Tessa paced back and forth across her classroom ( a now common occurance for her) while waiting for her pupil to arrive. The girl Delta, was a Sheltie and was to be learning how develop her sense to smell to standards near that of which her DNA dictated she should or could have.
In order to do this she'd set a few small vial up on a desk. Each vial contained a different scent some strong and others faint. Delta's lesson would be to smell each vial then find it's partner which was hidden somewhere in the class room. It was a simple test but should be effective.

Delta was late, again. Being late had become an unfortunate trend with her lately. She never meant to be late but it happened anyway. She had been dropped off out the front of the building on time but had managed to get lost for a while before arriving at the appropriate classroom. Peering through the door she could already see her teacher pacing back and forth across the floor.
Cursing her bad luck she knocked and timidly opened the door, entering the classroom. This was her first class of this sort and she was nervous, the not had said the was meant to learn/improve some kind of special skill but delta was not quite sure what the skill was. She noticed as she walked to the front of the classroom that there were multiple vials on a desk, a few smelt quite strongly and made delta's nose twitch oddly. Mabye her skill was mixing perfumes?.. yeah right.. Delta turned to the teacher "I'm really sorry I'm late Miss, I got lost on my way here."

Tessa smiled warmly at the girl " It's ok this building gets a lot of people lost young and old. You're Delta correct? You're here today to learn how to improve and make the most of your sense of smell. The vials you see over there contain the same scents as ones hidden in the room. It's your job to find the matching vials."

Delta sighed with relief, this teacher seemed nice and wasn't going to yell at her for being tardy. "Thanks, Yes I'm Delta" she smiled and stood up straight knowing that this class was very important and that she had to pass. "Ok, right. Sense of smell.." Delta walked closer to the table of the vials. the closer she got the more her nose twitched. "All these vials together, they all mix into a collective stench, I don't know if I will be able to tell them apart?" Delta tried to separate the scents trying to relate them to things she knew.

" I suggest picking one and moving to another part of the room then so it's the strongest scent you're dealing with." Unlike with the koala girl , Tessa had not corked the vials during this test. Delta's sense of smell required far harder testing and learning to differntiate one scent from another while searching for partners would be a rather hard test. " I'm sure you can do this" she encouraged.

Delta listened to the teachers suggestion and nodded picking up the vial closest to her and walking a few meters away hoping that was far enough to get far enough away from the other scents. Crossing her fingers for luck she held the vial up to her nose and breathed in, this scent was very strong and sickly sweet. After wafting the sent to her nose a few more times delta decided that the closest thing that she could remember to the scent was lavender, hoping that if she formed associations with the smells that it would make it easier to locate the other vials.
Returning the vial back to the desk so its scent wouldn't mingle with the others delta headed out into the classroom sniffing at the air trying to pick up the 'lavender' scent. The classroom had many smells, many were probably not even for this test just normal classroom scents. "So they are all just in this one room?" delta asked, wanting to make sure she was doing the right thing. Still sniffing the air trying to pick which directions the 'sweeter' smells were coming from. She decided that they seemed to be coming from her right so she headed in that direction towards the windowsill.
((Sorry, but am I supposed to pick the scents and where they are hidden? Its my first class -_-" im a bit unsure.))

( Yeah it's up to you what's in the vials and where partners are found ^-^. Nothing to be sorry about.)
" Yell all in the class, spreading them about the building would have been dangerous as anyoen could have found them." Tessa watched the girl and pulled out her clip board to make notes. This test had her being less active in the teachign and more keeping records of the girl's progress.

The sweet smell on the windowsill seemed to emanate from a vase of flowers, Drat. Delta thought she had picked it out and she was just about to head away when her nose twitched, there was a sweet smell joined with the flower smell... the same as the vial! Delta smiled as she looked inside the flower pot and looked behind the flower pot and there it was a cleverly hidden vial! Beaming she grabbed the vial and sniffed it again to be sure "Got one!" She happily skipped to the front of the class to put it on the desk next to its partner scent.
Then she picked up the next vial and walked to the same spot she had sniffed from before. clearing her mind of the sweet scent she held the new vial up to her nose. This scent was a lot more discreet and was difficult to place. Delta wafted the scent to her nose... It smelt clean, maybe.. soap? but delta knew what soap smelt like as she used it every day. After a few wafts delta thought of something it could be, clean laundry! It was similar to soap but softer and mixed with other scents like cotton. Again she put the new vial back on the desk and headed out into the classroom, this would be trickyer as there were many stronger scents in the room.

