Snow covered the ground as Chailyn kicked at it with her snow boots. Her purple eyes watched as it glittered in the sunlight, falling back to the ground. It was fluffy snow, not slick or packed down, almost like a glittery powdered sugar.
The shop district of Barton was crowded for the most part. Her mother was inside a small shop trying to get the last few gifts for Chailyn's friends. It was taking longer than expected and Anemone had suggested Chailyn wait outside, in the hope she wouldn't find anymore gifts to buy.
It was nice to be outside in the cool air, playing with snow. Still Chai was beginning to feel a little lonely and even smaller. This was her second Christmas and unlike her friends she hadn't grown up. She couldn't decide if she was happy to still be small or sad she hadn't grown.
A moment passed and she began to wander down the street. Her mind pre-occupied, she didn't much notice she was starting to get further away from the shop her mother was in. She needed to find a friend.

Adonis lay as close to his steed's warm body as he could. They soared through the air of the cold winter night, and he couldn't stand the brittle feel of the wind scratching what delicate skin was exposed. He pressed his face against the fur of his pegasi, and groaned.
"Oh, you fragile thing. Do you need another break? We're not that far from home."
Donny groaned again, but nodded into the fur. "'S cold." He mumbled childishly. They were high, and the wind up there was like knives against his cheeks. The pegasi reluctantly began his descent into Barton, looking for a low lit spot to land, away from the bustle of people and shops. He saw a nice spot, and circled around for a landing.
Donny lifted his head once they were closer to the ground; and what a shock he received. Only a hundred feet away he could see the small but telltale figure of Chailyn. He perked and pointed, nudging his pegasi just a little forward. "Frey, over there. That's a friend of mine!"
Frey whinnied in disagreement. "Too many people over there. You can go walk yourself if you're so desperate to see her."
Donny was surprised by the indignance, but let it slide. Once they were close enough to the ground, Donny slid off his steed and began a run towards Chailyn. "Chai! Chaichai!" He called out, waving to her with a grin. His nose and cheeks were red as an apple, but he had forgotten the cold for the moment.

Chailyn's head perked up, her mouth forming a smile as she looked around. There was only one person who said her name like that. The red cheeks and nose made her do a double take, as she was used to seeing him all golden.
"Donny!" she called back to him. She jumped up waving her arms above her head before rushing to meet him. Instinctively she jumped into her friends arms, hugging him and grinning. "It's so great to see you!" she sung out happily.
For the moment it was definately good to be little, who would turn down being hugged by a friend? Chailyn wasn't about to do that. She would rather be small forever if it meant she could easily be hugged.
"Mom's in the shop buying your Christmas present!" she blurted out. She giggled and then looked around. All the shops looked the same from here. "Well she's in one of them..." she blushed.

Donny's arms were open, welcoming the jumping girl as she leapt into them. He caught her and twirled her around before settling her in his arms. Chai was just so huggable! "I can't believe I stumbled on you like this, I was half-awake when I noticed." He listened to the reason why she was out there before he could even ask, while cuddling her close for her own warmth as well as for his sake.
"I see. I've bought your present already, it's in the mail. I hope you like it. I think you will." He nodded knowingly. He was a little surprised that Chai was out here all alone, but the girl was smart, like him. He knew she could handle it. Still, he thought, he'd stick around with her for a while, until her mom came back.
"So, it's been a while since I've seen you! This is a very cute winter outfit. Do you like mine?" He was especially proud of his winter clothing, which made him look like some sort of professional skiier. He had never ski'd a day in his life.
He walked them back towards Frey, who was edging himself out of line of sight of a group of carollers. 'Tis the season to leave droppings, he thought silently to himself with a grouch.

"You got me a present?" Chai smiled a little shocked. She'd only gotten one Christmas present from a friend, so far. "That's so nice, I'm sure I'll love it," she grinned.
She looked over him nodding her head, "You look handsome, Donny!" It was hard to think of another word that would fit him. She could probably get away with saying cute but it sounded silly.
Hesitating for a minute, she watched him walk away before rushing after him. She smiled taking his hand, her mind momentarily forgetting about her mother. Besides, she was with her friend Donny. Who could be better company for her?
"How is Viddy and Harmony? And everyone?" she asked. She had to admit she really didn't remember Enoh or Nio but she did remember Vidya and Harmony.

