It'd been a fairly quiet day on Sugar Hill road. Perhaps the sound of children giggling could be here and there. Other than that, it was just peace and quiet...
Of course, in Gaia, nothing like that lasts for very long.
"Julia! Celina!" A rather disgruntled cat-like woman was jogging down the road. Aiko ran her hands through her bangs. Never before had she lost any of her children like this. She swore that they were right behind her! She heard of children dissapearing if you turned your back for even a split second, but this was rediculous.
Long silvery hair bounding and auburn eyes looking left and right, a girl looking roughly about twelve years of age followed Aiko, though on the opposite side of the street. She called the same two names every now and then. Paine had only come along as she wanted to explore the Isle de Gambino more. Never had, really. The family lived in Durem and were rarely on this side of Gaia, sans picnics on the beech and while traveling over it to the Isle de Soler to visit Jayde and her bunch.
Boy was she getting that, now, searching for her two lost siblings.

It was that time again. The monthly Satourne household girls-only shopping trip. DS looked forward to it herself, as it was one of the only chances she really had to spend time with her girls as a group, instead of individually or as an entire family. So many were at tender ages too, and others needed attention. Instituting it was one of the best decisions she had ever made.
Ying skipped along merrily, holding one of Rinsei's hands as well as one of Yeine's. Prana was lagging behind, walking with DS, and her stalker, as she had taken to calling Tsavorite, was keeping to the trees where she belonged. The sun was shining, which not only made her happy but made the Fiend miserable. And it was shopping day! What could be better?
Tsavorite could think of several things that could be better. Rather than discuss any, however, she kept to the shadows of the trees. Until, however, a pair of giggling girls an past her at warp speed. They looked like easy prey. Carefully Tsavorite slinked after them, taking care not to be seen. Not yet.
Back where the action was, Yeine heard someone calling and turned, furry ears twitching slightly. "I heard something."
"Really?" Pausing, Ying listened as well, and nodded after a few seconds. "Me too. Hello!" she called, looking around. "Who's there?"

Ears twitching behind her to pick up the sound before she turned around, the young woman looked rather relieved that she'd caught someone's attention. Aiko muttered a few thanks to whatever powers that be in several languages before dashing over to the group. Her hair was frazzled, and she looked almost paper white she was so pale.
She recognized Ying and Yeine, and she smiled as warmly as she could have under the current circumstances. Nodding, she affirmed she remembered them before spitting out her phlight.
"I was house hunting in the area when two of my girls dashed off. Both small." She held her hand out to about two and a half feet. "One skunk girl about this big, Julia. Deep purple hair, bright eyes." Here, she lifted her hand a bit taller. "One Jumi girl about this big, Celina. Silver haired, prettiest gold eyes I've seen." She then doubled over, holding herself up by setting her hands on her knees. "I've been looking everywhere for them."
Seeing her guardian talking to a group of people, Paine made her way over to them, standing near Aiko, but still looking around.

"Aiko-san!" Ying bounced excitedly but remained in her place, as the familiar woman explained her trouble. "Oh, your core emerged! How wonderful! She sounds so prtty!"
Yeine nudged Ying in the ribs to get her attention. "Ying, Miss Aiko said that her children were missing. Shouldn't we help?"
"Missing? Oh no! We have to do something!" Putting her hands to her mouth, Ying looked around frantically. What if something happened? Especially to the Jumi girl, it wasn't safe all alone...
Rinsei nodded silently. They would help. She didn't know the woman, but Ying and Yeine seemed to, and that was good enough for her.

