...Oh, thank you, thank you god...or Allah, or Buddha or whatever lived up there. Keanu had been stopped...for now. It wasn't necessarily the warmest feeling coming face to face with 144 again, s only when Paxton was headed down the stairs again did feel a bit better.
...An really now, why had he come up the stairs? Yeah, yeah to make sure Keanu was all right...and Cody...but this was like a case of the blind following the blind. No good could come of it! Which, ultimately was an ironic statement, since all they were trying to do was.... good.
A couple of grumbling sighs later, not to mention some pushing and shoving through the crowded stairwell, Paxton found himself out in the open air of the lobby. Oh--it felt so nice...small spaces were a nono for the lovebird.
--By the way, 144 was a horrible liar, blatantly obvious that the excuse was complete BS....but as long as it kept them down here, Paxton was happy.

The bull boy came to a skidding and akward stop at the sight of the man on the stairs, both ears pinning back. He had a gun- no fair. If -he- had a gun it would be an old western shoot-out. He'd win, no doubt. Unfortunately the last time the man had pointed a gun to them was still fresh in his mind, Cody wasn't overly fond of being knocked out for a whole day.
Grumbling, he clopped his way back down the stairs. Not that he was against going downstairs in the first place- elevator wouldn't work no matter what floor it was on if it was busted, but it was the principal of the thing. "Damn tootin' Keanu, that guy's got it in fer us or somethin'."

As Keanu appeared once again from the stairwell, Caden considered ducking behind Mary, but quickly ruled out that particular option. It was undignified! And furthermore, he was not scared. So what if the other cat was bigger, and older, and probably stronger than him..and had a dragon with him..Cadentau was not scared! He mentally repeated it a few times, until he was sure he was convinced and determined not to budge from his perch curled up against her on the couch, no matter how close..or intimidating.. Keanu might be. Fear somewhat conquered, the lionboy flashed a smug look at Cody as his ears perked up again. Ooh! And 'Ella' was back! He lifted his head interestedly and flicked the end of his tail, but still didn't bother to move. With that lazy grin still plastered on his face he called out to them, "Elevator fixed?"

In the front door came Alaqua, her mother coming along behind her. Bob was with them as well, of course. The girl and dragon were on their way to class. Niki was there dropping them off, but had decided to come in and see if she could talk with that battle teacher with the pink hair that the koala girl said tried to kill her. That had not made Niki's day.
There seemed to be quite a bit of activity in the lobby, more than usual. Ala was the only one that really noticed it, because Niki was still a bit depressed. Alaqua didn't know that her mother was depressed, but she knew that her mom hadn't been quite the same since that day they'd heard that the boss had died. That'd been some time ago, though, and the girl had put it aside.
Alaqua was almost to the elevator to press the button when she heard a little boy ask another kid if the elevator was fixed. She looked over at Caden. "The elevator's broken?" She frowned, not really looking forward to going up the stairs to her class.

Mary had just settled in to keep company with the cute little fluff of a boy, when suddenlly everyone was back, followed by a tech with a gun. Which, might have been alarming, if she didn't already regester him as one of the workers. Still, it seemed to her somethign was up. Or maybe she was just new at this...
She gave them a questioning look, but Caden had already asked, though somehow she doubted it would be.
144 was simply releived the group had taken his lie, and in his defence it wasn't all lie... Apparently it was Colt and Vid from the halloween bombing, the thought that they were here just made his skin crawl, wanting to rush up those stairs and show them what happend when they hurt his friends... However, there was a more pressing matter, like keeping these little hellions alive. "Keep acting like this and I will have it out for you." The gun remained pointed to the wall, glancing to the more people waiting in the lobby. Oh dear.
He glanced to the questions, "No, elevators still out." Then to Ala's "Stairs are out too. Just have a seat and wait..."
Before much else could happen though, there was a voice coming from the phone hooked to his belt, "They're heading down the stairwa," it announced, "Stop them." Crap monkies in hell, 144 was suddenlly spinning back to face the stairway they'd just come out, cocking his gun and preparing to start shooting when the two enevitably poped out.