"Yes, I know." He mused, smiling softly. He did look handsome, after all. As handsome as a child could be.
"Viddy's good, I think.. she might be getting a little sick. Seems tired, but you know her, she's happy no matter what! Harmony hasn't been home much. She's very defiant lately, she goes on trips and stuff and doesn't even tell me. Such nonsense. I've given her up as my pet, she's just not what I need. I have a new one, it's very pretty. It's from my dad's friends shop, a Mozou. It smells like lemons!"
He rambled on happily, chattering about everyday things. It made him feel warm and content to talk about things easily like this.
"So, how is everyone in your family?" He asked as they reached Frey, who sidled up to Chailyn immediately in order to be a source of warmth for the younger Tale. He was parental like that. It was why he took care of Donny, after all. "Hm. Do you have a Mozou?" He wondered, still thinking about his lemony friend.

Chailyn frowned a bit, Vidya was getting sick? She didn't like the sound of that. She was sure that Viddy would find a way to be happy even if she was sick but still, it was never good to be sick. "Viddy'll have to rest lots and keep warm," she said with a smile.
Harmony on the other hand, she was conflicted about. It was good that Harmony was doing what she wanted but not so good that she wasn't listening to Donny. Then again Chai didn't think Harmony liked being Donny's pet. "I'm sure your new pet will be much better, Donny! Harmony didn't like being a pet...not sure why, it sounds like fun," she giggled. It sounded quite silly to prance through the park on a leash or some such pet activity.
Frey looked majestic, quite fitting for Donny, and Chailyn hugged the pegasi. She smiled up at him wishing she had a carrot or apple for the pretty winged horse. "Everyone's fine. Mom seems quite happy and that makes me happy!"
"No...I don't have a Mozou. What's it look like?" She had cats and a few other creatures but no Mozou. Perhaps she'd heard of them, she wasn't quite sure. Although a lemon smelling Mozou sounded rather pretty.

Donny didn't like thinking about Harmony. Though he considered her a pet, and under his control, she did help raise him more than any other member of the family, save for his own father. They had spent the most time together, and now things were changing.
Donny hated change.
"Hm, yes. Being my pet is fun, a fun honor I'd say." He nodded, before briskly moving away from the whole Harmony subject. "I'm glad you're happy." He replied with a smile, watching her hug his pegasi. A sliver of worry shot through him at the movement, but he relaxed when he saw Frey's response.
Frey let out a soft snort in surprise as the young girl hugged him. She reminded him of a younger Donny, always so affectionate and loving. What had happened to that boy, he wondered. He nuzzled his muzzle against Chai's head lightly for a moment in affection, before letting out a snort in Donny's direction. Kids.
"Oh, they're like very long, elegant felines." He responded concerning Mozou, while his eyes lit up. Suuure he'd already gotten Chai a present, but Mozou's were special, and they were on sale. It looked as though all his Christmas shopping wasn't done just yet!
In his reverie of plotting, Donny failed to notice Frey scooping up a small amount of snow with his muzzle, which then was flung in his direction. The boy sat there blinking, with a smattering of snow across his face.

Chailyn could see that Donny didn't like talking about Harmony, it seemed that more might be bothering them too. She gave a smile to Frey petting his neck before turning back to her friend. "Elegant felines. I wonder what the cats are home would think," she gave a soft laugh which only erupted more when she saw Donny hit with snow. She couldn't help it, he looked so stunned and yet so adorable.
"Frey's trying to start a snow fight!" she laughed. She walked over to Donny brushing the snow from his face gently, still giggling. She motioned over to the pegasi with her head, bending down to scoop up some snow. They'd have to retaliate.
She packed the snow together as best she could before turning and tossing it towards Frey. Even though it completely missed, she still laughed. Snowballs were not her forte but it was fun to try. "Let's get him Donny!" she shouted with a grin, hoping it would take his mind off things.

