Sad to say I haven't been on in a while. But this is what I found out one day:
When me and my dad were out one night we saw a harvest moon. My dad explained that a "harvest moon" is when the moon becomes so bright that farmers can harvest their crop way into the night. I realized then that that's where they most likely got the name.
Just an interesting fact I thought I might share sweatdrop Thought it might be interesting. ninja

You mean that "harvest moon" is like the giant orange-coloured moon? or a smaller shining one? I've seen a big yellow/orange like several times. It looks very pretty 4laugh

kingwerewolf actually, harvest moon is the full moon in september. january is wolf moon. Most of the time. Occasionally It's in October. A true Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox. And, when the full moon occurs at the beginning of the months, you'll get a Harvest Moon in October. wink

Yeah. But I thought the Harvest Moon was the 1st full moon after the first day of fall. Oh well, pretty much the same thing. It's really cool.

Raticiel You mean that "harvest moon" is like the giant orange-coloured moon? or a smaller shining one? I've seen a big yellow/orange like several times. It looks very pretty 4laugh The thing that makes the moon look orangey or red is because of the asteroid belt i think. People say its the reflection from Mars but its not. If you've seen the movie The Kid, there's an explanation there. I've seen a red moon actually; more like wine red though xd I'd really like to see a Harvest Moon

When the moon turns orange its due because of the atmotsphere around the earth has a high level of something an makes the moon appear orange. i know some science but not a lot about space yet

That thing about the alcohol could explain why it's so addictive, and the harvest moon goes with the main point! *shot*
