User Image The sound of slow moving water could be heard by those nearby. The sun was shining on the clear surface. A log could be seen floating down river. It was mostly tan on one side with brown fuzz above it. The rest was a of bark color.

T
he log was the first thing the lion could remember. Half of his body was draped upon it, he had enough strength to do that, but that it. He wouldn't last much longer if he didn't get to shore, didn't get to the bank. But the world was slowly blinking in and out of focus. His golden gaze becoming cloudy and fogged over. A small whimper/growl escaped his throat, hoping someone could do something.

He welcomed the cold darkness as it engulfed him once more. The log drifted closed to the muddy banks, one end lodging itself into the muck.

Silver-circled eyes roamed the land in a calm, curious manner. Red-orange eyes blinking back tears as an overwhelming sadness clouded her brain. As quickly as it had come it fluttered away, and once again she was trapt in her lonely solidtude. The brown tuft of fur overhanging her forehead, blocking her eyes, was shook back into place. Her small paws placed carefully one in front of the other, her body heading for the river bank.

The sound of the water was soothing, and she was able to fill her whole mind with the sound and thoughts did not seem to enter, seem to bother. It was a wonderful feeling, she did not like thinking of her past. Half of it she understood, and bits and pieces were broken and replaced. Slowly her past was crumbling, replaced with an alternative reality.

As the river bank came into view the first thing in Aushi's feild of vision was the log. To be more exact; the being resting upon this log. A soggy image of what seemed to be a member of her own species. A sharp breath filled her lungs and her pace quickened. "H-hello?" Rang out her timid voice, unsure if this creature was living or not.

He could hear her voice as if it was coming down a long cave, distant, but no echo. One ear twitched slightly as he tried to grasp at consiousness again, but it was an upriver swim through the darkness. A low growl escaped his throat, trying to shake the tight grip that death wanted trap him in. Fragmented words that seemed to be like, my head, were mumbled low and almost inaudible.

There was light at the far end of this dark tunnel and he felt like he was clawing his way towards it. One eye peeked open slowly and caught sight of a young lioness. She seemed to far away, but he needed help and she was the only one he had seen before shutting his eyes again.
"Help..."

Well this certainly was a bit terrifying! He wasn't dead, but Aushi could tell there was something wrong with him. He was dying! She'd never met a dying lion before, but there was a first for everything.

help...

The word whispered across her mind, caressing it and sending chills down her spine. She splashed slightly into the water and much, and with out much thought she quickly took a mouthful of his mane in her mouth and tugged back, slightly hard. She began to cough and let go quickly; she was too little to pull. "It's alright, mister.." She was trying to calm herself more than she was trying to calm him.

She suddenly had a thought and moved around behind him. With her head butted up against his back she began to push as hard as she could, groaning with the effort. After a few minutes she was starting to move his body toward the drier part of the bank. True to her namesake; tree of life.

Her movement spurred him forward, trying to help her with his great weight, pulling himself further upon the bank. His thoughts moved to how terrible he must look before it fluttered over to the chill he was feeling on his skin. Even close sitting on the fence between life and death he turned his head slightly and flashed her a flirting smile. "Ca-care t-t-t-to warm me up-p-p-p," he asked.

He probably was indeed cold to the touch, but he was ever as always quite the flirt when a lady was present. His thoughts settled back on how he must look. He felt soggy, water-logged. His belly and left side were covered in mud from trying to get to dry land. There was blood that matted his copper brown mane. He didn't know if he had any injuries yet, but once life came back to him, he'd be able to tell a bit more.

She froze at his simple request and made a face. How was she supposed to do that? She coughed and looked around quickly, as if expecting some escape. She'd gotten herself into this mess though, so she couldn't stop until she was finished cleaning it up. She clambored on top of him, small as she was, and sprawled out. She was trying to warm him with her own body, though she knew it probably looked funny and pathetic.

She looked to the sky quickly, glad to see that it was sunny out. "Like this? What happened mister?" He should stay away... right? When in this poor a condition... don't let the other go to sleep. She vaguely remembered some one or another telling her that advice.

He tried to chuckle but it turned into a sharp cough that shook the young adult on his back. This probably did look ridiculous, but all he knew was that to combat cold there needed to be heat. Her warm fur and the sun would help him with that. How he could find humor in this was beyond his mind, he must be going insane.

He had his front paws beneath his chin, supporting the weight of his head. His back legs were sprawled out behind him. He looked like a rug on the ground, but he was too weak to move any further. Plus, he didn't want to knock her off of him.

The memories were all foggy, a haze that he couldn't grasp at, like trying to hold water in your hand. He closed his eyes tightly and bits came back.
"I hit my head on something. A rock or a tree. Something hard. Laughter. Darkness. Cold and wet. The log. This is where my memories start."

He needed to get his bearings. He didn't know how far down river he was. He didn't know where he was infact.
"Where am I, lovely?"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 17, 2006 1:43 pm

Curious and curiouser! The rock must have jarred his memories. "Aushi. Call me Aushi, not lovely." She had an almost demanding tone in her voice, if only because she was a little weirded out. She'd never been called lovely before.

"I know not the name of these lands, just that the big-rock pride is to the north-east." She was speaking of the pridelands, known for the large pride rock that the lands surrounded. She was very ignorant of the prides surrounding these lands, though.

She was sorry she could not tell him anything more about the lands. "I apologize, I have traveled so long.." A long intake of breath, the flash of sadness. Calm returning. "Many days, many moons. I have turned all about and gone this way and that... foolish not to track where I have been and more foolish not to have planned out where I would go." She was on her naming quest, truth be told. The name she bore now would not be the name she owned when she was an adult.

He meant to close his eyes only briefly, but they didn't seem to open. They felt so heavy. "Aushi. Such a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He tried to pull up what his name was. Nothing came. His ears pinned back slightly at the frustration he was feeling. His mind was still racing around in circles from how cold he felt, to how he looked, to her, and other fleeting thoughts.

"I can't say I can give myself a name. You could say I took to water well, I guess." He still felt so tired, but not as cold as he had started off to be. His mane had fallen across his eye and he was too lazy to move it back. "For now, we can call me Sumilyth." It meant "water child." An appropriate name for where he was found and his behavior.

He laughed-coughed again.
"You know. Life doesn't always have to be planned out. Sometimes, you have to form it to what you want. Other times, you go where the wind takes you, lovel... I mean, Aushi."

In a moment of silliness she scoffed playfully. "I bet that's what you say to all the girls who save you from drowning." Her tail flicked, eyes shutting half way. What should she keep talking about? Conversation was good, it would keep him up.

His advice was good though, she was glad to think that life could be directionless sometimes. "Thank you Sumi." Shortening names was always much cuter, so she hoped the adult would not mind. "Perhaps like the trees I should sometimes bend to the wind." But if the wind pushed too hard, she could snap... just like a tree.

He lifted his head a bit and looked back at her with a weak smile. "I just say that to the sweetest ones. You're the only one," he said with a playful wink. He laid his head back down, though not all that gentle. He had to stay awake.

"Thank you for what? Life is how you make it. And wherever it takes you, make sure it doesn't harm you. Advice someone had told me. Though I don't remember that someone now." Would he ever remember anyone? She sighed and kneaded his paws on the ground a bit, getting the blood flowing more.

He winced slightly as the pain from a cut across his belly made itself known. Now how on earth did he get that? He turned his head slightly. It was already clotted, but the skin stretching taught made it a very painful presence. That probably explained why he felt so weak and tired.
"Well, isn't that a nice surprise," Sumilyth remarked at the discovery.
