Darkness had set thickly upon the forest, a chill breeze whipping the branches against one another. In fact if it wasn't for her pain Sirena would have been fast asleep, curled in the den that she and River had discovered. However, now that her leg had started causing her pain she felt the need to stir.
Perhaps she would take a trip down to the stream and drink - if it wasn't frozen over by the time she got there.

Her body jerked slowly and moved out across the frost covered ground. She walked silently despite the limp but even in the pale moonlight the white fur on her mottled body was easily seen.

The tears that remained unshed in her eyes glittered too.

He huffed to himself, a demon upon the land wandered yet again. Something was calling him here, something...close. He could smell it, taste it, whatever it was. Something warm, something...living. Oh yes. He couldn't wait.
"Who calls me today...a demon? Or an angel..." he said with a cakle, a smirk painted upon his maw. Croanyl, yes, he was alive and living. None had silence him yet, none. His tail arched in a strange way, he saw something moving. A scent upon the wind. A wolf...even better, "A female..."

He got closer, stopped and smirked in her direction, an angel was placed before him perhaps? "Do they hurt...to hold them in?" he asked, grinning.

This might be more interesting then he thought.

She snapped from her trance, body stiffening as she rightened herself and turned ehr head to stare into the face of a strange looking wolf. A male no less.
For a moment she looked undecided and then she exhaled noisily, setting her paws firmly on the ground.

Ears swivvelled to face him and though she tried to act strong a well trained eye could see the quaking of her knees as she struggled to keep herself standing upright. The arthritic pain in her foreleg was becoming unbearable now that winter had set in - old age a curse. She had no tiem to age when her task was left incomplete.

Hurt? She questioned, her voice low and emotionless. What good will weeping do? Answer me that? Her jaw set and for a moment she looekd like she wanted to say more. Instead she simply stood. Staring into his eyes as if she were losing herself in their depths.

Croanyl smirked, this female seemed so lost. He loved it, perhaps she had a hidden use for him to use as well? Would be simply perfect if she did. "Weeping can relieve the soul, though I d not relieving mine...my suffering is brought upon others who deserve such torment...what creature has tormented you so into relieving your soul hmmm?"
He flicked his tail to the side. She was a strange one, but even teh strange ones served their purpose in the end.

Her eyes narrowed, and stayed that way as she glared at him. There was something about this male that sent prickles of suspicion down her spine. He spoke strangely and in a way that showed he could be dangerous. She could not let her guard down lest she put herself in grave danger.
If something did occur then River was only a little way away.

You speak as if you know what lingers in my mind. She replied, her voice as cold and untrusting as stone. As if you know what pains my shattered heart.

Her tail curled upwards slightly then and she held firm, trying to use her mind to pour strength into her legs that were trembling from cold and agony.

Us old wolves have suffered the world far longer than you young ones. Do not pretend you understand the ache of my aged bones. The state of her physical being worried her though. Winter had set in, her arthritus had hit her hard and now that she was so close to her goal it seemed she would not be capable of dealing the finishing blow.

And if her son lived in a large pack then she would need help. Help that consisted of more than just young River.

 Could this male possibly...?

No. No. She would not allow this stranger to help her. Never. And yet at the same time Sirena was sorely tempted. He was young, strong and held a killing instinct that would prove useful. Perhaps if she pulled the right strings then he could be persuaded to aid her.

"Young my dear? Do not let my exterior tell you such lies....I am from a pack from afar, I dealt a blow that dessimated the valley...and I tried again, when those foolish young wolfess' and males tried to begin it again, unfortunately, 4 have gotten away...I cannot claim that valley for myself until both lay dead before me...do not tell me I am young, and don't know how suffering feels...everything I once had, had been stripped away from my clutches. Once I get them within my reach again...this time, I will not let go..." he said with an annoyed growl.
Females, they thought they knew everything.

"I will never allow my bones to wither away...until my deed is done, and I feel blood on my tongue again..." he grinned, fire in his cold, white eyes as he flicked his tail.

Yes, he could see it now...he'd be the guardian then, get the strength, the powers back, then, then he'd make his army...and blood would again paint the ground and sky.

She flinched and gave a low growl, turning to face him. There was frustration in her face now, but it was guarded. She did not want to push this one too hard, not when she was weakened.
It was as she peered into his eyes, those fiery cold eyes that seemed to burn with some intense, heat - something akin to pressing your nose against fresh ice. There was something tainted about this wolf, something that reminded her of herself.

She growled again and drew her ears forth, trying her best to look imposing. She was indeed a large female, but with age had came a ganglyness. Her form was no longer filled out as it should have been and her ribs poked out from beneath her pelt.

You and I...we are alike. There was a strange glint in her eyes, You seek revenge...so do I. Her ears flicked and she turned so that her face was in profile to him, showing off a long, elegant muzzle.

