[The Contestants]

Abel Nightroad, from Trinity Blood.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
A Catholic priest who seems to be nothing more than a clumsy, absent-minded fool on the surface. In truth, he is a Crusnik, a vampire of extreme, extraordinary power, and is an ancient being, hundreds of years old. He is a vampire that feeds on vampires. But despite his strength, he adheres to a principle of pacifism and often refuses to outright kill his opponents. Abel is shown in flashbacks to have a hatred for humanity, but at some point that changes into his current pacifist and peaceful outlook on life. He acknowledges having greatly sinned at some point in his life, though it is unclear as to what sin he committed, and much of his current personality is based on retribution for his sins. He has feelings towards Esther Blanchett, though they are more related to her similarities with a woman from his past. In his 'unaltered form' he fights with a gun that shoots silver bullets. As a Crusnik, is able to transform into various forms based on the amount of nanomachines in his body that he activates. In his higher forms he wields a huge scythe materialized from his own blood. In The Star Of Sorrow II, it is revealed that pre-armageddon, Nightroad was a Lieutenant Colonel in the UN Air Force.

Alucard, from Hellsing.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Alucard is the protagonist of the Hellsing manga, and also the most powerful warrior of the Hellsing organization (and arguably the world). He is not only a vampire, but also one of the most ancient ones. He usually dresses up in a Victorian fashion, including a charcoal suit, riding boots and a flamboyant and intricately knotted bowtie, covered by a long red trench coat. He also wears a fedora hat with a wide, floppy brim and a pair of circular, wire-framed sunglasses. He does wear other outfits, however (see Clothes and release states). He has an unbelievably vast range of supernatural powers, and is an expert gunfighter, his enhanced strength allowing him to wield pistols that most would consider heavy weaponry.
He fights with ferocity and often extreme cruelty, rarely shooting to kill until his target has been totally disabled and humiliated. He has a massive ego, and frequently gives enemies more than one chance to kill him before retaliating, just to demonstrate his enormous powers. Despite his thirst for battle, Alucard is not without feelings. He has strong emotions that tie him with his master, Integra Hellsing, a friendship with Walter, and expresses fatherly concern towards his 'child,' Seras Victoria.

D, from Vampire Hunter D.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
As a half-breed child of a vampire (Noble) father and human (peasant) mother, D makes the ideal vampire hunter. He is renowned for his consummate skill and unearthly grace, but feared and despised for his mixed lineage: born of both races but belonging to neither. Often underestimated by his opponents, D has surprising power and resourcefulness, possessing most of the strengths and only mild levels of vampiric weaknesses. Unlike most dhampirs, D is able to live as a "normal" human, though marked by his extremely pale skin, fangs, and pointed ears, and thus rarely accepted by humans. His only notable weaknesses are that he is, while not unfeeling, emotionally remote. He is also (far more rarely than other dhampirs) randomly susceptible to sun-sickness, a severe type of sunstroke, about once every five years. Otherwise, D does not suffer from vampiric weaknesses usual to dhampirs, possessing an imposing supernatural aura to his opponents and godlike reflexes surpassing even vampires. (Note, that in the first film this is described a bit differently. Dunpeals are actually much weaker than pure breed vampires. Thus they are not that common nor feared by vampires. When D killed the powerful vampire, Count Lee, at the end, it is revealed that D is actually strong because his father was the strongest vampire: Dracula.)
D is the host for a sentient symbiote, Left Hand, a wise-cracking shrivelled old face residing in his left palm, who can suck in massive amounts of matter through a wind void or vacuum tunnel. Left Hand enjoys needling the poker-faced D, but only appears as needed, rarely witnessed or heard by anyone other than D, yet aware of many of D's thoughts and actions. At all other times, D's left hand appears normal. Besides providing a contrast to D's reserved demeanor, Left Hand is incredibly useful, possessing many mysterious powers such as psychometry, inducing sleep, determining the medical condition of a victim, and the ability to size up the supernatural powers or prowess of an enemy, even beyond D's keen senses. In the first and second novels, Left Hand can also revive D when his physical condition is suffering, by consuming the four elements and coverting the resulting energy into life force. This ability even saved D from the usually fatal stake through the heart he received from Rei-Ginsei in the first novel. Left Hand has its own mind and will, and acts as D's guide and sole permanent companion, providing a reservoir of knowledge pertaining to the lost Noble culture. So far, Left Hand's origins are unknown, and it is unclear how they came to be joined, howevever, some of its nature is revealed in the third book, which features a similar creature.

