The purpose of this topic is meant to help you understand some of the more difficult (and hidden) aspects of the game and help you to create your "ultimate team."
Topics that will be covered are: Individual Values(IVs): What they are and how to find out what your Pokemon's Ivs are. Effort Values(EVs)What they are and do. and with a complete list of what EVs every Pokemon gives you. Natures and how they affect your pokemon. Hidden Power and how to find what type it is and it's power level. Experience Points and how to find out how fast your Pokemon will grow. Pokerus How you get it and what it does Umbeon and Espeon How to get Eevee to evolve to these forms. Feebas & Milotic How to capture and evolve the rare Feebas. Shiny Pokemon What's so special about them? Mirage Island Solving the Mystery Trading How to trade between the various versions of the third generation games. If there is anything else someone would like me to cover please feel free to PM me or another Mod, for the thread has been closed to avoid further spam.
For an Example of certain aspects I'm going to use my Male Lv 100 Charmander with the following stats: HP-213 Attack-139 Defence-133 Sp. attack-156 Sp. Defence-123 Speed-147 Also it's nature is Relaxed, which raises his maximum Defence by 10% and lowers his maximum Speed by 10%.

IVs OK everyone knows that each pokemon is different, but many don't know why. One of the main things that makes each pokemon different is their Individual Values, or Ivs. IVs? What the heck is an Iv? IVs, as already stated, are what makes each pokemon different. Every Stat has its own IV number on a scale of 0-31, the higher the Iv the higher that paticular stat is compaired to its base Stat. Ivs cannot be changed and are fairly difficult to find what they are, but it is worth finding ivs early on so you can find out how powerful your pokemon is. To find Iv's you first need to know Level, Base stats, Nature effects, and EVs (disscussed later). Base stats are exactly what they sound like, the are the starting stats of each pokemon and cannot be edited or changed untill a pokemon Evolves. Now for an Example I will list the Base stats of a Charmander. Hp-39 Attack-52 Defence-43 Sp Attack-60 Sp. Defence-50 Speed-65 Base stats can be found at sites like http://www.serebii.net/Also need to be taken into consideration is a pokemons nature. I will not discuss natures right now, they will be in a later post. But my Charmander is of a Relaxed nature. Also my charmander has no EVs added to it. Ok so to find a pokemons Ivs you need to Calculate it out using a 2 rather complicated equations. There is one for Hp and another for every other stat. Ok so here are the Equations: Iv=((Math Ceiling(stat/Personality Value)-5)*100/Level Value)-2* Base Stat-Math Floor(EV/4) HpIv=((Stat-level Value-10)*100/Level Value)-2*Base stat-Math floor(ev/4) Don't make a lot of sence do they? rofl Let me break it down- Math Ceiling is basically Roundup while Math Floor is Round down. Stat is what that paticular stat is currently Personality value is the Effect of the Pokemon's nature, Mine is a Relaxed nature so I get a 10% bonus in Defence and a 10% reduction in speed gonk . The Chart for Personality values is in a later post. To incorperate this into the formula, for ever bonus that is a 1.1 and reductions are .9. Level Value is the pokemon's current level Base stat is well, it's base stat for that paticular Stat. Evs- are the EVs from that paticular stat, and that is Toatal Evs, not the bonus it gives. Ok enough jabbering, time for an Example. lets calculate the Speed Iv of my Charmander Iv=((Math Ceiling(stat/Personality Value)-5)*100/Level Value)-2* Base Stat-Math Floor(EV/4) now I'll put in all the Values Iv=((Math Ceiling(147/.9)-5)*100/100)-2*65-Math Floor(0/4) Iv=((164)-5)*1)-130-0 Iv=159-130 Iv=29 So out of 31 I have a Charmander with a IV of 29, that is Really good. Now for Hp: HpIv=((Stat-level Value-10)*100/Level Value)-2*Base stat-Math floor(ev/4) Base equation HpIv=((213-100-10)*100/100)-2*39-Math floor(0/4) HpIV=((103)*1)-78-0 HpIV=103-78 HpIV=25 So I have an HP iv of 25. Results are more accurate with higher levels and with no EVs, So save up rare candies because they will not effect EVs. Also you can Level a pokemon up, copy it's stats and turn the game off without saving. Now everyone must be wondering how do I get one with good ivs. Well you might get lucky and get one in the Wild but it's not likly. The best way to get good IVs is by breeding. My current charmander is the 3rd generation of Charmander and has the following IVs: Hp-25 Attack-30 Defence-30 Sp. Attack-31 Sp. Defence-18 Speed-29 Total-163 (186 max) Took me a week to get this one, so anyone wanting good Ivs will have to have a lot of patience. For everyone to Know I have a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet that will calculate my Ivs in no time. So if you want to know how I laided it out Please feel free to post it in this topic.