You have a bloodlust, don't you, friend? She smiled and teeth glinted, what would you say if I told you I could help you ease that lust? What if I told you I knew of a wolf who needs to be...seen too.

Croanyl opened his mouth in a sadistic toothy grin as he began listening to her speak. His tail thumped the ground as his eyes, his white eyes were fixated upon her muzzle. He could taste it already, after this blood, he'd be stronger, perhaps...
Maybe after this, he could try to go with the dark legend of his valley...

Though, this would be the first step.

"I'd say it appeals to me...my dear..." he spoke in a manner that was like sadistic gentleness. She was like him, they were almost one..well, almost, though, in his opinion, he was better, he was darkness after all. "Who and why...I'd need to know if my thirst is to be quenched..."

Yes, blood, he needed it soo badly now that she had spoken of it.

Good, very good. She had him in her clutches. All she need do now was feed him a few lies based on truths and he would be hers to command. She absorbed his powerful form, her eyes glinting with malice as she imagined him at her side. He would be like a bodyguard, powerful and destructive.
If she did not depise males so, she might have considered him an ally. Now he was just a tool to be used.

I am glad you are interested. She replied almost daintily. I shall tell you more. And as she caught scent of his curiosity she felt a thrum of excitement flow down the length of her old body. She almost felt young again, almost.

There is a wolf I know of, a terrible and grotesque creature who has lived too long in sin. He stole something very important from me and took flight. I have been searching for him for a long time now, in vengeance. Yet time has caught up with me. I am old and soon my spirit will want to rest. If I faced such a powerful monster now then I would surely meet death at his jaws. She smiled then, That is why I ask of your service. You are strong and brilliant. You have the desire and the experience, you can help me better than any other wolf in this forest. She was generous with her flattery.

If you wish to help, you will get to fight a great battle, worthy of legends! You will spill wolf blood and you will be honoured for your strength. She would not tell him of the other wolves she seeked to destroy. Not until the wolf had seen to Gizmo. For he was the only one she knew the location of. Little did she know that her youngest son did not meet such expectations. That the battle would be nothing of what she spoke. Gizmo was a pacifist, a runt, he would be no more a match for Croanyl as he would be for a mouse.

So, what do you say? She asked, If you agree to this than I will lead you to him.

Croanyl flicked his tail, ears erect listening to every word she spoke from her maw. She seemed to be egging him on a bit, but what did he care/ Blood was blood, if she did not prove true to her word, as she said, to a monster and beast, she would fall, he could kill her if he wished, yet vengeance for another seemed so much more enticing. "How long would it take...I am part of a...pack, somewhat, she'd want to know where I am..." he spoke of the she-wolf that had carried the blue-baffoons scent upon her.
Stupid girl with the bright yellow eyes, yes, one day she would fall, that, or be at his side, not the other way around.

"Honored? No." he spoke sternly, a glint in his white eyes, "Feared...I want to be feared, not honored..." he took a step closer to her, grinned, he could even taste her blood already...or was that the future blood of this other one.

"Even you could understand that...couldn't you?"

He huffed, snorted even, raised a brow, "Lead me? We walk together, if blood calls, the death bell shall ring, and I will be its keeper, I will not be led, guided...not led."

 He hated following others sometime.

She watched him with great interest, finding that he evoked more than one emotion in her. The first came admiration that a male could be so...noble? Fighting for a course worth fighting for instead of the petty squabbles such as those the rest of the brethren dwelled in. But there was fear too, for there was something in his eyes quite mad, quite evil.
Sirena was not truly evil, though she was insane. But even her aged eyes could see this wolf operate don a level beyond her. She'd have to be careful around him, keep him on a tight lead.

In fearing you they will, in a way, honour you. King amongst kings. She replied giving a small bow of her nose. I can understand that, yes.

Then slowly she backed up and gave him a look that said she understood. Give me a few days, listen for my call. Then we will walk together. And with that she rose her head and released a short but haunting howl. When it had faded into the darkness she returned her gaze upon the white wolf. Remember my call well, for we will need it to bring us together. She gave a short bow of her head and turned, dissapearing into the trees.

Little did she know that her lies, her exaggerations, had just sealed her fate.

Croanyl watched with wide white eyes, his gray coat standing out form the mass of brown and green behind him, around him, beneath him, but nothing was as dark as the blackness of his heart and desires. He listened to her voice, her call, ears flickering with the sound, and he grinned. Yes, a new beginning...the darkness will return once more he mused in his mind.
"I will remember...only remember your part...if you do not call...I will find you, and satisfy my thirst with you..." he grinned satanically and watched her disappear. He flicked his tail, turned around himself, and padded towards his 'home' within his 'pack.'

"A king among kings? No one has any idea....not yet..."