Donny allowed Chai to brush the snow off his face, before shaking his head to get the last of it off. His eyes narrowed as he glared at the pegasi, who took a step back. There was no malice in that glare, just pure mischief, and Frey didn't know what was worse. He had just decided to go for a little walk away from the two when a snowball flew past his nose. It missed, but still; it was a beginning! He huffed at the little one, chiding her for missing.
"Yes. Let's." Donny murmured, reaching down to grab a handful of snow in each hand. He packed it, and stood up. This movement notified Frey of his actions, and the pegasi bucked, backing up to turn and scamper off. "Now, Chai!" He hurled the snowball at Frey, hoping there was anothing one on the way. He didn't wait to look. With a giggle, he crouched down and began making snowballs as fast as he could, hurling them at his steed.
Frey backed up awkwardly, knocking away snowball after snowball with his wings. One landed square in his nose, and he sneezed. "Mercy, mercy!" He cried out, though the laughter in his voice suggested that he really wasn't too worried.

Chailyn picked up snow patting it together to form a snowball. She scooped up more snow to make it fit better in her hand and when Donny shouted, she heaved it towards the pegasi. She laughed gleefully as it soared through the air and ducked down to scoop up more snow.
"Bless you!" she chuckled as Frey sneezed. She patted the next snowball together but tossed it straight up in the air causing flakes to fall before it hit her on the head. "I'm a Chai-sundae with whipped snowball!" she giggled.
Apparently being with Donny brought out the need to be a little clowny. Not only could she be his confidant but she could be the girl that made him laugh.

Donny had his hand up in the air, snowball poised and ready to throw, when he turned and watched Chai throw one on herself. His head cocked slowly, and his eyes widened. Uh oh.
The snowball flew at Chai, aimed for her shoulder. It looked like Donny had a new target! He yelped in laughter as soon as he'd thrown it, stumbling to his feet and looking for cover to hide from retaliation. There was a bench, perfect! He slid behind it, and began to hoarde up snowballs in wait. Of course, he hadn't thrown the snowball very hard, since they were so close to each other, and he didn't think he had much of a chance of hitting her with many of these anyway, but .. snowball fight! heart
Frey lowered his wings as the barrage stopped. He shook himself vigorously, letting the snow and water sprinkle off his body, before watching the ensuing events in amusement. Kids.

Chailyn blinked as snow smeared against her shoulder. She giggled turning to look at Donny as he ran to hide. "I'm gonna get you for that!" she threatened in a fit of giggles. She looked around but rather than hide she just gathered more snow.
Her small hands gathered it up and she laughed throwing snowballs towards Adonis. She didn't really bother to aim, opting to just lifting her arm and toss them. It was more fun to just toss them than actually hit someone with them.

Donny stood up slightly as snowballs fell to his left and right, and he watched them curiously. He was so amused by Chai's helpless inability to hit him that he failed to notice the snowball hailing directly into his face. It smacked him good, and he had just managed to wince his eyes before it hit, splattering all over and leaving him covered in white.
"Ooooh.." He growled playfully, shaking his face clean. "OooOOOoOOOOooohh.. that's it!" Snowballs abandoned, he jumped over his hideaway and scampered for her, making to tackle her into the snow and tickle her in retaliation for the shot.
If she didn't run from his tackling attempt, Frey would hop over to the two as Adonis tickled her, and begin shoveling snow on top of them both with his muzzle, as if trying to bury them in a mound of snow.

Chailyn laughed as one of her snowballs hit him in the face. Not that she would aim but somehow she'd hit him. He looked like a sparkly, skiing snowboy and she was much too busy laughing to run or even think it. Her laughing calmed to giggles as she turned to scurry off a little but she was still a toddler and found she was much slower than Donny.
As she was tackled, her laughter bubbled over as he tickled her. She laughed harder as Frey tried to bury them. It didn't long for her to start coughing from laughing so hard, her throat starting to ache just enough to make her calm down.
"He's trying to turn us into snow people," she giggled at Frey. He was a silly pegasi but beautiful enough for Donny. Or perhaps it was the other way around and Donny was beautiful enough for him. Either way it worked though she was positive Donny would insist that Frey had been made for him.
She knew Donny didn't think he belonged to anyone, except maybe as a brother to Vidya. But he wasn't Frey's pet, just like Harmony hadn't been his sister. No, Frey was Donny's pet just like Harmony had been his pet.
