Oddball crouched in the farthest corner she could find in the third district of Travers Town. Tears slowly streamed down her face as she scowled at the cobble stones she sat on.
Cerberus lay in the open area just ouside Oddball's little alley. Diligently gaurding the only living thing that they cared about. Snarling as she snarled and whimpering as she whimpered. They didn't like the state she was in and hoped that she would return to her smiling self soon. At least the happy-go-lucky Oddball would wander the streets of Traverse with them and scare the locals.
Angrily, Oddball picked up a pebble and through it with all her might at the crates that were pilled near the wall opposite her. Causing a rather loud clatter to match her scream of, "WHY'D HE TAKE HER SIDE!!!"

"...Heaven only knows, child...."
Light, uneven footsteps sounded at the entrance to the alleyway - a scuffling, dragging sort of sound that signalled a familar presence.
Scarecrow.
He was dressed in his usual ill-fitting jacket - but it had gotten a lot more hacked at and stitched up since she had seen him last. His shirt beneath was unbuttoned a little at the top, suggesting casual behaviour - but there was something dark at his collarbone that wasn't quite visible.
Quirking a brow, his voice purred.
"...Now, what has you so upset?"

It's amazing how quickly Oddball's mood could change. Especialy when her favorite person graced her with his presence. "Dr. Crane!" she cried happily as she jumped to her feet and ran to greet him. Though tears still trickled down her furred cheeks.
Noting the change in their mistress, Cerberus raised all three of it's massive heads to their fullest height and watched the stranger through narrowed, blood red eyes. The left most head tilted sligthly to get a better look from a diffrent angle. The middle head feined indiffrence, while the right most head pinned back it's ears and snarled in open hostility. All three intimidating, and all three fully expecting the skinny man to cower before them like everyone (except Oddball) had before him.
Sniffling, Oddball rubbed at her puppy nose and snarled when asked what was wrong. "My little sister, that's what," she practicaly spat the term 'sister.' Obvioulsy not to thrilled with her young sibling.
"She can control the wind! She used it to flip the couch upside down in the living room and she wont give me back my spots! And Jak took her side!!!"
Little Oddball was crying again and was shaking like a leaf. And somewhere in the back of her mind she was seriously considering kicking the wall...or her sister if she could get past her big brother.

Of course, Scarecrow had noticed the large, fanged creature on his way into the alley...but he didn't really care about its presence. Turning his eyes up to it, he smirked.
"Boo."
Then, turning his gaze back to Oddball....
"...Now, now. There, there...." Just then, a thought began to form in his mind...an idea. His smirk twisted further.
"...There, there."
Deliberately, he bent down, allowing his collarbone to be seen in the opening of his shirt and jacket. Standing out on the skin was a large, dark spot - a bruise, and a nasty one at that.

Three pairs of eyes widdened at Scarecrow's smirk. Deciding that this creature wasn't going to supply any entertainment, two of the heads lowered back to the ground to snooze while the right most head kept vigil.
Whipping at her tears, Oddball's ears perked towards Scarecrow, allowing herself to calm down and relax. Looking up at him with trusting, innocent eyes. Said eyes widdening when she saw the bruise on his collarbone.
In whispered disbelief, she asked, "Dr. Crane? Where'd you get that spot?"

"Spot?" He feigned ignorance, looking down at himself.
"What spot?"
Somewhere in his twisted mind, Scarecrow was contemplating this new plan. So easy to pull strings sometimes...so easy.
He rested his hands on his hips.

Lifting a hand tentatively, Oddball slowly reached towards the bruise, stopping just short of touching the skin. "Th..that spot..."
Her eyes were round as dinner plates and she appeared to be holding her breath.

"Oh...that...."
Still feigning a sense of disdain, he shrugged. "It's nothing. I gave it to myself on...accident...I've had much bigger spots than this...."
Scarecrow, you can't possibly -
ICHABOD. SHH. The girl could be useful...we both know this. And if we have something that she wants....
Scarecrow put on a look of mock puzzlement.
"...Why?"