EVs Now that the Main part is out of the way its time to discuss the one thing you have control over, Effort Values or EVs. To make it simple ever pokemon you beat will give you an Ev point, and for every 4 points you get that is 1 stat point added to that paticular stat. The list of what Evs each pokemon gives you is later in this post. There is a 510 point limit to how many TOTAL Ev points you can have. Also there is a 255 point limit on each stat, so you can only have 255 points in Hp for example. So for example my Charmander KOs a Oddish which give you one EV point in Sp. attack. He Kos 3 more oddishes So that is 3 more Ev points. So lets say after KO ing 12 oddish's he gains a level, so he will get an addtional bonus of +3 in Sp.attack for beating 12 oddish's (12/4=3). Now lets say you were level 100, so does this mean you cannot gain any EVs? No, just deposit the pokemon in a box and take it out and the game will recalculate it. Now there are some ways to speed this up a bit. One is the Macho Brace, which for a Speed reduction will give you 2x the ammount of Evs. So oddish will now give you 2 Ev points in Sp. attack. Also there is the Pokerus Virus ( discussed later) which will also double the ammount of points you get. If you have a pokemon with pokerus and a macho brace it will get 4 times the number of EV points, so and oddish will give you 4 points in Sp. attack. Also you know all those items like Hp up and Protein? They add 10 EV points per time you use one, with a max of 10 per stat. So you use 10 Hp ups, thats 100 ev points or a 25 point increase in HP. Exp Share and swaping pokemon divides the experience you get between the pokemon the battled or has Exp Share. This isn't the case with EVs. If you have a pokemon that has Exp share or is swaped in and it beats and Oddish both it and the other pokemon will get 1 point in Sp.attack. # 1 - 151 EVs Bulbasaur - 1 SA Ivysaur - 1 SA, 1 SD Venusaur - Nature Effects As we know every pokemon has a nature, but not all know what they do exactly. Ever nature adds a 10% bonus to one stat and a 10% decrease to another. Some stats do nothing becase they are Increasing and Decreasing the same stat, these are neutral natures they are: Hardy Docile Serious Bashful Quirky Now I will list the other 20 natures by what they increase and followed by what they decrease. The following increase Attack: Lonely-Defence Adamant-Sp. attack Naughty-Sp. Defence Brave-Speed The following increase Defence: Bold-Attack Impish-Sp. attack Lax-Sp. Defence Relaxed- Speed The following Increase Sp. Attack: Modest-Attack Mild-Defence Rash-Sp. Defence Quiet-Speed The following Increase Sp. Defence: Calm-Attack Gentle-Defence Careful-Sp. Attack Sassy-Speed The Following Increase Speed: Timid-Attack Hasty-Defence Jolly-Sp. attack Nave-Sp. defence

