Okay, so I have this friend that I want to adopt when I'm 18 because her parents are sick. Her step dad thinks he can touch her in place that is WRONG to touch anyone. Her mom is stupid and doesn't believe her, ever. There is WAY more to the story, but I don't want to go into anymore.
I just want to know if I can adopt her when I'm 18 if I take this to court. If I tell the court everything her parents do to her.
Also, is this a good idea?

Say goodbye to all this... does your friend have any way of supporting herself like a job that makes some good money or something like that. mybe your friend can be declared an independant and get out of the mess shes in. Your mother could also adopt her instead of you. just some thoughts.
...and hello... .....to oblivion!

[Glitter.Poptart] She is 17 and I do. My mom would help me take care of her. If she's seventeen, couldn't she just get emancipated? Aren't there even people who move out at that age now-a-days? sweatdrop I wish you and her the best of luck with this situation, though.

Well when you are 17 your parents have a say in if you can leave the house or not.
No she doesn't have a job so she couldn't support herself. My mom could adopt her, but I'm fixing to leave my house and she could just come with me. It would be easyer for her.
Thank you for the luck. We are going to need it.

That might have some bearing on this.

I think her best bet would to get emancipated, which is where she's pretty much a legal adult, and then to have her move in with you as a roommate.

Also, in the emancipation thing, she's legally responsible for herself, in the Adoption thing, you're legally responsible for her. SHe'd be your kid. Which would you rather be: her mother, or her roommate? Besides, if she was going to be adopted, the parents would have to have their parental rights terminated. Because of your ages, emancipation would be much easier, legally.

Do it. Seriously, do it. Or figure out some way to get her out, garunteed. It's the best thing for her, and if you can support you both, that's great. But from her point of view, any possible way to get out is like the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't think of words to properly describe how completly wonderful being free forever of a household like that would be. Any way you can get her out will help her so much. She's 17, you'd think that the remaining months wouldn't be too much to endure? They are. They're the hardest ones. I've been in the remaining few months in my house for a good 2 years, and I've just about given up getting out at all. Soo whether you adopt her or she gets emancipated, it could be saving her life. <33333 =D Tell her a random internet girl empathizes for her situation like woah, and I hope everything works out. Captain Kabuki, we love you!
I had a friend who was emancipated at 15. She really regrets it now, but because she shouldn't have done it to start with. Your friend however, sounds like she should most definately do it. When do you guys need parents until? 18 or 21? I know drinking age was 21, but I don't know for legal adulthood.
If it comes down to it, she should run away to your place. Anything to get out of the situation, from what I can see.
