friend now too, Topas' girl. That would be interesting sight to see. The copper-brown dog bound over the rock pile and sniffed around for the hole the ratel told him about. He was right however, the tunnel did stop short before Jamaa's den and the tree...it was the tree he had rended that night so many moons ago. He glanced at it to see that it was healing slowly which made him feel a little better for what he did.
As he stared at the tree, he took a step to get a closer look when his paw slipped sending him down into the burrow. A few rolls and then a thud when he hit the ground. On his back, Jamaa peered down the tunnel. It was pitch black in there. He had to rely on his nose for this. Carefully, he got to his feet and rolled his shoulders.
"This is gonna be fun."
He smirked and pressed on into the darkness and on the other side, his son would be waiting for him to embrace him with open arms. Yakuti must've grown so much over the past months. He remembered it was just yesterday that he had confer the family den to him. It was only just yesterday that he and Ryega met. Oh he so very much wanted to see him again.

The same desire filled Yakuti as well. It had been a long time, too long since he had seen his father Jamaa. Yakuti debated about going through the tunnel to find him, but decided against it. He couldn't leave Omoa all alone, and he didn't think he had time to go for a visit anyway.
Yakuti sighed and looked longingly at the dark corner that had the entrance to the tunnel hidden away in it. There were so many things he wanted to ask Jamaa, especially more about love. If he had learned one thing from being with Shira, it was that love stinks... Yakuti wanted more than anything to make her happy, but he wondered if the price was too high, the pain it caused him almost made him want to give up living.
He wanted to ask Jamaa if there was any way to get rid of that feeling of love inside him, but even if he could, he wasn't so sure he wanted to...
The blue hyena shook his head and gently nuzzled the sleeping Omoa. It was time for her to wake up, they had to patrol soon. If they didn't leave quickly, Shira would be back before they left, and he didn't want to talk to her right now.
Omoa stirred from her sleep, wiggling around a little bit before un-curling herself from the tight ball she had pulled herself into. She yawned and smiled at her friend Yakuti, completely oblivious to the pain and confusion inside him. "We gonna play, 'kuti? Or patrol?" Omoa asked, attempting to use complete sentances as Yakuti had been teaching her.

Jamaa's nose poked out from the darkness as the scent of a grown male and a ratel wafted down the tunnel. He could see the light up ahead and something white too. Perhaps his son's new friend was white as Jini'ka the mother. He smiled and moved closer. It was interesting, Yakuti was of age now, he had given him "The Talk" just like any other would and he was problem swamped with females chasing after that blue butt of his.
The male moved slowly, but surely he peeked into the den. To his surprise, there weren't any females around. That was sort of disappointing. However, he could catch the scent of a female around in the den. It was very familiar....golden eyes turned back in to the mass of a son he had. He had grown, probably just to his shoulder or so, Hyenas didn't get taller than Wild Dogs and Jamaa...he was above average. Jamaa smirked and bent low, crept to the hyena's side and lunged at him with a cheerful cry.
"YAKUTI!"
He shouted as he bound to him.
-----
Shira had been on patrol since the early hours since morning. She knew that if she left, Yakuti would still be alseep and she would not have to talk with him. As of late, they had gotten a bit distant. They didn't sleep too close anymore sometimes she would leave the den to sleep outside. They hardly talked or made any eye contact. She knew she hurt him, very deeply and so much worse. He had been thinking about her, she had to react.
However, now....he was what she was thinking about. She was worried that because of all this he would never love again....that is if he grasped the concept of love already. He was worried that he would become what she had hated. She worried about her secrets. She was just worried about him. She had thought about Yakuti just as he had her.
Was she becoming the female that every male desired to dominate?
"Damn....."
She growled, she turned and headed back home to release some frustration, especially on Yakuti.

