The Petal itself wasn't a particularly intimidating establishment-- quite friendly, actually. Nothing too loud or flashy-- simplicity. A less than popular bar on one of the less traveled strips of the mall nearby the oh-so-hidden Nest, there weren't many travelers who managed to make it to the doorway.
Thus, there truly was no need for a bouncer or anything of that sort-- instead, there simply was a lone bartender in the dimly lit main room, serving the few patrons who came his way. After all, even though business was slow, it didn't mean anything, right?
A total of nine empty stools-- and three occupied ones-- stood at the bar, with eight empty booths scatted about the room. Everything appeared to be clean-- which brought upon the question of what exactly was wrong with this place, other than that it wasn't near anything particularly fascinating.
Perhaps the answer would reveal itself.((I wax uncreative. xP))

Lately, nothing seemed particularly friendly to Shelby. His own parents had rended the family in two for reasons mysterious, though his suspicion was that it had something to do with the news of his brother's pregnancy. The timing was too coincidental...or perhaps both life-altering events were just too painful for Shelby to separate. In this was the first instance, to the demonbunny's recollection, of his father's omittance of an explanation - any explanation - on such a poignant issue. To say it weighed heavily on Shelby's mind, both in attention and outlook, would be a grievous understatement.
And this... this invitation... had become a reviled object to him. He could barely stand to touch it, yet the paper now rested comfortably within the palm of his closed fist, after he had meticulously folded it upon itself into a perfect paper square. He was so angered by it in fact, that he hAad memorized it to the letter while it was folded. Perhaps it was the invitation's randomness that drew him to this place, a mildly traveled avenue featuring a wart of a building known as The Petal.
Ugh! What the hell was up with that name? The Petal? Not just any petal, but The Petal. What was its symbolism, if any? And why was he fixated on a bar's name when he should be wondering just who had invited him, and how they knew of him in the first place? Were there spies lurking around the shop that he did not know of? Where they at home?
This visit would be the second strange confrontation suffered by Shelby in as many weeks and it left him on edge. And annoyed. Damn near pouty too...
Perhaps he had been hanging around Laramie and Asher too much lately.
Perhaps Ramon was behind all of this, and this would be his first test as the mysterious wolf's apprentice.
Peering inside with his bright, snakelike eyes, Shelby slid inside the door with a light swish of fabric. At least it was calm and sparsely populated here. In his heightened state of nervousness, a room full of potential enemies might just propel him right out the door again. But... perhaps this was a little too quiet, too clean. Weren't all bars supposed to have some kind of dirt-under-the-nails, cozy if not downright stifling atmosphere? Being the type to stay in, he honestly did not know.
Before advancing on the bar, he looked around for anyone that might be watching the door, particularly Ramon or his demonic ally. Finding none, he made his way to the bar, which while occupied was at least set up for singular patrons. He sat down, glanced at the bartender and those perched on the other stools, then away again, listening.
(( Please forgive the slow reply... ^^; ))

(No worries~ xD I'm slow sometimes too.)
In truth, there wasn't much to hear in the bar. Seishirou smiled, slipping over to the bunny with his trademark distant look, his singular eye fixing on Shelby as the other customers were taken care of as far as drinks were concerned. "Why, hello there," the angel greeted the other, trying to keep everyone straight.
Perhaps he was overexerting himself. That might... no. Not yet. He still had enough energy. "Is there anything I can get for you this evening?"
Who was assigned to this boy? One of the Emissaries or one of the Alliance members? Which one? Who was he?
A bunny. A young bunny with dark wisdom beyond his years, the scent of death fresh upon him, clinging to him like a babe to his mother's breast. Who would he fit best with? For wasn't that how Lucius had planned it out, setting each to his best counterpart?
Shelby. Hao's charge. The demon would be here shortly.

(( This is not my week for the internet. >.<; ))
Shelby peered up at the angel with guarded eyes. He had no reason to trust angels, and had more reason to trust demons at this point in time. It seemed ironic and brought a dark smirk to his lips. "No. I'm... fine."
The other's singular eye seemed to be probing, perhaps simply putting names and faces together? Measuring up a new face, one that could as easily become an ally as an enemy. Shelby did not blink under the scrutiny.

(See? Me slow. xP) The shaman didn't need a summons-- after all, he and Seishirou were bound together by a bond deeper than the trifles that called the other Alliance members together, scraps of paper with words written upon them. Words of power, true, but nothing more than words.
Gliding over to the bar, Hao smiled slightly at the bunny before glancing at Seishirou, dismissing him-- but not as one would dismiss a servant, more as one would ask a friend for time alone. Not that the word 'friend' meant much to either Hao or Seishirou. "You must be Shelby-- if I'm not mistaken?

(( I see, I see... o.o ))
Noting a certain familiarity that passed between the demon and angel, Shelby wondered if this was typical between members, or if these two were simply close for reasons beyond The Alliance. More important to Shelby, would he be expected to be friendly... social... open with others? No assumptions were being made, simply possibilities being weighed. "You are not mistaken," the demonbunny replied.

Seishirou moved off to the other side of the bar, busying himself with cleaning glasses. There had been so many passing through these doors-- he needed to keep up. Or hire some new help, but that would take a while...
"Well then. Welcome to the Petal, Shelby," Hao smiled ever so slightly. "You received the invitation then? Did you have time to give it any thought, or were there questions I could answer for you?"

Shelby smiled faintly in return, eyes half closed as he lifted a carefully-folded piece of paper and left it on the top of the bar. Yes, he had thought about it, and, he simply did not know enough about this Alliance to make a decision. Watching the invitation for a moment, he finally looked up at Hao. "I have a few questions." The bunnydemon inclined his head and lifted an eyebrow. "Let's start with... why?"

Straightforward and yet not at all-- somehow Hao had expected that route. "Why? Well, as for why you, it's mainly because of your association with one Ramon Dunsirn-- someone who's fast becoming friends with our group. As for why here, it's a safe location." As for the other whys, Shelby would have to be more specific.

Staring downward through his hands, Shelby frowned. So it did have something to do with Ramon. It had seemed like too big a coincidence for him not to be involved, in some way. And, if the only reason for their knowledge of him was Ramon... other, more unsavory groups may know as well. As he did not know very much about his new teacher, he would have to settle for asking after the Alliance.
"Tell me about the Alliance," he said finally, looking up at Hao. Specifics? Supposedly the Alliance had all the specifics. And Shelby was waiting to hear them.

Not wasting any time, was he? "There's not a lot to tell," Hao shrugged slightly. "The Alliance is essentially a group of individuals coming together to share their knowledge and abilities and offer protection in the event of an attack."

Shelby raised a delicate brow. If that's all there was, then this had been a waste of time. He was getting nowhere, really. "Supposedly... that is essentially what the pack leaders are trying to do. Why would I want to join your little club, over a group of those I know?" He smiled faintly. "Why would I trust, believe information provided by, or want to share anything with any of you..?"

"Who said we wanted anything from you?" Hao smiled. "At the moment, we simply thought we'd extend the same invitation to you that we extended to your teacher. We thought it... polite."
