The day was bright and warm, and to one small, adventurous cub it was about the same as ever other day that she'd experienced. Janja had only gone so far in her exploring before, and was on the look out for new things that were more obviously new. As curious as she was, she was still a cub and had no eye or attention for great detail. It was risky to do so without the permission of her parents, but she'd gone off a lot farther than usual. She was nearing the edge of the jungle that came out to the desert.
"It's so dry," she murmured to herself, walking through the thinning surrounding of trees, still not having seen the desert itself in the distance. She took a moment to stop and examine some strange looking plants curiously, mentally trying to compare it to those found deep in the jungle.

 Where was he now? Green eyes looked around. He followed a shiny bug again. Why did they always have to be so shiny? It made Hayate think of why he had to be so small, the never ending quest to get that question answered. To get big one day. Yes, would be nice. He had already wandered out on his own a few times, that would prove he was big and brave wouldn't it? But he was still scrawny.
Things here were so different, he hadn't strayed too far away from his family, where they were. He was marveling at all the differetn plants here, the trees! Hmm, AThena his sister liked to climb trees. Perhaps he could try?
Hayate padded up to one and tilted his head at it. Wriggling his tail he jumped up and tried to grasp onto the side of it. But alas he fell backwards upon his back and rolled over. He stood up and huffed and glared at the tree.
Stupid thing.
This wasn't very fun when he was by himself.

Janja's ears flickered back at the sound of something else nearby in the foliage. It'd only been noticable when it sounded almost like someone tripped over something, or fell. She ceased her examination of the strange plant and looked around for some sign of who or what had fallen, no sign of look anxious, only curious.
"Hm," she hummed to herself, and tiptoed in the direction she thought it might be.

Hayate glared at the tree some more, swatted at it with his paw. It hurt. He growled and curled up and licked his paw to make it feel better, then stood up and looked at the tree again. "Why is it so hard for me? How come Athena can climb things like you and I can't? I don't want to be small anymore! I want to be able to do what my other siblings can..."
His voice sounded as if he was going to cry. Tears welling up in the corners of his green eyes. He sniffled and jumped at the tree again, scratched at it's sides as he slowly began to slip down the trunk, he tried clining as if his life depended on it. But it was no use, and he slid to the ground again.
"It's not fair..."

Janja just caught sight of something dark and spotty seemingly flying up the tree, since the whole body of the cub was not in her view- merely a paw or two. She stopped to stare for a moment, tilting her head and finally wincing as the paws ended up back on the ground.
"Hey!" she called, leaping forward and going around the tree to see who fell, "Are you ok?"
The lion cub started when she saw who it was. It was another leopard! He looked more like Narcissus than the strange brown and white one did, too. There seemed to be a lot of leopards here, she was starting to wonder if her family were the only lions around.

Green eyes turned to face an unfamiliar figure. His crouched down a bit, steadied himself, though he had to restrain himself from having his legs shake. He was nervous, and this thing didn't look like a familiar thing he had seen. Well, did look like a small version of his mom.
"Hi...." he said softly, shyly, he looked to the tree then back at her, "Yes, just...couldn't climb it..." his ears fell back showing he was disappointed in himself. Why did he have to be so small?
"I'm Hayate, who're you?" he asked curiously.

(( Sorry about the delay, but now exams are over biggrin ))
Janja offered the 'leopard' a friendly smile, hoping to put him at ease- he didn't look so steady, but perhaps that was because he just fell out of a tree! The little lioness had never considered doing such a thing herself, what a funny idea!
"Oh," she murmured when he assured he was ok, and looked up at the tree. It might be interesting to try, but it didn't seem too safe to try. If he couldn't, why should she manage? She laughed quietly, and looked back at the stranger with a smile.
"I'm Janja," she introduced herself cheerfully, "The tree looks awful big, but you were doing really good. Maybe you just need some practice."

Hayate sat up now, feeling more at ease around her. She was so nice, how could he not feel alright? "Janga, a nice name, its pretty," he said with a smile. Flicking his tail behind him. He wondered if she ever tried to climb a tree, but could a lioness? He wondered that a bit, then peered to the tree again.
"Maybe, I don't know if I can...I'm the smallest out of my family...its hard..." he said softly, a bit embarrassed by it all. Then he looked back to Janga with a smile upon his maw, "So what're you doing out here? Having fun?"

"Thank you, Hayate," Janja beamed happily at her new friend, always enjoying compliments, "You have a very nice name. It's not like any I've really heard before, I like it." She spoke genuinely without realizing it at first, she was always interested in the new and exciting, or unique. Her attention shifted back to the tree with the conversation, and she wrinkled her nose.
"It doesn't matter if you're smaller, you'll get bigger," she said thoughtfully. Daddy sometimes commented on how big her and her sisters were getting, and it made sense for things to grow. "I'm smaller than one of my sisters, and maybe a little bigger than the other one, but that doesn't mean I can't do things they can. And I came here to explore! It's not as green and wet as where my family stays."

Hayate smiled and listened to her speak. SO nice she was! He was glad he came across her today and not some big and grumpy other thing, would be strange if Hayate met anything grumpy, he wouldn't know how to act. "I hope I'll get bigger, I'm the smallest out of everyone, makes me feel really small sometimes, but hoping to get bigger is nice."
He flicked his tail, green and wet? That must be an interesting place to live in. "Exploring is fun, thats why I wandered here too, have you found anything interesting we could go see Janja?"

"A headstart doesn't mean you'll win the race," Janja laughed, suggesting that being the smallest doesn't mean he'd never catch up, and grow just as big or bigger than his siblings. "And being small isn't so bad, it's easier to sneak away without being noticed! But my parents aren't really strict about it.. still I don't think they'd like me being this far away."
When questioned, she took a good look around and grinned, "I think it's all really interesting, but nothing really, really different! We can keep looking though, if you want! I like exploring with others, you get more ideas of where to go."

Hayate smiled and play plounced forward and flicked his tail, "Thats true, I'm sneaky," he said with a grin and then he laughed. Janja was so nice, why hadn't he met her before? "Where could we go? This'll be fun!" he crouched down and walked around in an awkward manner, trying to stay low as if stalking something, "Maybe we can find some weird things..."

Janja flinched when Hayate suddenly leapt forward, and then started to laugh. It was definetely more fun doing things with others, and it was a nice change from doing everything with her sisters. The little lioness turned around and bounced a couple steps forward, "I don't know, things change more the farther this way y'go I think. We could try that."

"Alright, then lets go that way, maybe we can find something pretty," he said aloud. It was normal for him to want to find something nice. Hayate always wanted to bring his mother back something nice now and again. Perhaps even when he saw Mana again he could give her something pretty. Hayate took a few steps, but made sure to keep close to Janja, he had a feeling she would lead them around better then if he tried to.

"There are lots of pretty things around, I'm sure we'll find something!" Janja burst optimistically, there was no reason for beauty to fade with the water! She followed Hayate's steps at first, and noticed that he slowed down, giving her the lead. With a wink at him as she passed, and picked up the pace until she found something interesting to stop and take a look at.
"What kind of things do you think are pretty?" she asked, glancing back at her new friend, "Then I'll no what to watch out for."
