That title really got your attention, eh? I know, I'm a genuis. Now get ready for another Hawk rant:

So I was watching the Final Fantasy Versus 13 trailer today. Looks pretty good, since it has all that deep Kingdom Hearts- style meaning in it. Trailer can be found here. I probably won't get it since I have no desire to pay for a PS3...

Anyways, let's get to the point. An interesting quote comes up at the beginning of the trailer that made me think. Went something like this:

There is nothing either good or bad,
but thinking makes it so.
-William Shakespeare

And that got me thinking... is there anything really good or evil?

My opinion: no. They don't exist. Good and evil are mere opinions from one person's point of view. Take religious wars for example. Both sides thought they were fighting for what was right, good, etc. and thought they were destroying "evil."

So maybe good and evil were fabrications of religion? No. It's not just religion. It's people's opinions and views in general. Oh yes, religion helps inspire it and turn heads in the other direction. But for the most part, it's from a person's memories, experiences, and friends that good and evil become defined in the mind.

Ok. This is all pretty obvious. But I thought it was interesting and wanted to get some feedback from y'all. So dicuss. Good and evil. What are they? Or just anything else that I mentioned above.

And your own interpretation of the quote? I think it has more meanings behind it; my current limited attention-span prevents me from discovering them.

Ah yes.. Religious wars are what started the Thirty Year's War in Europe during 1618-1648. Tore alot of Europe up just because England wanted its Bohemian subjects to return to the Roman Catholic Church. And in the end after involving most of Europe including Russia and Prussia, it only opened a door for independent states and more wars.

There is no good and evil.
It truely is just thought.

I am Good.
You are Evil.
I must destroy You.

Thats how it goes.
Doesn't mean it is right.

I don't really believe in good or evil... just human nature.

Kirby's book is entirely abuot this subject. There is really no good or evil, black or white...there is only grey. Good and Evil are illusions from the mortal mind, a justification, an accusation, a lie. Nothing can be wholly good or wholly evil, but everything there is can be wholly in between.

Now, see, there are things that seem good...and there are things that seem bad...but it really isn't. Like, candy. Candy seems good, but if you give a Reese's cup to a peanut allergy dude, they'll die. And wars seem bad to many peple, good to many others. Hell, even death seems wholly bad, but it isn't. It's just part of life.

And oh the irony, I just said hell as a curse. It's my firm belief that heaven and hell are the same place, because no one person is better than another.

And that, my friends, is why I vote atheist.

Or, no, Satanist. Someone called me a satanist because the religion I would believe in fo the rest of my life doesn't exist.

Yes it does. It's called Aristophanism. (cookie for reference)

Pff.
I believe in the concept of good and evil.

Good= I know what is right, I choose to abide by it. Not a belief system, but the fundementals of living. Live and let live.

Evil= I know what is right, I understand the concpets of the simplistic human urges and I comprehend the basic rules. I choose not to abide by it.
I knwo what is wrong and I do it anyways, not for nescessity but for my own urges. I am Danny Rollins, I am Jeffrey Dahmer, I am Ted Bundy and Adofl Hitler. I am evil.

Adolf Hitler was going to be a priest, you know.

No judging. Leave that to the monotheistic God to judge, and let it go.

I take more of an existentialist view myself. Man never chooses evil; what man does is always good. You don't say you're going to do something evil; if you choose something that might not have been a good decision (in that there will be consequences), you will justify it to yourself in saying that it was a good decision.

Example: Robbing a grocery store because you need food.