Oddball may have been a nutter, but she was by no means stupid. Her ears perked forward atop her head as her whip like tail began to wag excitedly. Her brain was working over time as she digested every word he said.
He GAVE it to himself? Accidentaly, but still, he can do that?...and he's had BIGGER spots? If he can give himself spots then.... It was then that her mind came to a screeching halt as her eyes grew even wider.
"Could...could you, maybe...give me...me some spots...too?" she asked, pointing to herself as hope shown brightly in her baby blue eyes.

"...Why, of course I can...." Scarecrow spoke in a sly, shifty tone - untrustworthy to almost anyone. Still...he knew that he could speak however he wanted to to Oddball.
Oddball TRUSTED him.
"But it takes a while before they grow in...and I'll need to test to see if it works first. That is...."
A long pause - he straightened up to his full six feet, cracking his neck.
"If you are sure...."

"I'm sure, I'm sure!!" cheered Oddball as she jumped up and down merrily. Her tial wagged furioulsy as she clamped her small frame to his waist in a fierce hug. She was just a puppy after all. And this teen, her seeming idol, was going to grant her most heart felt wish. To have spots!
At Oddballs happy squeal, the right most head of Cerberus nudged his brothers. With all three heads raised and turned towards their mistress and her companion.
They watched the scene warily, not liking the tone the boy was taking with little Oddball. A low growl rumbled from deep in their throats in warning.

"...Very well, then, Oddball."
Grinning a lopsided grin and patting her back, Scarecrow gave a little chuckle....
CRACK.
In a flash, he was out of her arms, and bony knuckles had connected hard with Oddball's shoulder.

With a loud bark of bain, Oddball stumbled backyards a few steps as she clutched at her now tender shoulder. New tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she whimpered up at Scarecrow.
She'd never been struck before in her life! ShoeBandit didn't believe in physical punishments, not that Oddball ever really did anything to warrent a punishment. And her big brother Jak wouldn't hurt a fly that didn't threaten his family first. Neadless to say, her mind was franticaly trying to wrap around the concept of being hit, and by her favorite person no less!
Hearing the loud sound of flesh on fur, coupled with Oddball's wimpers of pain, Cerberus quickly rose to their feet. Snarling viciously, they were fully prefared to put an end to whatever had caused their mistress such pain.
The only thing keeping them from killing on the spot was the fact that they couldn't fit in the alley way that Oddball had chosen as her hiding spot. So they stood at the entrance, snarling and barking as three heads worked at how to get into the alley where Oddball was.

Rubbing at his knuckles, Scarecrow grinned down at Oddball, venturing a glance up at the snarling beast behind him. Staring it right in the eyes (one pair of them, anyhow), he winked, tapping a spidery finger to his lips in a 'hush' gesture.
He then offered down a hand to help Oddball up.
"Pardon me if that hurt...I have to hit hard enough if we're going to expect it to work...."

Oddball sniffled slightly, but took the offered hand. Once on her feet again, she whipped at her tears and gave Scarecrow a watery smile. "It's ok," she said as a couple of tears escaped her notice. "It didn't hurt all that much anyways." A blatent lie, as her tail was tucked firmly between her legs and her ears were drooping patheticaly. But that's just how Oddball is.
Hearing the snarls and barks from Cerberus, she rounded on her three headed dog and barked at him herself. "Quite you three!! You'll wake up all of Traverse! They already don't like you for some reason, and if you wake them up, they'll come here. And if they come here, then where will we eat our ice cream?"
All three heads drew back slightly at the scolding. They couldn't understand their young mistress. First she was upset by her family, then she was happy to see this...boy, then he hit her and made her cry, now she's yelling at them about ice cream?
Girls all three scoffed, resuming there spot of relaxation with an eye roll. The right most head staying by the entrance of the alley just to make sure Oddball was really ok.