Aiko looked up from her doubled over position and smiled as best she could, still trying to catch her breath. Usually the hanyou wouldn't be so winded from running around like this -- she's been through rougher times. However, panic was steadily descending upon her, as it would with any mother.
"Arigatou..."
Paine looked at her guardian, then set a hand on her shoulder as she looked back at the group.
"We thought we saw them running this way. We don't have the slightest idea where they'd run off to, really."
~~~
"Julia, keep up!" Celina said as she turned around, hands on her hips as she waited for her sibling to catch up. "We'll never get to the water if you're gunna be slow!"
Julia trotted along, ducking in and out of trees. She was panting slightly, tired. They'd been running quite a ways from the downtown area, where Aiko had taken them.
Earlier that day, when Aiko announced that she was heading over toward the Isle de Gambino, the girls thought that they were going to be visiting the most distant of the Tenoh family, a siren that had bonded with Aiko by the name of Myra who lived along the sunny beaches. Every now and again, the family would picnic up there. The girls were especially fond of Myra -- the siren naturally spoke in couplets and would sing to the family sometimes. Naturally, they were excited to be seeing her again.
"Not gunna be slow," panted Julia as she caught up, leaning against a tree as she looked around.
Celina did the same, blinking her golden eyes.
"I think it's... this way." Taking Julia by the hand, the girls started walking again, deeper through the trees and toward, well, the general direction of the shoreline that they'd spied on the horizon.
"This way, this way."
"I see. We'll work better if we split up," DS decided, thinking how to best use all of the people they were provided. "Ying, could you and Yeine accompany... this lovely lady, and head back towards the house? Rinsei, you and Prana come with me and... Aiko-san, was it?" The plan was risky, especially sending a bunch of kids off by themselves, but Yeine was responsible and Ying was old enough to act in an emergency. And if each group had a Jumi, that might help them find this missing Jumi faster.
Ying quickly saw the brilliance of DS's plan and nodded. "C'mon, the house is this way!" she waved, headed back where they had come from.
DS nodded. "Don't worry. We'll find them.
~~~
And there they were. Perfect prey, two little girls who were probably already in big trouble. Tsavorite would have grinned if she had a mouth. Instead she simply folded her hands and stayed in the shadow of the trees, watching to see what the children would do. The opportunity had presented itself. All that remained was to properly use it.

"Hai, Aiko desu." And if it wasn't aparent that this woman was at least some what Japanese, she bowed deeply. "Dozo yoroshiku onegaishimasu." Standing, she held one hand out to Paine. "And this is Paine."
Likewise, the girl bowed slightly, though not quite Japanese had obviously lived with the cat woman for long enough to pick up at least some habits.
"Mm."
"Domo arigatou gozaimasu."
~~~
The girls, hand in hand, broke out on the opposite side of the clearing to find... another road and more houses and more trees. There was a sharp outtake of breath as their shoulder slumped at the same time.
Julia looked at Celina with her eyebrows drawn up in a rather pitiful look, almost as if saying "we're NEVER gunna get there." However, the young skunk girl lacked real words to express her feelings of doubt.
Luckily enough, Celina was a bright enough girl to figure out what was being said.
"But the waster was down this way, wasn't it?"
"Wasn't it?"
Offering a slight bow in return, DS gestured towards herself. "I'm DS. This is Prana," she continued, putting one hand on the taller girl with the bear hat. "And this is Rinsei." Her other hand brushed the top of the shorter Jumi girl's head. "You seem to have already met Ying and Yeine."
"Excuse me," Prana interjected softly, "but if we want to find them, we should start looking." Her hands were clinging each other tightly, as the thought of being lost in unfamiliar territory made her nervous. She still wasn't used to the land herself, and was glad, just a bit, that Aunty DS let her stay with her and Rinsei, instead of sending her off alone.
~~~
Slipping through the shadows, Tsavorite slipped behind a tree. Then, when she hoped the girls were looking, she began to phase through it. She wasn't quite used to it yet, so the process took some doing, especially considering that the tree was quite a bit thicker from the wall. But when she began to emerge, ghost-like, from the visible side of the tree, she felt that the extra effort was worth it.
Just to make sure she had their attention, she projected a ghostly noise. Oooooooooooo...

Aiko looked so releaved that she had someone to help her. Usually she was cool headed when it came to crisis situations, but this one took the cake in her book.
"I can't express how thankful I am," Aiko stated as she started moving off in her assigned direction.
"Right," Paine interjected quickly as Aiko started babbeling. The young girl moved off in the opposite direction. Splitting up was the best idea yet. "We'll yell if we find anything."
~~~
Celina was about to start moving with Julia in tow when she stopped short.
"... did you hear that?"
"Hear that?" Julia echoed, then looked about. The skunk girl jumped a mile when Celina screamed and clung to her arm, pointing at the ghostly figure that had come through the tree.
"EEEEEEK! What's that?"
"What's that, what's that?"
"GHOST! Run!" Only, neither girl did; they were rooted in place clinging to each other out of fear.
