How many people actually think about the future survival of the Human Race? If you do, then great! It is important and I encourage anyone interested in it to post their ideas no matter how crazy, insane, normal, stupid, inteligent, or any other as long as you believe it possible.
I personally expect us to arrive in space and start making missions to other planets. Lots of people are so concerned about earth when if a dissaster struck we would all fall into an abyss of nothing accomplished. I also hope to a future of Earth United! Where people finally realize that we are all human and stop bickering with each other about skin color and superiority.

I like your idea about the planets, as of right now NASA is only planing to build a base on the moon in 2020 and actually have people living there by 2024. If that goes well then we will send people to Mars. I believe that if the human race is going to survive we need to find ways to limit the vast increase in population counts and reduce but not eliminate the greenhouse gasses. There are countless diseases and deaths directly connected to the warming of the earth, take Malaria for instance; there are certain places where Malaria has never been because the area is too far north but in recent years Malaria has become more common in different places because the climate of the region has increased just high enough to harbour the illness.

Dream_Raven wow, a moon base eh? i wonder who they will let go up to the base? Once traveling in space becomes as regular as traveling in cars, then probably everyone. But that is probably farther in the future than anyone of us will live. I hope it's not though.

Thank you. The planet is probably not going to go in our lifetime, but we do have to start worrying and being prepared or we will never be prepared. I don't believe that the warming of the Earth will present a huge problem, but I could stand to do more reasearch in that area. What else do you know about the planets current condition that is greatly affecting the world?

Well.. I think that humans will start killing each other, and destroying the planet leaving future generations no resources at all to work with. Money will play the ultimate factor as a Selection marker, so, poor people will probably have a high rate of mortality. And there will be a consumable water shortage, 'cause countries won't spend in desalination plants and will charge for that water, making money a big deal in the next years. The world will be destroyed by wars and the rise of nationalistic expressions that will bring discrimination to a new level of violence.
I think that's what's going to happen... in 50 years or so...

[Xenocidic_Chaos] Buddy, That's what Jane's for. Last name Jane first name Mary?
Um...survival of the human race? Possible...
It's only a matter of time until yellowstone national park blows up and then the majority of the human race will be wiped away. (look it up that is completely serious "Super Volcanos")
AS for space?
It's like communism...just a dream...
Why don't we ALREADY have a moon base....correct me if I'm wrong but why do never build there? It'd be easier than a space station, we could create a foundation! It'd be familiar building, and it would have some form of gravcity to assist the construction process. Makes me "wonder" why no space shuttles have landed on the moon...yet they're superior to rockets?
A lot of the space programs are shows. Mostly because our governments don't give them enough resources to do their job propperly.
but yeah...
What with impending nuclear war, the possibility of massive ash clouds blacking out the skies over the whole western half of the world...The ice caps melting...
We are doomed. And hopefully it'll be swift.

I don't think the future of the human race is looking too good as of now...
With all these wars, it's wonder we haven't killed ourselves yet. Why can't there just be peace. And what about the animals? There have been so many magnificent species that have been killed off just because we have overhunted them.
And then there's the global warming issue. The planet's climate is changing too fast and it's having dire effects. Higher temperature's mean more heat-related diseases, and that animals who require a cooler climate will die off (or, at least the ones that can't adapt quickly enough). Look at the amphibeans for instince. I don't know the exact details, but there's some kind of new fungi that's killing them off somehow. Also, it's causing the ice caps to melt. Not good, since they contain about 90% of the world's fresh water. There's so many other things that global warming is causing that I can't even remember them all!
The worst part of all of this is that it can be prevented. But it's not, and because it's not, I think our survival looks grim.

As of right now the earth is losing quite a bit of its fresh water, the worlds' largest aquifer, the Ogallala Aquifer, is being depleted at an alarming rate. If this aquifer goes dry, then Nebraska, Kasas, Oklahoma, and Texas will lose acess to water. Other states will be effected as well because the Ogallala water is being diverted to as far away as Southern California. Can you imagine not having running water for hundreds of miles around you. If this happens then thousands will die, what's worse is that the vast majority of the scientific community thinks that up to 60% of the world's fresh water will be gone unless humanity can come up with some new way to recycle water. Although water on eath is never lost, it does take on different forms; specifically salt water.

I noticed quite a few people mentioned global warming, pollution, and water problems. These problems are too costlly, but what if they cost nothing? I don't know that I would ever be able to pull it off, but what if you had some sort of community service type organization that drafted people to work for so many years. It could be applied into the government somehow so that, instead of costing money, it cost time and gave people extra rights or something. Some people can't find a job anyhow and some people are just looking for a way to live. This could not only clean up the environment but provide a way for poorer people to have meals every day as well as shelter. This is of course supposing we get the people to work without pay serving the community, which I don't think people should be paid for anyway. Serving the community is serving yourself and is pay in its own way, but maybe I am being too optimistic of this world.