Yakuti laughed happily as they both tumbled a few feet, "Jamaa! It's so great to see you!" He said, nuzzling his father affectionately. "Jamaa, I'd like you to meet Omoa, she's Topas' daughter, but you probably already knew that." he said with another chuckle, "Come here, Omoa, meet Jamaa."
Omoa squeaked as a large creature came into the den and jumped at Yakuti, she had never seen such a thing. It looked kind of like a hyena, but not as furry... It was very strange, and yet the creature and Yakuti seemed to know eachother.
"Jamaa?" She asked, taking a cautious step towards the muddy brown being. "Is he... Friend?" She asked, turning her head to one side and examining him more closely.
The happyness inside the blue hyena was short lived, however. Yakuti's ears drooped as he remembered the questions he wanted to ask his father, and the scars on his face burned more noticably than before. Perhaps it was because he had been ignoring them before, but now they irritated him even more than when he first got them... When that little lion had gotten the better of him.
"Jamaa, I've been thinking about what you said, about love... I don't like it, it hurts a lot." He said quietly, "What if you don't get loved back? Then what?"

He smiled down to the little ratel, it was surely their daughter. She was the pure white and black that Topas and Jini shared. A nice mixture of the two obviously. Jamaa simple smiled to her and murred, his tail flagging enough to whip up a hurricane. His eyes turned back to his son when his expression became more stern. There were scars on his face. He has changed.
Jamaa got to his feet and examined Yakuti in every single way regardless of how he may feel about it. They were both male and he was the father. He looked over every inch of him.
"Yakuti, have you been getting yourself into trouble again? Those scars on your face did not come from nowhere. Are you behaving for the alpha? Are you working hard? Eating right? Taking care of yourself? How are you? Are you alright? Oh I missed you so much!"
He attacked the hyena with the fatherly barrage of questions, embracing hims son against him. He had got bigger since he last saw, that means he has been eating and quite well too since his fur was smoother. Slowly he began he fatherly duties again and started to groom his son. In a way, comforting him.
"Son, love hurts, it always does. It is good and bad, it has those sort of times. All you can do is keep hold of it if you really like this other. If they do not love you back....then you must move on. It'll be alright.
Now, who is this female I smell on you? Is this the female you are thinking of? Come on, you can tell me."

"It wasn't me, it was a lion." Yakuti scowled, remembering all too well how he had lost control then and there, how he had been outmatched by a mere cub. "Yes, I'm behaving, working hard, all that, and I'm alright I suppose." He said with a shrug. "I missed you too, Jamaa." He said in a more friendly tone. Just because he wasn't feeling so hot didn't mean he had to make his father feel the same way.
"I can't just move on, it doesn't work... Can't get her out of my head." He said with a sigh, "Yeah, that's her, her name is Shira and... Uh oh." He said, partly to himself. "Jamaa, she'll be here soon, I don't know if this is the best time to meet her." He said frantically, hoping there might be time for Jamaa to get the information he wanted and then go before Shira got back.
"Jamaa, if she catches you here, it could be bad, really bad." He said nervously. But now there was no hiding it, even if he left now, Shira would sniff him out and find him, it could potentially get dangerous, depending on how angry Shira got...

Shira hung her had a bit as she returned home, she actually hung it down. She sort of wanted to talk to Yakuti rather beat him, her mind changed on the trek back. As she approached she planned to get a few words before entering.
"Yakuti, I....-YOU!"
SHe growled. As soon as she stepped into den she immediately picked out the older male. Jamaa. He was her first love, the one she did not kill or turn away. But he broke her heart toward love and her tolerance to their species of canine. She growled and lunged at him, pulling him off Yakuti. She knew Jamaa, he was a father, he was Yakuti's father, and a male of desired traits. She pinned him down and growled.
"Give me good reason I should not snap your head off right here."
She growled.
Jamaa smiled contently and murred.
"Oh, Shira....Taashira'kikituto. I didn't think you'd know her, Yaku. Heh, it has been a while huh?"
He just smiled as if unphased, sort of a immature smile really.
"b*****d, I should kill you!"
The tawny female snarled as she raised her paw high into the air and readied it down onto him hard. She was of strength, enough to take out many lions if she so desired. Yakuti knew it, Mafa knew it, everyone did.

"Shira!" Yakuti gasped, his fear becoming a reality. "Don't hurt him, Shira!" He said, his face in shock and his heart torn both ways. He loved his father and received love in return, his love for Shira was different, but he still wouldn't let her hurt Jamaa.
Yakuti's mind raced with the possibilities of what he could do and what the consequences would be, and quickly decided on one. Taking a fighting pose, he growled.
"If you touch him, I'll fight you." He bluffed, hoping it would convince the female.
"I can't let you hurt him, not even if he did what you're doing to me." He barked.
Omoa sat where she was, observing the scene with wide eyes. She knew better than to get in Shira's way, but she didn't really want her new friend hurt either, she was completely dumbstruck.

