Anyone else watch this Mecha Anime? What do you think of it?

I personally think Zwie is a little faster paced then the first season, and the secrets ar getting revealed too soon after one another. It's too bad it looks like it could of been a bit longer of a series.

I have it on order actually but I have not seen any of it yet. Its Masami Obari so I should be satisfied with it.

Seen the first season. The English voice acting fits, but I very much prefer the Japanese track.

In some respects, Gravion reminds me of Daitarn 3. Sandman and Banjou are both obscenely rich, both own a huge robot, and Gravion's construction in general brings Daitarn to mind.

Still, Gravion is capable of being based on it's own high points.

What bugs me is how Zwei has been released. I know fanservice is an angle here, but c'mon. The DVD covers have me too embarassed to actually buy the damn stuff. Fanservice is cool, but when I buy giant robot anime, I want my giant robot on the front!........or at least an image that won't make my family give me a weird look.

The choice of coverart for Gravion Zwei concerns me as well. I actually found the series sitting in the adult section at an f.y.e. stare

The Box that volume one has the of Zwei only has the robot on the side. Both the front and back are fan service, but atleast the back is relevent to the seiries the beach scene never happens.

Given that the intial airing of Gravion was Japan's, you'd have to mean that the other way around. Translations are a pretty tricky buisness, and dialogue (And kickass scenes in some other cases) has to be removed in order to make sense to the audience and fit the running time.

Nice example in SRW OG2.........Excellen tried to refer to the OG Numbers (Kincaid had a good name in Alpha 2, so....) as a "Buddha in Hell", but ended up saying "Hotcake in hell". This joke made sense in Japanese, but if translated into english, it would seem a litte weird...........lemmee illustrate. (Thanks to Chrissy once again for being a goddess of all that is SRW)

Excellen: It's like that phrase "Hotcake in Hell", right? (Jigoku ni Hotto Keeki)

Shine: What?

Tasku: Thats "BUDDHA IN HELL"! (Jigoku no Hotoke)

Lamia: (How did she confuse Hotcakes and Buddha?)

If the phrases were spelt out "Jigoku no...." it might work, but for the most part, the uninformed audience would remain confused.........though this IS a pretty specific example, and most dialogue doesn't get this particular in reference.

Which reminds me of ADV trying to get Getter Robo. What are Jack and Mary King going to sound like? PERFECT ENGLISH?! 0_o

I sadly, had to resort to burning the two series' to get them. I am however saving to order them in. Because something tells me, that I'd like it. I was told the mecha designs were done by the original gundam creator.

Yoshiyuki Tomino? You must be mistaken. He was the creator of Mobile Suit Gundam.

I think you mean Gundam's mechanical designer, Kunio Okawara. Actually, I was just watching the first two episodes of Gravion last week. I'm rather certain I saw Okawara's name in the credits next to mechanical design.

Kunio Okawara is credited for mecha design along with my personal favorite Masami Obari along with Yasuhiro Moriki (Zeorymer, Banner of the Stars, and Nadesico), and Jin Fukichi and Yousuke Kabashima who seem to be getting their start in the business.

Who actually created the design for Gravion itself? I do not know, but Okawara or Obari would be most likely.

I just finished watching Gravion. I'm hoping Zwei will be put together as a box set so I save some cash.

At first, I thought Gravion was a remake of Daitarn 3. The colours and especially those yellow boot blades scream it out.

What I thought of it... I was a little disapointed. It started getting better after the 5th or 6th episode, but it felt like a very haphasard, thrown-together mess. The animation was far too recycled for the shortness of the series. The fights were too 1 punch. And there wasn't enough boob action going on, despite the awesome "resources" there were to work with.

I was expecting better from Masami Obari. He's one of my primary anime directors and my first favorite mecha/character designer. Visually, it was nice, but the weird noses took some getting used to.

If Zwei doesn't get boxed, I might not buy it. Buying the DVDs individually would be too expensive, especially now that I'm affraid it might be a mediocre product. and it pains me to say that because I've been waiting to see Gravion since it first came out in Japan...

My advice for those who have anime video rental locations: Rent. Don't buy. If you liked it enough to spend on it, go ahead.

I don't regret the purchase, but it enforces my reasoning of "watching before buying". I'm just in a position now where I have to spend big to get anime exposure. damn forest and dial-up...

I am slowly going through Zwei at this time and I've been enjoying it. The Hot Springs episode features quite a bit of fan service. wink

I usually wait for a deal to be going on at Rightstuf before buying domestic releases. Zwei cost me about $48 new with the artbox. I was willing to pay $8 more bucks and not wait for a collection rerelease but that was my own priority at that moment.

I love ADV's collection rereleases though. heart It is never a bad idea to wait for one.

I think Alex Smith steals the show in Zwei. I liked his small role in the first Gravion series but he becomes even cooler once he became a G Soldier(even though his special attack kinda sucks). Eiji is still my fav of the series though. Down with Toga!

Rightstuf used to be my main source of anime ordering but a friend had exposed me to places that sell titles cheaper than even with the Got Anime? membership prices. I still plan on renewing my card though 'cause combing that with coupons rocks plus they still have some kickass sales(though mostly online & you need a credit card).
