Well just to start off i love final fantasy everyone i have played, but it's one of friends that doesn't like 7, he like dirge of cerberus, i liked it too, because Vincent is my fav from 7, so i ask you, can you like final fantasy and not like 7, even though i would say no you can't.

of course you can, there is more to final fantasy than just 7, I would say that you are less of a fan if you just like 7 but not the rest i dont agree with your friends opinion as 7 is my favorite as it is most peoples but he is still a fan

Haha, you should ask that in the Final Fantasy subforum of the Gaming forum. Youd get your just response.

I think you can but if someone brings up the games they've played and they don't say 7, I'm the kind of person that would say what rock did you live under.

I know of many that love FF but hated 7. Just like how you can love FF and hate 8, 9, 10, or 10-2, etc. I do think though you can't be a FF fan without at least trying the original games... you know... the ones before 7. pirate

i'm a major FF7 fan, but of course my answer would logically be no, you can still be consider a FF fan without liking ff7.....and I agree with amylin, I prefer for a ff fan, you have to at least play one of the pre-ff7 final fantasy games (ff1-ff6)

I can imagine that there are many Final Fantasy fans who have just not actually played the game of FF7. I think over time FF7 loses its lustre and people who have not played it in the past won't have that much of a desire to play it really.. As opposed to years back when there were a lot less games around and everyone was raving about it.
People should really give FF7 a go though if they haven't played it in the past, but have played other FF games wink Can't see how they wouldn't simply adore this amazing game biggrin

Because, despite FF7 being one of my favourite games;
It is not the best game in the world.
Being an FF fan only requires you to like three or more of the games in the series really, just like not every FF fan may like FF8 or FF10-2, not every fan will like 7.

And also, graphics have a big part of this since some people may want to play it, but are completely thrown off by how they're designed.
I know that's what is like with my older sister, we've been spoiled with the newer version of the games like Final Fantasy 8, 9, and such. I, on the other hand, don't really care what the animation looks like.... o.o
P.S. I agree with Amylin somewhat. Those were the birth stones of Final Fantasy, which reminds me, I should probably atleast finish 6, and 5 ( Hehe ninja )
Funnily enough, I'm timed between Final Fantasy VI and VII of being my favourite game. xD

Yes, I would say people that don't care for VII are FF fans. Personally, I'm a big fan of VII- I like the story, characters, some of the villains, and the great features of the game. While I like many of the other FFs as well, I don't see how you could penalize someone for liking one of those instead of VII...

It's possible. FF7 did have one of the most depressing story line compared to the rest.
