It wasn't often that Juke stayed by the watering hole for longer than needed. On your average day, he was in and out, just like every other creature, taking a quick drink and going on his merry little way. However, there he sat, tail flicking, watching the current intently. Perhaps it was his freshly filled belly that had drove him lazily to the bank for a nice little digestive rest, or perhaps it was purely morbid curiosity? After all, this particular water hole was notrious all through out the rouge lands for its population of crocodiles and of their brash nature. It was all too often that a youngster zebra dropped his gaurd and ended his day in the jaws of the great lizards.

Situated just far away enough as to not put himself in any threat, the steely male focused on the water's song. Because he truely never spent time by any sort of water edge, he never actually bothered to listen to its rhythm. There was a sad note in all of this, as he rather enjoyed the song that the water hole was weaving. It was one of great tragedy, dramatic in all its glorious sparkle. The current beat out a pattern far different from the familiar winds and grasses, and the aquatic creatures added a melody that was almost alien to Juke's ears. It was an entirely new experiance for him, and all his senses were keen on tuning in. So keen, in fact, that he hardley moved as he listened, which was a rarity indeed. The only motion his body conveyed was that of his tail, which steadily thumped on the moist dirt to the beat, as it did with every nature song the lion listened to.

Layilme on the other hand ... hadn't managed to catch anything much bigger than rabbits and the like for the past few days. Usually she was an ok hunter even by herself but this just wasn't her week.

So she looked just a bit thinner and worn than usual as she padded toward that water hole. She'd stopped here before and maybe because of the familiarity she wasn't paying much attention. But in any case, she failed to notice the male until she was nearly on top of him and stopped with a soft, startled sound. "Ah ... sorry didn't know anyone else was here," she said, smiling apologetically as she moved to step around him.

A new, irregular beat in comparison to the slow and steady current entered the song of the day. Juke's head turned slightly, just in time to see the night sky lioness as she nearly collided with him. Were he a more independant creature, and one with little manners, he would've had something to say about the event. However, Juke was more of a passifist than a fighter, and shrugged her silly mistake off. "You're fine." It was his way of say, 'no problem, buddy', when he was in a spacey mood. His gaze fell back upon the water, his eyes going far away, as if there were something just below the surface that could reach out and touch him from the great length at which he sat. With a little shake, however, he quickly dropped the gaze and looked politely back at the stranger. "I'm Juke." he offered his name, but not wanting to be pushy, allowed her to do with it as she wished.

She paused, glancing back at him ... looking just a bit surprised at the sudden introduction. In all honesty, she was a little out of it herself at the moment. She nodded slighty and bent to take a short drink before replying. "I'm Layilme. Sorry again about nearly running over you," she said with a little bob of her dark head.

She really wouldn't have blamed him for swatting at her or something but he hadn't, and she was glad of it.

The male shook his head kindly and laughed. "The music is far too merry by the water for me to be mad." His statement was said as if everyone could hear the music, and as if it were the life force of all living things. Surely, such a lioness as she would've heard it before?Juke dipped his maw politely. "Nice to meet you, Layilme. Are you a rogue?" He couldn't actually remember seeing her about the rogue lands before, and he traveled the entire expanse of it very often. He was bound to run into a good portion of the rogues at least once on his travels, so logically, it could be assumed that this cat belonged to a pride.

Music...? She blinked slightly, not understanding. But he was still talking so she didn't ask questions at the moment. "I am," she replied, smiling a bit. Ears rotated toward him, and the tip of her tail flicked. "I'm just usually about more at night than during the day. Her smile turned more wry as she glanced back over her own pelt. "I sort of blend in more then..."

Juke smiled brightly. "Yes, I can see that." He chuckled a little, looking at the bright white markings on her rump. Yes, she did look quite like the night sky, didn't she? "I suppose I don't blend with the night quite well. I... shimmer. Sometimes. If there's a full moon." Then again, he didn't blend with the day either, now did he? What he /did/ blend with was water, which was quite ironic as he very rarely spent his time by it. Perhaps that was a mistake on his part, eh? With a coat like sea water and a love for the current's song, he'd fit in at the beach far better than in the savannah.

"But that's cool, too," she replied brighting, head tilting just a bit. She sat, watching him, thinking that she'd like to see that sometime maybe. Not that she was planning on following him around or anything like that.

In all actuality, the male had never considered his ghostley shimmer to be 'cool' at all. He had stuck out as a cub, and had done his best to avoid such situations since his maturity. It could be that such events had driven him to be the earlier riser he was today, as if he was awake for all the hours the sun graced the savannahs, he would not be awake when the pale moon took its throne.

"I'm not so sure. But thank you." His voice, as usually, was sing songy and on beat with the song, tail steadily keeping the time. It had never really taken any practice to do this, as he had been doing it his whole life it seemed.

Layil tilted her head to one side, not sure why he didn't like it. "Why not?" she asked after a moment. She hadn't really grown up with other cubs, and so had never been teased like that about her own coat. She knew it was unusual ... but nothing to be ashamed of.

"Dunno, really. It just... never struck me as special or anything." He shrugged, somewhat oddly perfectly in time with the song of the water. Suddenly, he felt the urge to push teh conversation off of him and his coat, and turn it to something far different. "So, Layilme, have you ever lived in a pride?" He had been thinking long about moving into one either before or after finding a mate, and was curious as to a pride lion's life, as he had never been a part of one in his life. It seemed so joyful to belong to something like that. A big family, wasn't it? A nice, big family, to be there for you when you need them. Yes, it did sound like a nice exsitence.

She shook her head at that though, seeing by his eager manner that she was about to disappoint him with her answer. "Sorry, but I haven't," she replied, tail flicking a bit. She'd wondered what it might be like as well but hadn't ever really ... made an effort to join any pride.

"Well, have you ever considered joinging one?" He cocked his head a little, trying to keep on the sbject. Recently, he had decided he would get as much information about the prides from as many lions, and even other creatures, as he could. If he wanted to join one, he had to make an informed decision as to which one. "Ever hear anything nice about any of them? I'm not sure which to attempt to join..." He knew that even if he particularly liked a pride, it didn't mean he would get in. That would alwas reman the king or queens decision.

Layil shook her head again though, smiling a bit sheepishly. "Haven't heard much about any of them, good or bad, actually. I tend to be a kind of a loner." As such, she hadn't met many other lions or other creatures at all ... much less chatted with them about prides or lack thereof.

"Oh, I see." He looked away for a while, staring into the current, listening to its gentle song. He would have to come here more often, he decided with a firm nod. Yes, far more often. Perhaps he could join a pride that was rich with the natural resource. Perhaps the swamp was the way to go? Who was to tell what the future would bring, though? The only thing Juke was currently aware of was the late hour in which he was out, and that he should start searching out a place to sleep. Standing, he bowed his head to the lioness in respect. "I must be going, as I have to find a nice place to rest tonight sometime soon if I'd like to sleep safely." He smiled kindly. "It was nice meeting you. Perhaps we shall see eachother again sometime."