Dante, from Devil May Cry.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Dante has a one-man devil hunting agency "Devil May Cry", which he runs in hopes of finding and killing the demons that killed his mother. Dante also has a twin brother named Vergil, whom we however learn little about during the course of this first game in the series. The story alludes to The Divine Comedy in the game's areas (roughly resembling and representing inferno, purgatorio, and paradiso) as well as in some of the character names; however it is purely an aesthetic similarity, and indeed the game borrows from a very wide range of sources for inspiration. After a less than proper introduction, a woman named Trish, who bears a striking resemblance to Dante's mother, convinces Dante to help her defeat Mundus, the Emperor of the Underworld, who is the leading antagonist of the game. The duo then sets off to Mallet Island, where Mundus's resurrection is about to take place, and where the majority of the game plays out.

Magus, from Chrono Trigger.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Magus was born Janus, heir to the Kingdom of Zeal and brother to Schala. Often seen broodingly pacing Zeal's cities, Janus was known to the kingdom's citizens as introverted and unhappy. He kept a purple cat named Alfador as a pet, named "his only friend" by one citizen. Though believed to be inept by many, Janus possessed magic power exceeding all others. Upon the completion of the Mammon Machine and the transformation of Queen Zeal, Janus hid away his power to avoid suffering in the same manner as Schala and his mother. Before Crono intervened in time to save the world, Janus attended the Ocean Palace christening and was swept up in a temporal distortion caused by Lavos. In the new timelines, Janus can be seen confiding in Schala concerning his dislike of his mother. She consoled him by giving him her amulet, which he would later wear around his hip as an adult. Janus also warned Crono that one in his group would soon die. As Crono descended to the Ocean Palace, Melchior watched over Janus, though the two soon disappeared into a black portal at the time of their original departure.
Janus emerged from the distortion in the Middle Ages of the Chrono Trigger world, where a creature named Ozzie seized him and carried him away. Ozzie commanded the Mystics, a race of non-human, sentient beings capable of using magic. The boy grew up to become the leader of the Mystics. Janus erstwhile lamented the loss of Schala and vowed to survive his predicament and exact revenge upon Lavos. To gain power necessary to summon and confront Lavos, Janus fully subscribed to the training given to him. His appearance and name changed, he led the Mystics in war with humanity, achieving a deified status among them. His three top warriors were Ozzie, Slash, and Flea. Ten years before 600 A.D., he slew the head knight of Guardia, Cyrus, and changed his squire Glenn to a frog. The two were attempting to acquire the Masamune, a legendary sword thought to be the only weapon that could defeat Magus. In 600 A.D., Magus completed his preparations and attempted to summon Lavos. Crono and Frog, believing he created Lavos in the Middle Ages, interrupted him at his lair and battled him at length. Magus revealed that he was merely summoning Lavos. The incomplete spell activated, causing a temporal distortion that sent Crono's group to 65,000,000 B.C. and Magus to his original time period.
At home in Zeal, Magus surmised that with the nearing activation of the Ocean Palace, he would once again have the chance to seek vengeance upon Lavos. To gain access, he appeared to Queen Zeal as a prophet from a mysterious land, using his childhood knowledge to predict future events. He was instated as director of the Ocean Palace's completion, and warned Queen Zeal and Dalton of Crono and his group. He also had the Gurus of Zeal banished, presumably for fear of his true identity being discovered. He first met Crono's group since the disaster at his lair in Zeal Palace, where he confirmed that "they are the evildoers [he] warned [her] of." Once Crono and his friends were subjugated, Magus threatened to kill them. Schala and Janus pleaded, and Magus compromised by having her lock them out of the time period by sealing a time gate. He then attended the christening of the Ocean Palace, awaiting the moment of Lavos's emergence. Once the creature arrived, he threw off his disguise in full view of Crono's group. He then attempted to kill Lavos, only to be beaten back to helplessly watch Crono die. Powerless and prostrate, he was saved with Crono's remaining friends by Schala, who used her pendant's powers to transport them to land. Having washed up on shore much later than the crew, he then went to the North Cape to reflect on past events. When confronted by Crono's friends, he revealed his identity as Janus and informed them of a way to revive Crono, whom he simultaneously ridiculed.

