Kitengele's coat shone silver underneath the moonlight, her green eyes contemplative. Muscles rippled under her coat as she strode through the field. Her mind was peaceful and a smile lit across her lips as thoughts of her mate entered her mind. Ash had grown into a handsome and sensitive lion, and she was proud of how much more confident he was than when she met him. The difference was astounding and one might not even think it was the same lion.
A new urge had risen in her belly, however. She was an adult now and her maternal clock was ticking. For the most part, she was confident that Ash wanted cubs, but she had no idea how to broach the subject. Even more important than that... was she ready to be a mother?
Kit sighed. She had the body of an adult, but part of her still felt like a cub. Could she keep up with a family? Her father, her beloved father, had lost his own cub to two lions. Bile rose in the female's throat as she remembered Dhamisa. How long had it been? They were adults now, and she had last seen her as a cub... how was she doing? Was Dhamisa a mother? Kit didn't know that she had several nieces and a nephew from both of her siblings. She hadn't seen either of them in so long...
Feeling her spirits sinking, she shook off the thought. No, this was a happy time! She was in love, and in the land of her dreams.

Unlike Kit, worrying about potential motherhood, Janikiwiti was relishing his newfound fatherhood. Oh, sure, the cubs were little menaces, but how could he not love them? They were the embodiment of his and Moyo's love, and even thought 90% of the time they were pests... that 10% was bliss.
Still, every father needs a little escape once in a while, and tonight was Kiwi's night. The massive lion was stretched out in the soft grass, gazing up at the night sky. Lele always spoke about the mysteries and stories of the night sky, and after being around her so much, he was beginning to appreciate the stars and the moon even more. Each one seems to have a tale to tell, a past and a personality... he shook his head, chuckling. He was around Lele too much!
There was a rustle in the grass behind him and he swung his head around, lime green eyes bright and alert. The female seemed familiar, with her silver and purple fur... his eyes lit up and a smile broke out across his lips. "Hello, Kit!"

Kit's ears perked at the familiar voice and her eyes lit up as well as she saw the great male ahead of her. "Kiwi!" she said brightly, leaping forward excitedly. As soon as she landed by his side, she purred and pressed her forehead to his cheek with an additional n** at his ear.
She had so many questions for him! "How are you? How's Moyo? Has she had her cubs? How many? Are you enjoying being a father?"
What a stroke of luck! Kiwi was a new father and Kit was having conflicted feelings about becoming a mother. Hopefully he wouldn't become overwhelmed by her questions, but there were so many and she was so eager to know the answers!

"Hey, hey, slow down," Kiwi said with a laugh, rolling onto his side. "So many questions for one old, tired lion!" He winked, a soft purr rumbling from his throat. "I'm good, thanks, and so is Moyo, although our paws are tied up with the cubs... so yes, she's had the cubs! There are four altogether, three boys and one girl. Let's see... two of them, Auri - the girl, and Teke - one of the boys, are fairly gentle and kind. Kaikura is..." Kiwi frowned, trying to find out how to phrase it. "He's very much a boy and doesn't want much to do with our family, since we don't really... condone violence and such." He continued to frown, hoping that didn't make him and Moyo sound like stiff, boring parents.
"And then there's Tain, the one who doesn't let you sleep without one eye open. You never know when he's going to try and pull some prank. He's a good cub... he just needs some discipline. Not like I'm the right lion to give it to him!" he laughed.
"They can be a huge nuisance sometimes, sure, but I love 'em, and wouldn't give up being a father for anything." He tilted his head, raising a brow. "Why, Kit?"

Kit flustered slightly, scraping her paws at the ground. "Well, since we last met, I've... well, fallen in love." She let out a happy sigh, relaxing. "Oh, he's wonderful, Kiwi... so sweet and kind and gentle. His name is Ash, and... oh, he's perfect." A shy smile crept over her lips. "I'm sure I sound like a silly lovestruck cub, but he couldn't be more perfect in my eyes."
She hesitated. "So... we're thinking about starting a family, but I'm afraid of the commitment. Would I be a good mother? Ash says that I would be, but I'm so nervous about being responsible for another life, let alone several lives! What do you think, Kiwi? Did you feel this way? Am I just being ridiculous, or am I really not ready to be a mother?"

(I combined these posts into one, since they're short.)
Kiwi smiled as Kit described her new mate. "I don't think that's silly at all. When I met Moyo, I knew how perfect she was and knew that I needed her. Thank the gods it turned out well! And it sounds like it worked for you, too. Sometimes two souls are just meant to be, and we're lucky enough to have found our other halves."
As she voiced her fear, however, he furrowed his brows and frowned. "Well, are you and Ash truly, deeply in love?"
"Of course," Kit replied, surprised.
"And do you both want cubs?"
"Yes, we do," she said softly. "But are we ready for the responsibility?"
"Oh, Kit," Kiwi said gently. "If you and Ash are soul mates, and you want to start a family, then you are by all means ready to do so. It wasn't easy for me, either, at first. I'd spent my whole life traveling, and then all of a sudden I had this wonderful lioness that I loved, and for some reason, she adored me in return! Settling down is a strange feeling, but not a bad one. You, and your mate, will be so proud of the little creatures you bring into this world, and as soon as they arrive, all your fears will disappear, because you'll be happier than you ever were before."
He paused before adding, "And there's no room for fear within bliss."

Kit slid to her belly, pressed lightly against Kiwi. She took comfort in his presence and wise words, feeling as though he was somewhat of a father figure to her. With the gentle confidence in his voice, she closed her eyes, letting out a soft breath.
"You think so?" she asked once more, and when he replied with a nod, she smiled tentatively. "I know that Ash would be a good father, I just know he would..."
"You know what? We'll do it. Ash doesn't know that I was having doubts, and I don't want him to know, either. I've always tried to be strong for him, and I don't want to stop for something as silly as this." Leaning forward, she rasped her tongue over Kiwi's ear. "Thanks so much, Kiwi. You'll never know how much I appreciate your advice."
She rose to her paws, shaking off. "I should get back to Ash... I told him I was going for a walk, and I'm sure I've been gone longer than he was expecting. I don't want him to worry!" Offering him a sincere, warm smile, she flicked her tail. "Bye, Kiwi... maybe our cubs can play someday!"

"Good luck, Kit," he said, grinning. "You and Ash will have fine cubs and I know you'll raise them well. Don't worry - you'll be a fantastic mother, if you're anything as sensitive and kind with them as you are around me."
He chuckled. "Speaking of which, Moyo will probably want me back. She gave me permission to take a break from the cubs, but if I leave her alone with them any longer, she'll have my tail!" His eyes sparkled with humour and he stood up, shaking himself off. "Back to the Pridelands, then?"
Kit nodded and so the two began to pad away, walking in a peaceful silence.