Had the mood been less solemn, Colt would have laughed at Vid's stumbling slither down the stairs. Anyone else would have seen it as limping, but Colt really got to see what was going on. Call him insensitive for not caring that Vid had been shot, Colt knew the snake was a tough venomous b***h...he would pull through, with lots of whining and moaning...but pull through none the less.
"Think you could pick up the pace some--" the man practically snickered, before in his path was blocked by the barrel of a loaded gun. And...what the hell? Where had all these children come from? Not that he didn’t like children, he loved them in fact…it was just rather odd to see them all right there in front of him. However, highly amusing at the same time.
Together Colt and Vid's romp down the stairs hadn't been all that heart stopping. It was a long run down but there were no interruptions or further hitches. Guess from here on out their were going to have to improvise? Yeah, that suited Colt, suited him real nicely.
"Hello..." came an ever so faint voice. Colt didn't even give a chance for 144 to pull the trigger, filling the man's body in front of him with two shots.

Go, now, right, Vid's brain tried to work in slow motion as they slipped down the stairs, free hand grasping the railing for balance. Atleast Dcorp had made the stairs grippy, or else his slick scales would be creating a hassle right now. Course, there was plenty of hassle with that damned bullet in his tail. And even more from Colt, to which he gave a sharp glare.
But.. Alan was right there. RIGHT there. They were so close, just put a bullet through his head, he wouldn't survive that.. He should have done it last time but nooo, God forbid he think a cup of higly toxic venom would kill the cockroach man.
But they were too far now, and there were too many techs.. Just.. Arg. And-- Holy hell, what was that?! His eyes widened at the nice little hole in the back of Colt's head, stomach churning alittle. So he knew Colt survived some pretty nastey stuff, but he wasn't really expecting the man to be flouncing around like this with something like that. Just... ew.
And almost out, only to be stopped, god these techs were liek cockroaches as much as Alan was, just kept poping up no matter how many you stomped out. Luckally that was quickly taken care of, his eyes moved to the other kids, narrowing at the sight of them in distaste. The projects... Ech. The look of discust only intensified when he noticed they had dragons at their sides.

They had poped out sooner than he expected, he heard the word hello, then two bangs, their was a sudden shock of pain, eyes wideneing and giving a "gurk" sound, as a last responce, his finger gripped the trigger back, firing a shot at Colt awkwardly before he collapsed.

Keanu had taken to scratching the top of Ymir's head as he watched 144 boredly. He was stuck here until that guy left. Then the comment about actually actually being on their case. Yes, that didn'thelp with his opinion of the man either. Still, he knew better than to get himself sent back to nappy nap land. And there was a new mild distraction.
A girl his age and a dragon. He'd seen her briefly at the halloween party hadn't he? He watched as the girl headed for the elevators before pausing as the fact they weren't running was clarified. Then the mention of the stairs too. He gave the man a curious look at that one. The stairs were working fine. He frowned at the man, especially with his new behavior. He'd suddenly turned to the door to the stairs and was pointing the gun at it. If before he'd thought something was wrong, now he certainly knew it couldn't be right.
Right on time too. The door was shoved open and a familiar face was seen behind it. One of the murderers.
He'd barely heard the shots go off at 144. Wait... three? It didn't matter, he was already dashing toward the red-head with his own plans of keeping him down for good. Even Ymir hadn't had a chance to dart after him yet. Even as 144 was falling to the floor.
He had to protect everyone. That was what mattered.

Idly Paxton wandered back towards Mary and Caden. "You guys should have came..." he mumbled, still rather embarrassed that he had chased after Keanu, "they were some pretty awesome stairs."
A stretch of his wings and tug at his long sleeve shirt, Paxton turned back to glance at his friend now behind him and the girl whom had just walked in. Despite it being winter, he hadn't given up wearing shorts. To be honest, he thought they were comfy as hell, besides they were cut nice and low, easy to put on when you had a big feathery tail.
Koala, huh? Paxton was sure he had never met her, but the love bird was always more than willing to make new acquaintances...especially those of the female kind.
Marigold at his feet, Paxton began to move foreword, but was tripped by the dragon. "Would you--" the lovebird puffed up briefly upset, about to tell her to ‘behave’ when he heard the gunfire.
It wasn't 144 Paxton's eyes were focused on, though, the bloody sight of a body was almost to horrifying to pass up...Rather, it was Keanu he was focused on...who was now leaping right for the barrel of a loaded gun.
"K-Keanu....?" the whisper was ever so faint, and even as Paxton took a slight step foreword, he knew it was too late. Another step. Before long the lovebird was beginning to run towards the stairwell doors, he was still behind so many people, though...the new girl and...oh gods...Cody. “Please don’t go rushing in too…” he muttered under his breath.
If he had used his head, maybe he could have done something more intelligent than running into danger, to stop both the leopard and the bull...unfortunately, Paxton was no good in emergencies.