Miyu, from Vampire Princess Miyu.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
A girl who appears to be 13 or 14 years old but in fact is much older, being a vampire. In the OVA, she was the child of a human father and a vampire mother in post-World War II Japan. In the TV series, however, her mother was human and her father was a shinma guardian in pre-World War II Empire of Japan. In both cases, Miyu became the Guardian after losing her parents. It should be noted that the OVA Miyu was childlike and playful while the series Miyu was more reserved and composed.
Even though she is a vampire, Miyu isn't harmed by sunlight, holy water or crucifixes. Though she does need to drink blood to survive, she chooses her 'victims' carefully. She chooses beautiful persons who have suffered a tragic loss, and offers them their greatest wish - to be with their lost loved ones, at least in their dreams - in exchange for their blood. These people live an endless dream state forever. In the TV series, when posing as a human, she goes by the name Miyu Yamano

Nicholas D. Wolfwood, from Trigun.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
In the anime, he is a preacher and an excellent gunman, who in the original Japanese version speaks Osaka dialect. Nicholas and Vash The Stampede meet in the desert when Vash's bus runs across Nicholas' motorcycle. He proves to be a valuable ally, but sometimes Vash and Wolfwood's philosophies conflict. In the end, he comes over to Vash's way of thinking, even though he was associated with Millions Knives the whole time. Nicholas' purpose is to raise money for children at an orphanage he runs. Wolfwood loves children, a good reason he and Milly hit it off so well. He is also known as Chapel in the manga. He is not Chapel (in the anime, called Chapel the Evergreen) in the anime, but it is hinted that he will receive the title once the original Chapel completes a task.
When Wolfwood was younger, he lived with his uncle, a violent alcoholic who frequently abused him, until one day young Wolfwood shot him dead. In the anime, this person was his guardian. Afterwards Chapel somewhat adopted Wolfwood and trained him to fight and shoot. Many other facts about Wolfwood are unknown.
The giant cross that he carries, the Punisher, holds 12 pistols (across arms of the cross), a giant machine gun (long part of the cross) and finally, a rocket launcher in the top. The trigger for the Punisher is a skull shaped symbol in the centre of the cross. As can be expected, the weapon/case is very heavy and only Wolfwood, Milly, and Vash seem to have no trouble holding it, though Vash once comments on its weight. Wolfwood states that it's heavy "because it's full of mercy." He was inducted into the Gung-Ho Guns for his service to Knives.
In the manga, Wolfwood was raised in an orphanage before being inducted into the Eye of Michael, an organization of assassins founded by a plant worshiper. The Eye of Michael worships Knives as a god and provides him with contract killers. His master was Chapel, but this man is rather different from the anime version of Chapel. Wolfwood took the identity of this man, after betraying him and shooting him, which cost Chapel the use of his legs. He presented himself as Chapel when he joined the Gung-Ho Guns, apparently with the intention of betraying and killing Knives (which he was unable to do). During his training, Wolfwood has been physically enhanced to superhuman status including regenerative abilities that are triggered by special vials that he can consume.
Wolfwood dies in Volume 10 of the manga, after fighting both Chapel, Livio the Doublefang and Razlo the Trip of Death. Although he managed to defeat all of them, he overdosed on two vials of the Super Regenerative Drug taken simultaneously, which caused massive internal bleeding and organ damage.

