I'm at a cross=roads right now. I'm thinking about joining the ranks of the military by going on the Air Force.

The main reason that I'm doing this is because

1. I don't want to be a burden to my family.( because they keep offering to help me pay for college, but I know it would be tough for them. So, as an attempt to thank them, I want to try and get by on my own mostly by trying to not be a burden on them.

2. I want to have a good future with chaotic. I honestly love and she knows that as well. But, if I do plan on being together with her (which I plan on doing) I want our lives to be as comfortable as possible. I don't want to struggle with anything like alot of bills or something.(I can't think of many thing for this) I just want our relationship to be peacful without life throwing too many curveballs at me.

I told my mother about my plans, and obviously she doesn't want me to do it. I'm just thinking of this as a last resort for life, if I can't find anything better for myself (job-wise, I've been looking for a better job, because Game Stop sucks for pay) . Then, a few hours later I told chaotic and she's a bit pissed at me too. I think she just doesn't want me gone for the two years I intend to stay because she doesn't want anything to happen to me. I understand that, but I'm trying to do this for her and myself. She says that it's my choice, but I know she doesn't want me to go.

So I'm asking for your advice, because I can't think of what to do. I really need help for this, because I'm geting mixed up and I can't think clearly enough to make a good enough decision

Well, on the brightside of joining they won't send you overseas for at least a year.

but really, my advice to anyone thinking of joining any branch of the military is to think about it for at very least one full year.

because it's a huuge decision and you shouldn't rush it.

honestly, Blarg, I wouldn't do it if I were you...wait a couple of years, then if you still want to, go ahead

my dad and grandpa and uncle were all military, I knew at an early age what I would be getting into, and actually looked forward to it. My mixed blessing came when I got discharged (not sure as to the reason, I asked three different times, got three different answers) yeah, my entire life plan got shot to pieces, but I was able to build a new one that suits me just fine.

Hard times happen, but it's the conflict in life, and how you handle it, that helps define you.

Ehh, I'm still not sure, but I was going to wait a while anyways to see what happens to within the year before I decide to go.

Air force isn't that bad.
I was ready to join the navey until a case of food posining made me unaceptable.

Talk to every branch and do well on the test.
Get a package comparrison and have and present them side by side to you parents.
Prepare what your going to say and think up a few answers.

Have your parents sit down with your recruiter and talk out their conserns.
Pick a top three or so jobs out from your branch of choice.
When you get to the placement recruiter if they don't have the job you want walk.
You don't have to settle.
A lot of times the job magicaly opens up with some sweet perks.
It may be a bit rough so try training with the DEPs.

Joining the RAF (Raoyal Air Force) is my last resort if college fails, partly because they train you to drive, so they give you a drivers licence, they pay for the appartments you live in, you learn to fly planes etc, and you got a good couple of thousand pounds a month, so I'd say your set.

Not sure about the Airfocrce over there though.

Hey dude, Looks like you do have a bit of a problem there!

Here is my advice!

Air-Force- My Brother is currently In it and has been for maybe 5 years? He Loves it. He now has two children and he and his wife are happy. I am not sure on the money bit, But I think it's alright.

Army- I do not trust the Army. Maybe not the Army as a whole. However, Back when my brother was joining the Air Force....

One day near the end of his getting enrolled. We recieved a call from my brothers recruiter, Apparently the "Army" stole my brothers paperwork and were basically to put it simple. Putting him in the Army! I think this is a horrible bit and it probably happens alot anyway, Maybe not just with the Army but.
I am no completely against them, My Mother worked for the Department As a Civilian for 10 years as a secretary and my Father was in the Army.

Navy- I have no Idea about these folks! lol I know quite a few that were in it. But they were on subs and roamed around for months on end. Doesn't sound like much fun. My Pastor who was in it told me that (Now I can't remember completely) But it was something like if they had to get out of the sub. And it was an emergency they would pop your ear drums and you had to basically float to the top or something... (I'll have to comfirm that) sweatdrop ( remember the ear popping bit though... It made me sick!

Marines- All I have to say is... I think a man designed their uniform!

.....

With any of these branches, Doing anything on planes/ships etc, Is a sure ticket overseas when a war arrives. My brother got into computers. there are other things, Talk to a recruiter.

Ever Considered the Coast Guard? Check them out! I was truly considering it a few years back.

Anyways Hope I helped!

I think it'd be more stressful if you joined because chances are, now that everyone's so desperate to send more bodies to Iraq, that you'd be sent over. Just in my opinion, being poor is better than being dead lol.
