Since Natsumi's faithfull visit, Newt had spent nearly all of his time locked away in his duplex. The only time had had resurfaced was to go swimming in secret in the lake, away from the scary octopus who would often yell at him as he tried to swim by, or the river which was even safer and more secluded. That afternoon, he sat at the waters edge staring at his contorted green reflection. He always seemed to do things wrong. No matter what it was, it wasn't right. Natsumi. He had tried so hard to try to get her attention... how were people supposed to... to do that? What had he done wrong? If it wasn't the fact he was a giant, bald, slimy, fat frog, then what was it? Was it his stutter? Because he was brittish? Too tall? Too short? He tried to think of the positive, of the things he knew were right, the presents, the attention... he would have done more, but he hadn't had the opportunity... A fresh wave of grief bubbled up over him and the more he watched his reflection, the more miserable his expression became, which in turn made him feel more miserable untill he suddenly broke out into a fit of terrible sobs.

Seth had more than one reason to wander throughout the various island paths today. One reason was because of the fact his instincts were telling him to expand his territory - no other creatures like him nearby meant no competition. Another reason was that a more solid escape plan had been formulating in his mind and he needed a starting place to begin his digging, perhaps look for supplies in his travels also. Though the chanches of coming across items he needed was highly unlikely.

The final reason to leave his duplex was that he had finally run out of alcohol, and thus had taken a trip to the island's beach-bar to steal and hoard more to stockpile in his room's small fridge. With that successfully done, he had carried three large bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey out with him, a pleased smirk on his face as he walked off without being spotted by anyone.

On his way back however, he passed by the river, and stopped in his tracks. He perked his ears up, at least as far as they would go anyway, and listened, silent. He heard a paticularly strange noise and sniffed the air, his thylacine instincts making him feel quite a bit edgy as he heard it. Though, curiousity soon overtook his fears, and he changed paths, heading further down towards the river to properly investigate.

He moved down to the river's edge, raising his eyebrow as he noticed a huge frog near the bank, still in the water. At least he had discovered the source of the sobs. The frog also looked familiar...

"Are you all right there, mate?" It was the stupidest question he could have asked, and he already knew the answer. But it was the only thing he could think of at the time to say.

At the sudden voice, the frog flinched but ultimatly didn't run like he usually did. "I... n-no! No, I'm r-really not!" Ah, well, at least he was honest. He didn't care who found him now. He didn't care who saw him cry.

Seth blinked for a moment, immediately recognising that stutter the instant that the frog-man opened his mouth.

"Hey, I know you," He said quickly, "You're that poor sod I met on the morning after I came here. But you look quite a bit different now... I guess the labs got to you again, huh?"

He set his precious cargo of stolen alcohol down on the muddy ground and crouched down towards the bank, raising an eyebrow at the frog man.

"What's wrong anyway? D'ya want to talk about it?"

"I j-j-just... d-don't know what's... wh-what's b-bloody WRONG with me! I... I t-try so hard and y-yet... I g-get no where! A l-little affection, is th-that t-too much to ask?" The frog moaned, shking his head. He didn't seem to recognize Seth, or at least was too wrapped up in his own misery to try to think back.

Seth gritted his teeth for a moment at Newt's question and sighed. He sat down on the bank of the river, promptly sitting up again as he discovered that it was damp, and that moisture had begun to seep through the seat of his pants. He quickly decided it would be better to adopt a kneeling position, before he turned his attention back Newt.

"Affection? I don't know too much about that, unfortunately." He looked unhappy as he admitted it, and he combed a clawed hand through his mess of hair, feeling somewhat awkward for mentioning the fact. "But this place is pretty bloody screwed up. I imagine it'd be pretty damn hard to get anything like that in your state... not that I am much better."

The tears poured down his cheaks and he pursed his lips, huddling down in his muddy crouch miserably. "I'm s-sorry, I sh-shouldn't have b-been y-yelling..." He sniffed.

Seth felt hopeless and a bit silly as he watched Newt sob on the muddy riverbank. How was he supposed to comfort a crying frog, anyway? He didn't even know how to comfort normal people at the best of times.

"You haven't been yelling, at least I don't think so." He quickly replied. "I don't know what happened and there's probably no useful advice I can offer. But cheer up there, there's probably nothing you can do now anyway."

"I... I'm s-sorry... I j-just..." He sniffled and whiped his amphibious nose on his muddy arm, only smearing the dirt, but he didn't seem to mind. "M-my.. my s-sweetheart j-just broke up with me." Leave it to Newt to use the term "Sweetheart" for his relationship with the geck-girl. He didn't have the most extensive knowlage of the activities boys and girls did together, nor the correct up-to-date terminology for such things. There was no need to add in, "And I feel just aweful"- the look on his face was plane as day.

"Oh, um... yeah, I really don't have any advice for you there. Sorry 'bout that, er, frog bloke..." Seth gave him a mild apologetic look, and felt rather useless in the given situation. "I don't have much experience in that department. I could always tell you to just forget about it, but that's not really goin' to cheer you up at the moment, now is it."

"I'm sure she was a nice sheila, but, Not much you can do about that now." He sighed, a paw reaching over for the liquor bottles he had stolen. "Some people like to forget their problems with this stuff though." He tapped the side of the whiskey bottle he had picked up with the tip of the claw on his index finger, indicating to it. "I've been doing that a lot recently, meself, just trying to drink and bury my own problems. It doesn't do much good in the long run, but what does?"

He held the bottle out towards Newt, offering it to him. Partly because he felt like the guy could do some good with it, and partly because he could always just steal more.

"Want some?"

Now, Newton was a young man who once, when he was seven curiously tried his father's bouron and was promptly forced to drink a glass to learn his lesson. After the sickness that ensued, he had never again touched a drop of alchohol, and was rather happy in his quiet tea-totalling way. Even as a frog, herbal water tasted fine and lovely on his stomach, despite the heat.

At that moment, though, he was looking at that bottle in a different light. His throat trembled in a distinctly froggish manner befor he wiped his nose on his arm and reached out with a timid webbed hand, "Ah... alright..." Why did relationships have to be so complicated and painfull? He hated other people.

"I'm not an alcoholic," Seth said the statement firmly, as if to silence any future questions or assumptions about himself. "But I'm not against drinking this stuff for fun or other purposes."

He uncapped the bottle and handed it over to Newt.

"Only problem now is that it's unmixed, and warm." He shrugged. "But if you don't have a problem with that, enjoy."

The frog didn't wait for the strange dog-like man to finish befor he tipped it back with a thick swallow and that old feeling came flooding back through him like a fire spreading under his slimy skin. He held the bottle out, round eyes wide as he stared at it. So he was seven years older than her, so what? She made him feel... different than other people. He was nervious in a different way around her. That had to count for something!

As the shot burned its way down his throat, he gave a rumbling shudder, throat inflating on either side as he gave a sudden weasing, "KrrrKIT!"

Seth rose to his feet immediately and backed up a couple of feet as he watched Newt's throat sac bulge, not wanting to be in the line of fire if he spat out his drink, or started coughing.

"Whoa, take it easy there, mate. Don't go killing yourself right off the bat." He muttered. "If you haven't gone drinking in a while, take it nice and slow at first. I just wish I had a glass to give you, or something."

His eyes were watering, bulged from his head and his pupils dialated into tiny points as he gave a frantic panting sort of suckling at the air, "Ah.... wuh.... wuh....."