Cody stretched his arms up back behind his head, minding his horns as they went. He hadn't wanted to go up the stairs anyway... they'd figure something out- and it wasn't like the girl needed to bring her junk up to her office.
Then there was an all too familar sound... he heard it in the movies he frequented, dreamt of hearing that sound crack from his own finger tips in a dramatic showoff against outlaws. This time though, instead of a heart-pumping sense of adventure the sound sent a cold chill down his back. He turned slowly, his eyes widening as a man fell forward just after another shot. Blood... red blood. Not fake tv blood for blood for real. His gut tightened and his heart began pounding in his throat. It seemed like time froze for a moment, nothing moved but the blood down the stairs... he had no idea someone could bleed that much.
He turned as a flash of white and black raced away towards the men. Keanu....
The bull boy turned, his eyes widening as he let out a loud grunt. Something snapped in his brain, defence. He had to protect his friend, there was blood on the ground- HE was in danger as well. Paxton's plea went ignored and slippery floor or not, Cody was plowing right after Keanu, gripping his fists tight and lowering his head.

Pretty awesom stairs, my foot! As if there were any stairs that could be termed 'awesome', because they all required walking...except maybe escalators, which were pretty cool, because you just stood on them and they carried you right up, like those moving walkways at the airport. One minute he was contemplating the fate of escalators and those moving walkway things they had at the airport, and the next minute the air was filled with the scent of something metallic. Caden’s fur bristled as he realized just what it was. ..blood
His eyes narrowed and a second later, he burst into motion. The lionboy might have been young, but he was still a lion, and therefore, he was still big, heavy, and most importantly, strong. He sprang from the couch and lunged at Paxton with claws unsheathed, tripping the lovebird with a heavy swipe of his forearm and dragging him back by the ankle. “Stay with her.” he growled, then rounded up Alaqua and her mother, pushing them all into a huddle near Mary. Cadentau stood defiantly in front of them purposefully trying to shield ‘his pride’ he shook his head instinctively, making his hair fluff out even more and bared his teeth at the intruders before turning back to his task. Keeping himself between them and the gunmen, he forced the group back and away from the fighting.
The door! If only he could get them to the door! He glanced quickly from the gunmen to the exit. Cody and Keanu were already distracting them, but they would need more time! The lion gestured at the door and hissed at Paxton “Get them out.” Then, with what was unmistakably a roar, although rather high pitched, he too, bounded across the room, skidded on the slippery floor, and made a sharp pivot, charing into the battle from the side.

Alaqua frowned at 144. How could the stairs be broken too? Stairs couldn't break. The girl was about to say something back to the labtech when something started to happen. Like... 144 was killed.
The girl just stared at the blood oozing out of the body of 144, then she shrieked, grabbing Bob's neck and clinging tightly to the brass wyrmling. Niki jumped, startled by her daughter's shriek. The woman rushed over to where the koala girl was crouched on the floor.
There was a sudden flurry of activity, with most of the kids rushing right towards the killers. Niki didn't react in time to keep them from all running right for the two men with guns. This was not good...
Then, suddenly, the little lion boy was pushing them over to some other woman and standing in front of them. Niki couldn't help it... he was just too darn cute!

Mary's eyes widened as suddenlly everything seemed to happen so fast, killers, the ones that Killed alan, the though alone made her blood run cold-That... and the fact 144 had just gone down. A scream wanted to reach her lips, but instead all noises froze as her stomach clenched.
When Caden moved forward, she reached, but he came back thank God. Once he was in arms reach, she fell behind him and wrapped her arms around the little Lion, mainly around the vital organs incase these horrible people decided they should take any children out. She held tight, refusing to let go, suprisingly strong for her geekish looks, but books could do wonders for someone.
