The dark mare made her way out of the forest quietly. It had been quite some time since the last time she had ventured from her home within the forest. Though this was just a brief moment of casually scoping out the area. Soon she would return to the forest and quite possibly seek out Sib again.

The land was white. But of course, since winter was upon them. Though rarely did snow show itself in the forest as it would sit on top of the trees until something inadvertently knocked it from it's perch.

She moved away from the tree line and traveled across a large field. No one in sight. It was a slight drag. But it didn't matter really. She didn't expect there to be many Soquili out and about this time of the year. It was especially cold and she could feel the slight tinge of frigid air through her thick, dark fur.

"And a one two three, I've got minds set on me, but sure they can't seeeeee.....that we were meant to be!" Singing a light-hearted little bit of silliness, Safi shoft-shoed his way through the knee-deep snow of the field, a smile on his face. Though the cold had been a great problem for him in the early days of winter, by now he had gotten used to it to the extent that now he was delighting in it, perhaps a sign that the wintery aspects of his mother Celendria were indeed hereditary.

Or else he was just a cold-suited Soq. Who knew?

At any rate, this time of day was exceptionally nice to be out; the sinking sun cast odd color striations over the snowscape, and before too long there would be nothing but starlight on snow. For now, though, he was delighting in the simple atmosphere, which seemed to belong to him, and him alone.

Or not.

Stopping in mid-song, Safi narrowed his eyes and peered out across the field. A dark shape...was it a tree? No, it was moving. Another soq? More likely. Well, he could do with a bit of conversation! Smiling to himself, he folded back his wings and trotted off in the direction of the black shape.

Firefly's ears perked quickly as the sound of crushing snow drifted closer and closer. Turning her head in it's oncoming direction, she spotted something heading her way. From the look of things it was another Soquili. Well, perhaps she could do with a bit of company. After all, she had been spending quite a bit of time by herself or with Sib.

She turned her body so that she was facing whoever it was that was drawing near. Her tail gave a few quick snaps back and forth which uplifted some snow that was near her hind legs. As they got closer, she could make out wings. A Wind? She hadn't met one of those before. Or at least she couldn't remember meeting one. It had been too long since she had been a social butterfly.

Once he was close enough to make out more than general color, Safi realized that the mystery Soq was a mare. Well, he'd met a lot of those lately; so many, in fact, the the odds had to be against that happening too much longer. There had to be other stallions out there besides him, right? Right?

Ah, he cracked himself up sometimes. All things considered, mares were decent company.

As soon as he got within what he hoped was hearing distance, he smiled and called out a cheery greeting. "Good evening to you, Ma'am. Lovely day to be out and about, isn't it?"

She eyed the stallion quietly for a moment before coming to the conclusion, with the way he presented himself, that he was no threat to her. He was interesting enough to look at. His colors were definatly brighter and much more odd than the colors on some of the Soquili she had met in the past.

Lowering her head slightly, her long hair swept along the ground. But she quickly picked her head up and smiled. "Good evening. And yes. It is quite a lovely day to be out and about." Her eyes lidded halfway as she watched him. The urge to flirt and be social was nagging at the back of her mind. But she had to restrain herself. At least for a little while anyway.

As the mare bowed her head to him, Safi returned the gesture with a polite inclining not only of his head but also bending his front legs into a bow. After all, he could do the polite thing too, right?

While he raised his head, he was beaming in a wide fashion. It was nice not to have to watch his back in the company of a mare that wanted to decaptitate him, that was certain!

"Obviously great minds think alike. It took me a few days to get used to having snow around, but I have to admit that I"m pretty fond of the stuff. After all, it's a nice change of pace from green, or that nasty drabbish brown that follows the falling of the leaves."

Tilting his head to one side as he spoke, Safi gave the mare a curious once over. He'd never met a black mare before...come to think of it, he'd never met a black soquili period. She looked very depressed, going on the stereotypical vein; but somehow, he found himself doubting that appearance controlled mood. What would that make him, if that was the case? "And my name's Safi, by the way; who might you be?"

Firefly smiled lightly and nodded her head. "Yes. The snow does take a bit of getting used to. But even then there are some things about it that are slightly annoying. As in the coldness. If you stay too long in it you could go numb in any part of your body that came in contact with it."

Giving another flick of her tail. More snow was swept away. The coldness of the snow was something she still hadn't grown used to. "It's a pleasure to meet you Safi. I am Firefly."

"Perhaps, but that's why we have to be sensible Soquili and get out of the snow if we started to go numb. Though I suppose that gets a little more complicated if you don't have wings." As he spoke, Safi took note of the fact that unlike him, Firefly lacked wings; he might have considered that fact before speaking if he'd noticed, but keen observation didn't seem to be in his personality today. Well, hopefully she wasn't the type that was senstive about lacking wings.

As she introduced herself, though, he found himself grinning again. Firefly? He was very fond of fireflies; the little bugs were amusing twilight companions, what with their lighting capabilities and all...though somehow he doubted that the mare Firefly had the same ability or would appreciate the question. Best to just play it safe. "Well, likewise, Firefly. What brings you out into the snow today?"

She gave a small chuckle and shook her head. "Yes. Not everyone has wings. Though I don't mind that fact. If everyone had wings then the world would have no variety and become quite boring. Many would start to hate that they have wings because they are not different than others. Of course, on the flip side there would be those who would love their wings. Then there would be fighting and all around chaos. Soquili would turn against one another and then....yea." After a moment, she had realized she was rambling. Why did she do that sometimes? Perhaps it was the fact that she didn't have many that she talked to and it had been a while since she had any other conversation with anyone besides Sibalto. At least she knew she could keep some sort of conversation going.

Her attention was brought back from her own thoughts as Safi spoke. "Nothing much really. Just exploring I guess and seeing how the world has changed since I last ventured from the forest. And what brings you out here?"

If Firefly thought that she was rambling, then truly she was the only one. Perhaps it was bacause he himself was prone to literary flights, but more than anything else Safi was simply interested in what she was saying; after all, he did have a strong belief in the importance of variety, winged or otherwise. "Well, I'd say that Soquilis are good enough at getting grouchy at each other even with variety; still, I'd say that it works to have everyone different. Otherwise, what would we talk about at holiday dinners?"

Chuckling, Safi shifted his weight from his left side to his right, nodding his head as she explained her prescence. Really, he's been expecting an answer along those lines; after all, if anyone had any great and grandiose purpose for being anywhere, then the liklihood of them stopping to chat with a total stranger were pretty slim. Besides, who went out and about in the evening with great grandiose purposes aside of assasins and lovers? Of course, it was always possible that the mare was one or the other, but as he'd previously ruled...she wouldn't have stopped to talk if she were. Whew. Complicated train of thought there. Where was his point again?

Oh yes. "So, you're mostly a forest dweller, eh? Nice enough, if you don't mind the occassional falling lump of snow." That had happened way too much in his recent forest sojourns, thus his current meadow walking! "I don't even really have exploring as a reason, though. I'm out because I feel like it, I guess; it just seemed a good day to go walking!"