Hidden Power Almost everyone knows about hidden power, they know that it's not really a normal move and can be any other type but normal. Most just don't know why it is a paticular type and what it's attack Value is. As already stated Hidden Power can be any move type exept normal and has a power of anywere from 30 to 70. What determines what type and how powerful it is are IVs. So if you don't know your pokemons Ivs you can find it's type, but not it's attack power. So to find you pokemons Type you can just keep attack variaous pokemon and use process of elimination, or you can use the following Equations. (T1+T2+T3+T4+T5+T6)*15/63 Now here the Expination of what they will be: If IV Hit points is odd, then T1=1 If IV Attack is odd, then T1=2 If IV Defence is odd, then T1=4 If IV Speed is odd, then T1=8 If IV Sp. Attack is odd, then T1=16 If IV Sp. Defence is odd, then T1=32 So if you have an Iv that is even the number will be Zero So as an example lets look at my trusty Charmander Hp-25 Attack-30 Defence-30 Sp. Attack-31 Sp. Defence-18 Speed-29 So (T1+T2+T3+T4+T5+T6)*15/63 (1+0+0+8+16+0)*15/63 25*15/63 5.952380952 So it's about a 6 If the number you get is the following that will be your type. 0=Fighting 1=Flying 2=Poison 3=Ground 4=Rock 5=Bug 6=Ghost 7=Steel 8=Fire 9=Water 10=Grass 11=Electric 12=Psychic 13=Ice 14=Dragon 15=Dark So my charmander would have a Ghost Type Hidden power, which by the way pisses me off to no end rofl Now to calculate attack power you use this Equation (P1+P2+P3+P4+P5+P6)*40/63+30 Once again here is how it works If IV of Hit points when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P1=1 If IV Attack when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P2=2 If IV Defence when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P3=4 If IV Speed when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P4=8 If IV Sp. Attack when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P5=16 If IV Sp. Defence when divided by 4 has a Remainder of 2 or 3, then P6=32 Confusing? To try and prevent confusion When you divide you IV by 4 Unless the number you get from that ends in a .50 or .75 then your P=0. Example: Hp-25/4=6.25, so P1=0 Attack-30/4= 7.5, so P2=2 Defence-30/4= 7.5, so P3=4 Speed-29/4= 7.25, so P4=0 Sp. Attack-31/4= 7.75, so P5=16 Sp. Defence-18/4= 4.5, so P6=32 (P1+P2+P3+P4+P5+P6)*40/63+30 (0+2+4+0+16+32)*40/63+30 54*40/63+30 34.28571429+30 64.28571429 So its about 64 Attack points, which doesn't matter to me because my Charmander has Hidden Power GHOST!!! scream

Experience Points Ok kind of a Retarded thing to post, but it's mechanics anyway. So everyone knows that you gain levels by battling and getting Experience points. I hope everyone knows that there are different maximum Experience points (how many you need to be level 100). So as you guessed it this dicates how fast your pokemon Grows. There are 6 Types of pokemon Growth rates. Each of the following number are for Level 100 pokemon. Erratic=600,000 Exp Fast=800,000 Exp Medium-Fast= 1,000,000 Exp Medium Slow= 1,059,860 Slow=1,250,000 Fluctuating=1,640,000 Now here are the Equations to find out what you pokemon is: Fast=.8(Current Level)^3 Medium-Fast=(current level)^3 Medium-slow=1.2(current level)^3-15(current level)^2+100(current level)-140 Slow=1.25(current level)^3 So to find out what you pokemon's stats are you put in it's level in each Equation and find out which one is closest to your pokemon's actual Experience. (Erratic and Fluctuating Equations are Unknown so try to guess by your results) There is an explaination on how to determine how much Experience you will get, but there is a list missing so I cannot complete that explaination, sorry.

Pokerus This is a Simple topic. Pokerus is a Virus that can infect your pokemon and Double the number of EVs you get. It is completly Random. To get it you must battle or capture a pokemon with pokerus, although you cannot tell weither that wild pokemon has pokerus or not. In R/S when you take a pokemon to the Pokemon center Nurse joy will tell you when your pokemon has pokerus. Once in you party it will infect all of your team. Pokerus will eventually wear off, but if you stick a pokemon with pokerus in a box it will keep it and not wear off, so you can reinfect the rest of your team. rofl

Umbreon and Espeon I'm not sure why, but I'll post this for the Hell of it. You cannot get Espeon and Umbreon in Fire Red and Leaf green. To get them you must max out Eevee's happiness and make it gain a level after you have done this. The hitch is what evolution you get depends on what time of day it is. If it is between 12 am and 12 pm you will get Umbreon If it is Between 12 PM and 12 AM you will get Espeon Simple no? rofl

