This is the Dreaming thread for Iria Cereus. Please do not enter if you are not Iria or Icelus. Thank you!

Some time after Iria fell asleep, her thoughts would begin to coalesce -- forming the shape of a temple, elegant, beautifully kept. The floor was covered in wooden mats, and each block of the paper screens was painted in delightful miniatures, scenes from dreams.

Upon closer inspection, these miniature scenes would move, playing out countless numbers of dreams as each panel in the temple was furnished with these tiny paintings.

The scent of clean linen and washwater filled the temple -- along with something that, though the girl would not recognize it, would be vaguely comforting.

Iria was quite certain she had never been here before, not even in her wildest dreams. Her WILDEST dream involved the Alamo, a volcano, and the cast of the Brady Bunch. However, this was a completely different story.

She sighed and looked around. Somehow, the beautiful surroundings failed to impress.

"Alright. This is obviously a dream..." She said out loud but to no one in particular. "So I suppose there is a point to be made before I can leave."

Poor girl was not the type for sitting and basking in the majesty that was nature, dreams, or anything of the sort. What she required was a straight answer to why she was there and when she could leave. The little details did not concern her at this time.

"Hello? Is anyone here?"

Not one for a comfortable chat, are you?

The voice came from everywhere and nowhere all at once; quiet and mild as the god himself came from behind a folding screen, tall and slender, carrying a small tray laden with a delicate teapot and china cups.

I do hope you like tea.

Iria was completely calm, almost annoyingly so, as she heard the voice all around her. But as the being it was coming from solidified she turned and almost smiled. That was Iria. Never one to give a smile without it being earned. However, Icelus had to be given credit. Even a half smile was something when it came to Iria Cereus.

"Only if you've got the good stuff." She replied, making her way over to him. "I do hope my dreams didn't settle for the cheap stuff."

As if I would settle for cheap tea myself. said the god, mildly indignant, as he bent to set the tray down on the table, sweet-scented steam wafting up from the spout. A cheeky, presumptuous girl, you are. His long-fingered hands began to carefully set out the cups as he sat, his legs crossed calmly.

"You're not so bad yourself." She said with a smirk. A smirk! Oh so close to a smile. Just a little more. You're doing fine!

She sat down at a chair beside the table as he set it. However she did not move to help in any way. Hell, her dream. Her subconscious should set the table for her. It was the least it could do.

"So, my good sir, exactly what is it I am here for?" And finally the smile came as the smell of the tea reached her nose. It was a relaxed smile, closely followed by a sigh. She had lived such a high strung life. It was rare for her to just sit down and just have some tea. She made a mental note to do that more often once she had returned from her dream.

Icelus carefully poured her cup full of tea, and then his own, and eased himself to a seat, his long white tail curling through the bars of the chair's back.

You are one of my children -- even if only by half. The deity carefully stirred the small cup with a slender, delicate spoon. And so, this is an important part in your development. However, lacking a past beyond your birth, I cannot simply pretend, now can I? Icelus made a bit of a moue, unamused. And so, you are here with me. And I shall have to test you somehow, on my own.

Iria looked down at her tea, fingers curled around the cup. She was taking this all in. Her face shifted into several different thoughtful poses as she stared and took one sip of tea. It slide easily down her throat and she sighed happily once more. Just bliss. She liked this dream.

However...

"Did Lucifer have a test?" She didn't now much about Oneroi. Lucifer wasn't around much as he was out searching for eggs so there was no one around to explain things to her. And being only half of the species didn't clarify things either. This was her chance to ask questions and this time it was just between her and her subconscious. Though how was she to know her mind wasn't just making it all up? Oh well. She had tea. That didn't matter right now.

"I don't think of him as my father. I only recently found out, and not in the most graceful of ways. If he could pass a test, there is not doubt I can as well."

One white brow arched over clear blue eyes. Yes, your father was tested. Being the priest of Light, he had very little on his conscience to atone for. Icelus sipped his tea comfortably, watching the pale girl. I did not, of course, approve of his choice of mate... but what is done is done, as they say.

Besides... it is interesting to speak with one who sees from both perspectives, I should think -- human and priest, all at once.

She held back a laugh upon the 'little to atone for' part. Honestly, he didn't seem like a priest, much less the priest of light... Hell, she didn't either. Though she could always blame it on the fact she was only half.

But she raised an eyebrow at the comment about his choice of mate. She decided to be a good girl and wait until he was done speaking before saying anything.

"Well, I don't know what it's like to be a full blooded human or oneroi so I have no real basis of comparison. I would, however, like to ask if your disapproval was for his mate being male or his mate being human?"

She took another sip, not wanting to drink to fast and not savor the calming liquid.

Icelus leaned back slightly in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose. His mate is three things that makes him difficult to handle -- male, human, and FAR too young to bear children. Although I suppose by human standards, your mother is considered... of age? His nose wrinkled a bit. I cannot imagine why. He cannot have been a very good parent.

Inhaling the steam rising still from the teapot, Icelus smiled mildly. Any ONE of the three things I could have tolerated... but children such as yourself need the care of a devoted adult.

Iria couldn't understand it herself, but the man before her seemed to have struck a cord when he made such ill comments on Raine's parenting skills. Her legs twitched, wanting to jump to her feet in protest. Her hands wanted to slam the table. Her voice wanted to yell.

And she couldn't understand it.

But she sat there, making little to no motions that would suggest ill will toward her host.

"He.... He is... young... Acts younger than he really is but... he..." She cursed herself. "He's a good parent. He cared when a parent should. Sometimes more than he should. We had our difficulties but... I can't say he did anything that really made him deserve how I treated him."

Her eyes moved elsewhere, not wanting to see his reaction to these words and not wanting him to see that perhaps she meant them. She didn't want to believe she meant them either.

But somewhere in that black heart of hers...

She did.

She carefully tilted her tip in a circular motion to swish around her tea. There was no point to this other than something to do until someone decided to speak.

Icelus's eyes looked up from his tea, questioning, though he had to fight down a smile. Ah. So, your mother is not as terrible as I feared. I worried he would be neglectful... So why, in your dreams, did I see such resentment toward him?

The deity asked it quietly, downing the last of his tea and carefully refilling his cup.

Iria's cheeks became slightly pink as she contiued to avert her eyes. She was searching for the answer to this. She never really had a reason for treating him like she did.

"Sometimes I felt ignored... but only sometimes... I guess... I never wanted to admit it because... I guess I'm too proud... He was always with Lucifer, and Lucifer never really was much of a father figure to me. So together they were just a burden. Something I had to clean up after. Sometimes I felt like I was the parent. It scared me sometimes. I didn't want to grow up as fast as I did. But I got over it... I'm over it. It doesn't matter anymore. I never told them how I felt. Never told them what I wanted... that I wanted them... All I could do was push them away."

She took another sip, fighting back a small amount of moisture collecting in her eyes.

"But when it really counted, they were parents. But it was too late by then. I lost something. I don't know what it is but I lsot it.... and despite all that... I don't think I would be here without them... I don't hate them... I don't blame them... But I don't think I would do it all the same again."

Watching, Icelus made no move to comfort or further dismay the poor girl. He simply observed and listened for a long while, silent.

Do you wish that you could go back... that you could tell them how you felt?

The not-a-voice was just as quiet and impersonal as it had been before.