Shira growled and remained over Jamaa, whom was just smiling back to her idiotically. She growled and held her paw in the air.
"I would to see you try, Yaku. Look at you, you are a mess, those scars obviously came from a lion. Damn it, I cannot love you because you are too weak!"
SHe snarled.
"Grow up, Yakuti. You can't rely on others too long you must grow cold and grow strong. If I were to mate with you, I want it to me with a male whom I can rival and enjoy a good spare. Right now...you are just as weak at Mabozi!"
Jamaa scowled.
"My son is not weak, he is simple not like the rest of you."
The male pushed her off with little ease and got up. Brushing himself off he sat where he was. His golden eyes fell onto the three skull inhabitance before him. Shira. Yakuti. Omoa.
"Yakuti do you love her? I mean do you really love her?"
His voice changed. It was deeper, stronger, and much more serious. The male had said that he loved her and that she did not return it. She just gave reason and Jamaa knew. He had spoken to her on numerous occasions before. His head turned to the female.
"Do you love my son not because he is my son, but for the male whom he has become? Or is there something more?
She paused. She had spoken to Mafa about this. But she was still a bit lost.
"I...do, but I cannot until he has grown stronger. The runt needs to grow up and be a male not the pup he is now. Only then will I love him back."
She narrowed and scoffed.

"If I was weak, I would have given into the pain you caused me, if I was weak I wouldn't be here challenging you. If I was weak, I would pull myself away from the world and in doing so give up. True strength comes from inside." He said, not moving at all.
"You ought to know that Mabozi is very strong. He may not be all there mentally, but he is a force to be reckoned with, or he will be once he grows, he'll outmatch any of us."
Yakuti turned his head and looked at Jamaa, "I do love her, I couldn't stop if I wanted to." He said quietly.
For a moment he listened to Shira's words, and then nodded his head. "As you wish." He said simply. "Tell me what you want me to do." He said humbly, sitting down and lowering his head. At the same time his heart sang, for he knew that he had a chance to be loved in return, if he could only become strong. That alone would be enough for him to push through anything.

"Train, Yakuti...I want you to be stronger than I. I know you can do. I want you to be stronger than anyone here in the pack. Mabozi isn't the force to be reckoned with, Yakuti, it is you. If you can a strong proud male, then I will love you."
Shira spoke, her eyes on him, but her head still high. She knew about Mabozi being a good strong male but the only thing that hindered him was his mental capacity. Yakuti and Mabozi were of the same age. However, Yakuti could become strong. He was raised by Wild Dogs and trained as a hyena, he is already strong but he needs to be better.
"Well, besides the fact that seeing Shira beside a weak male would make others think that she is weak. And besides the fact she would not mind something big and powerful to fight with. Meh, she is just being selfish."
Jamaa shrugged. Shira growled as her face turned a tint of pink and quickly faded. Jamaa chuckled and moved over to yakuti.
(Son, do as she says....I know you can be better than this Mabozi. Be the strongest just like me.)
The male licked his head softly and paused at the tunnel entrance.
"Shira, take care of my son. Help him to love you....and, stop following me."
Without another word, he flicked his tail as a wave good-bye and left.
Shira sighed and relaxed to her haunches.
"Damn your father..."

Yakuti smiled, "I will, Shira. I'll become the strongest one here." He said proudly, half ignoring what Jamaa said until he came over to him. Yakuti nodded at his father and licked his face back. "See you soon, father." He said happily, watching as he left.
The blue hyena looked back to Shira, chuckling softly, "Well, if I'm going to get stronger, I better get started. Omoa, stay here. I'll be back later." He said, walking out of the den to go for a run.
"I'll show her how strong I am." He said to himself, tensing up his muscles and launching himself forward, the hyena raced through the graveyard, into the distance, pushing himself to become the best he could be.
So began his training. Through the entire time, he would tell himself it was for Shira, and that thought would keep him going through the hardest of times.