Feebas & Milotic: A Catching/Evolving GuideOne of the most annoying aspects of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald is catching Feebas. The Hoenn Pokedex lists it as #140, whlie the National Dex lists it as #349. This water type Pokemon somewhat resembles Magikarp in many aspects, from its less than spectacular appearence to its mediocre movesets. One difference, however, is that Feebas can learn egg moves from its father when bred. The other difference is its evolution, whereas Magikarp evolves into the ferocious Gyarados, Feebas evolves into the sleek and beautiful Milotic. However, capturing the dreaded little Fish Pokemon is a quest in itself. First of all, Feebas is found along Route 119 by fishing. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong. While Route 119 is filled with water and there are many places to fish, there are only six places in that water where that nasty little fish appears. So you're thinking, I'll just ask my friend Joe which tile he caught his Feebas on, right? Wrong again! These six tiles are random! However, the location of these six tiles can and will change when you change the trendy phrase in Dewford Town. The only way to catch Feebas is to be patient and thourough in your searches, and though you'll encounter many Carvanha along the way, you will eventually see a Feebas at the end of your hook. Remember that you can surf and fish at the same time, and you must do so to search every single tile. Once you do find that glorious Feebas (and hopefully it is a female, so that you may breed til your heart's content and also obtain some of its awesome Egg Moves), do not breathe a sigh of relief yet, for there is still much more to do before you can lay your hands on your gorgeous Milotic. Evolving Feebas isn't much easier than catching it. In order for it to change forms, you must max out its Beauty and raise it by one level in order for it to evolve. You'll have a much easier time if your Feebas likes dry (blue)flavored Pokeblocks best (a nature of Quiet, Rash, Modest or Mild), and avoid ones that dislike the dry flavor (Adamant, Careful, Impish and Jolly). When you feed your Feebas Pokeblocks, you'll want to use the best and only the best Blue (or Dry) Pokeblocks you can, meaning Wiki and Cornn Berries are optimal. Once your Feebas has gobbled them all down gratefully, check its status with the PokeNav. Does the Beauty section touch the edge of the grid? If it does, your Feebas should evolve into Milotic when you raise its level by one. One more thing before you start cramming those blue blocks into your Feebas: SAVE FIRST! That way, if your Pokeblocks weren't good enough quality, and the little bugger doesn't evolve, you can try again to make better ones. However, if you did your job properly, you'll be rewarded with Milotic. Congratulations! Edited by Airelesanya

Shiny Pokemon This is another DUH! kinda topic. There are different colored pokemon, everyone knows this. They are hard to find and very rare. In Silver and gold they had high stats but in the 3rd gen games only their color is special. You have a 1 in 8,192 chance of finding a Shiny pokemon. It's been said that Breeding a Shiny pokemon increaces the chance of getting a shiny pokemon in an egg, but this is not confirmed and unlikly.

Routes 129, 130 & Mirage Island Quote: "Normally, passing through Route 129 is a breeze--nothing but a whole lot of water and a smattering of Trainers to contend with. But once in a great while, Mirage Island materializes in the middle of the waterway. Some say its extremely rare appearance is a result of weather conditions; others say it's a matter of luck. Finding Mirage Island is purtly a matter of luck. Don't bother looking for it unless the man peering outhis window in Pacifidlog Town tells you it's there. If he does, head east and explore the cryptic landmass before it vanishes. Too Good to be TrueIf you have the good fortune to explore Mirage Island, don't leave until you've collected its unique treasures. Wynaut run wild on the isle, so collect as many as you an before you leave--you may not be back for a very long time. Also pick the Liechi Berries from the plant. You should sow such rare berries so you can grow many more--just don't do it in Mirage Island's fleeting berry patch. The Mystery of Mirage IslandInside a floating hut (in Pacifidlog Town), an old man stares out his window. Speak to him to learn whether he's currently spotting Mirage Island. Its appearance is extremely rare, so if he spots it, head east to the island--pronto! Check in with the old man every day. He mighs see the island, which appears only once in a blue moon." Trading Some people don't know how to trade to the various games so I will list how to do it for each game here. Ok for the LG/FR you must get the National Pokedex and give the Ruby and Saphire plates to Celio in the Island 1 pokemon center. To get the National Pokedex you must own 60 pokemon or more on your pokedex and beat the Elite 4 once. On the path to Mt. Ember you will see 2 rockets talking, if you came before you beat the Elite 4 they will just tell you to go away, but when you come back after beating the E4 you can fight them and get to the cave they just opened up. Follow the path and get the Ruby Plate and give it Celio. Once you give it to him he will give you the Rainbow Pass and you can go to the Rest of the Sevii Islands and tell you about the Saphire plate. To get it you must get the two passwords to get into the Rocket hideout on Island 5. The first Ithink you get by beating a Rocket near the entrance to the Cave with the Ruby in it, and the second is given to you by the guy who steals the Saphire plate on island 6 inside the Ruins. Go to the hideout and get through the maze and beat the jerk that took the Saphire plate and get it from him. Once you give the Saphire to Celio he will make it so you can trade to R/S/E. As far as I know all you need to do for Emerald is get the National Pokedex by beating the Elite 4 and talking to Birch. R/S is the Easiest, just do a trade from FR/LG
