Therianthropy is A very old study. It dates back to the acient times. It is a concept of a human can change his or her form in to an animal. Examples are werwolfism and weretigerism. The cause is still unknow of how and why but we do know what triggers a change *moon light*.

Lycans are different from werewolves... Lycans transform into full wolves and werewolves transform so that they have wolf-like physical characteristics. Lycans transform at will and werewolves by moonlight.

Oh.. That's really interesting. So are there other instances where someone can turn into a full animal? ( like Lycans?)

curses are a cause for example if someone by the anciant catholic beleaf sold they're soul to satan chances are tat the will be cursed to remain emprisoned in the form of a warewolf wearing a cloak and tat only by removing the cloak (which for some reason is very hard) can the curse be lifted giving the person back they're soul.
but thats just a legend i read.

Therians are a type of otherkin. They are closley related to the erth and ussually a type of animal. Some believe that they were animals in thier last life, or that thier soul is that of an animal trying to live in human form.

Thats pretty much all I know about Therians.

Squee. My research is becoming helpful!

Therians are people that believe they have a non-human, non-mythic soul. Most/many believe in reincarnations, which explains how they have to soul of a cat/mouse/ferret/squirrel. (I know a squirrel therian.) They completely acknowledge that they ARE, in fact, human, but believe, like a transgendered person, that they are in the wrong body.

They have mental and dream "shifts" where they are most in tune with the instincts of their animal. They are very skeptical of anyone who says they can physically shift, simply because they are a largely intelligent group. They help you out, but they know if you're just faking it, you'll grow out of the game, just like a pretend Wiccan or Satanist or...anything really.

They spend tons of time in doubt and research, trying to make sure that they aren't just crazy. A lot of people find what they believe crazy or insane, and sometimes, so do they. But they trust what they find in their souls as truth.

The therian culture is really interesting and the people there are really fun. Just...never compare them to furries or you may get hurt. xD

Also, the term lycan was created in the club subculture of New York and never had any long-term mythos attributed to it.
Werewolves in tons of cultures have turned into full wolves and many have been able to do it at will.

Oh me.... When you say that they are mostly in tune with the instincts of their animal when they dream or sleep, does that mean like they could have dreams where they themselves actually ...um....remember something from a past life? I don't know how to explain it.... Like, say someone had a dream they were a Falcon, wings and all, and something happened to them, then they could rememebr it and kind of feel closer to their inside incarnation?.....I think I asked that wrong....

Hi! Any way, I am an other-kin myself, and I would like to explain a little. Other-kin can and at times do, spirit-shift into a certain animal. I am a Dragon with wolven characteristics. I don't know how this is possible, but I am. The easiest thing for me to generate using my energy is my tail. I often have dreams of flying, and of forests surrounded by mountains. I think this was my home in the past......

Thanks. I was about to ask if it were possible for a therianthrope to have the soul of a 'mythical' creature. My own beliefs when it comes to said creatures probably differs a bit from the others in this guild. I do believe in them, but... differently. I don't know much about it, and I think it's probably one of those things you can only really understand through being one. I'm completely normal- I'm not a therianthrope.
But anyway. I've been writing a story about a therianthrope who has the soul of a phoenix (that choice is more symbolic than anything, and important to the story). Said character isn't Wiccan, has no idea of why she experiences the things she does when in a deep meditative/trance state, and never finds out, either. Partially, the therianthropy could be a result of a degree of insanity, but I'm not writing her that way, but it's never explained, and to a reader that has no knowledge of other-kin, she'd seem a little bit crazy. It'll probably never end up here in a contest or newsletter, though, because it doesn't really relate to Wicca, and her being an other-kin is critical, but minor, in the story.

What does everyone else think about the probability of a phoenix 'reincarnating' into the soul of a human (crap, just realized the problem with that- the phoenix is immortal).