Robin Sena, from Witch Hunter Robin.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Robin Sena is the titular protagonist of Sunrise's Witch Hunter Robin. She is a soft-spoken girl with a mysterious origin, given that she has power similar to the witches she helps hunt.
Robin has pyrokinetic abilities that allow her to manifest varying amounts of fire. In addition, she can channel her energy into shields capable of blocking both solid matter and "crafts", or magical powers, from other craft-users like herself. However, any use of her power causes her eyesight to weaken—which in turn greatly reduces the accuracy and effectiveness of her pyrokinesis. This problem is easily solved by wearing glasses, but Robin doesn't like to use them — especially at first.
Though good-natured, Robin has employed her gift to the point of lethal force when necessary to either save someone's life or for the good of others. Throughout the course of the series, she grows increasingly powerful, reaching the point where she raises concerns from the very organization she's serving.
Having been raised by nuns from Italy, she has many of their habits, from the compulsive urge to clean whatever's handy to a fondness for good espresso. Robin struggles with her faith throughout the course of the series, but eventually reconciles with it in the final few episodes. Her fate at the end of the series is unknown.

Saya, from Blood - The Last Vampire.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
It's 1966 in Japan. Saya is the last original vampire, and part of a secret team destroying demons. She is sent undercover as a student at the Yokota Air Base in Fussa-shi, Tokyo, just before Halloween.
She discovers that two of her classmates are vampires in disguise just as they are preparing to attack the school nurse; meanwhile, her colleagues have discovered another vampire acting as a bartender in the local red-light district. A spectacular battle ensues.

Suigintou, from Rozen Maiden.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
The Rozen Maidens are a collection of dolls created by a craftsman named Rozen, whom the dolls refer to as "Father". Their primary source of power is a human host (a "medium") that wears a ring to symbolize their bond with the doll, although dolls have been shown to act without a medium. Each Rozen Maiden has her own distinct personality, guardian spirit, and supernatural ability. Their apparent purpose is to participate in the "Alice Game", a lethal competition that promises the winner the right to meet "Father" by becoming "Alice", a girl of supreme beauty that lives inside of "Father", which is said to be "more sublime than any flower, purer than any gem, and without a touch of impurity".
Suigintou is the first doll of the Rozen Maiden. Her desire to win the Alice Game is the strongest of all the Rozen Maiden, and is primarily driven by her wish to meet "Father". Sadistic, spiteful, and arrogant (although she hides a spectacular inferiority complex), Suigintou has no inhibitions with the Alice Game. She will use any method possible, regardless of how cruel, to win. She has a particular dislike of Shinku, her rival, and can approximate how many hours and minutes it has been since they last fought.
In the first season, Suigintou's emotions and will are so enduring that she can move and fight without the aid of a medium. She is against the use of one not only because of her natural independence, but also due to her disdain for humanity. Suigintou's weapons are her ragged black wings. With her feathers, she can conjure up two dragons as well as a large sword. Her wings also serve as shields when necessary.
Although she was the first doll to be created, in both the anime and manga, she has unique physical imperfections. In the anime, she is missing a torso, because Rozen had scrapped her design before she was completed[citation needed]. After she was defeated and injured by Shinku in season, she was repaired by Rozen and returned. Rozen also told her that even with her deformed body, she still had the chance to become Alice. In the manga, her wings--she is the only Rozen Maiden with them--have ravaged her back with cracks. These imperfections have caused some to call her "Junk", and much of her life revolved around demonstrating, especially to Rozen, that this is not the case. However, upon meeting Megu, her attitude and motivations begin to shift. Suigintou slowly begins to show affection, and even hopes to use the other doll's Rosa Mysticae to heal Megu of her heart ailment.

Of course, I’d still root for Suigintou! 4laugh