Tessa remained silent as she scribbled down her notes. The girl was doing well so far and seemed to focused on her task. There wasn't much Tessa could do but wait and see what happened.

Delta sniffed at the air trying to clear all the stronger scents from her mind. But every time she caught just a little bit of the soapy smell it would fade away again masked by a stronger smell nearby. Delta frowned, she had thought she was doing well. Tying a new tactic she walked into the center of the room and sniffed seeing if it was stronger there, nope.. then she walked out into each of the corners until she found the faint soapy scent. There, in one of the corners of the room she caught it and it stayed. Delta tuned her nose in on just that one smell and closed her eyes trying to pick up the direction it came from. It seemed to come from behind her, opening her eyes she turned around only to come face to face with a bookshelf. She sniffed at the shelves first at the bottom shelves where she decided the scent was fainter so she moved to the higher shelves. The scent it seemed came from the top shelf, but delta was too short to reach it so she went to grab a chair to aid her. Propping the chair against the shelf she climbed on top of it carefully, using her tail to help her balance. Now she could just see the top shelf, and yes, mingled among the smells of leather and paper was the smell she had been looking for. Carefully delta removed each book to look behind them placing them back once she had seen it wasn't there. She knew the scent was here, but where? finally she came to a fat leather bound dictionary which she removed from the shelf with alot of trouble as it was heavy and there was the second vial. Relieved she took the vial and returned to dictionary to its original position, then she jumped off the chair and took it back to where she had gotten it from. Two vials down, one to go. Grinning she returned the laundry scented vial with its pair.

"Good job" Tessa murmured. that had been oen of the harder vials and she wasn't sure the girls nose was up to it or what all the smells that were normally in the classroom would do to her ability to pick out a scent. There was but one vial left and it wasn't too hard to find. The scent it contained was quite distinct.

Excitedly delta picked up the last vial and rushed to her smelling spot and took a deep sniff of the smell. And the moment she had done that she dreaded it. Coughing and gagging delta whipped the vial away from her nose and eyes, wiping her watery eyes with her free hand. In her gagging she managed to cough out the words "Bleughh, Stinks like decay!" Regaining her composure delta walked back to the desk and hurried to return the vial, she wished to be as far away from it as possible, but it would have to wait till she found its partner. Quickly she began to sniff the air, this time the smell came to her swiftly like a thread showing her the way to is location, she closed her eyes and walked following the smell carefully so she didn't bump into anything. The smell seemed to have moved around for some time as the trail wove and wound all around the classroom until finally she found where it was strongest Delta opened her eyes triumphantly "Aha-" she was face to face with the teacher "Uhh, sorry..." she felt extremely embarrassed. Thinking she had made a mistake she sniffed the air again, no it wasn't the first vial nearby she was smelling, it had to be the second..."Uhh, Excuse me miss... Is the last vial in your pocket?"

Tessa nodded and pulled the vial from her pocket " That was a test to see if the smell could be masked by a persons natural smells of body and clothing." The test was also to see if the girl was brave enough to persue the smell by asking the question. She handed over the vial and smiled " you've done a good job and passed, keep practising hunting out things at home and you'll be good in no time."

Delta beamed, returning the last vial to its partner. "Soo.. I pass?" she enquired, just making sure before she got fully excited, when she heard she had she jumped in the air and clapped her hands "Woo!". Delta had had no idea she could actually follow a smell like a cord, she had only even smelt for things and gotten a vague direction before. She would definatley keep practicing this skill, It was a very handy skill to have and could one day help someone in trouble.

Tessa nodded " Indeed, I hope to hear good progress reports from yoru guardian." Student dismissed she took her final notes.
