I read an article someone wrote about lolis, saying that the only real dollies are thin japanese girls with expensive loli clothes... this upset me, tho i am japanese and weigh less than i should, i found this outrageous. in my opinion, anyone can be a loli, it doesnt matter your race or size or how much you spend on in! please tell me what you think?

That person is obviously very very very VERY misinformed. In fact, in Gothic and Lolita Bible, they often use European models, or at least in the one I had. And besides which, making ones own clothes is much more admirable than jsut going out and buying clothes. Anyone can save up enough money to buy something. Meaning that any silly little girl can go and be a Loli, according to THAT article. *scoffs at it* It is the behavior and attitude that makes a true Loli. Ask Novala Takemoto. >.> Quoth he: "Even when wearing a jersey, a princess is a princess."

I wanna see this article, I'm interested in this poorly informed soul now.

I cannot being to say how angy I get when people talk about lolita like that.

It just... I don't know. It's not right.

Lolita is derived from Victorian clothes, if anyone shouldn't be wearing it, it would be the Japanese!

But that's not right either.

Everyone should be able to wear it, it's stupid to say it goes to only one type of people.

The person who wrote that is obviously very proud of themselves for being that way, or is one who takes the Lolita rules too seriously and is now making up new rules. There are European models in the GLB, like Nezumi Kakashi said and not all the models are stick thin in the pictures yet they manage to look like dollies. I believe anyone can be loli, as long as the clothing worn is Lolita, regardless of price.

I have always wondered if it was just about what you wore, or if it was more than that. Also I do agree that limiting it just to skinny japanese girls isn't right, I do feel that if it is moreso based on personality than it is fasion, the Japanese would probably be the best at having it down pat, but it doesn't mean they can be the only ones.

I always thought of sewing as an elegance that lolis should be fimilliar with.
I only have two store bought dresses(I sew the rest of my possessions..), yet I think i am considered very loli.

by the way...
About this whole "Lolis should be THIN THIN THIN"
No.
Has anyone here ever played The sims 2?
If so, try making a character, and go from adult, to teen, to child.
Notice the face gets round and chubby like.

I believe that is what real lolis should be aspiring for.
I'm not saying that you should be 200 lbs obese.
Thats just horrible, Bad for your health.
But people should stop constantly claiming to be loli you have to be able to fit in a dress size of 2

This goes for anything in life too, it's a common thing that people should be familiar with. You don't need to be as skinny as the Olsen twins (woah, old school gossip!!) to be beautiful or doll like or anything. I've seen quite a few larger people who are very very VERY pretty, and in Fruits I've seen girls in Lolita dresses that are (or at least appear to be) tall, or chubby, and I think they look positively adorable.

For the record, I am a very tiny person, I fit perfectly in Japanese smalls, but my sister is about 120-30lbs, not than heavy but not exactly a stick either, and she looks positively lovely in Lolita.

When speaking of loli wight, I've got to say the same thing I always do when stuffed under a deluge of pale enthusiasts (bless my dominant 1/8 Italian portion):

If you're healthy, you're beautiful-- skin, hair, weight, whatever. Anyone in real life who asks me if I'm anorexic gets it. I'm sometimes a little offended that they say "l0l gurl 1/2 our siez letz pik on her," but more offended that they think I could do that to myself. -___-

No, a 200 pound girl isn't going to look nice in lolita, because she's probably not healthy. But a size twelve might look adorable, if she takes care of herself. (For the record, size twelve isn't fat at all, it's just a little big for brand dresses. XP)

Uhm.
I'm a 218 lb girl. [Down from 230, yay]
I think I look nice in lolita.
Sure, I'm not perfect, but that doesn't mean I don't look decent.

That seemed a little un-called for.

loli sterotypes are horrible...
i never buy premade loli clothes i make my own, and i never end up spending an outrageous amount of money on fabric (especially compared to the girls that spend 150$ on a pair of jeans...)
they do use alot of european models (loli fashion is based on victorian after all.. sweatdrop i think that proves they have no clue what theyre talking about...) but honestly true lolitas dont care about weight race money or any of those stupid things...if someones going to write an artice about lolis they should atleast know a thing or two rather then making sterotypes and assumptions.

(o___O) I didn't mean it in a mocking way, I was proving that larger girls can be and are cute in lolita.

Edit: And I use fattie-chan in a loving way as I am one as well. x:
