It might be fun to go through the Top 100 Romance Novels of 2004 which is listed on the AAR website. It has a variety of genres and should be easy to locate.

For an idea of what they've got .. here's #95-#100:

95. How to Marry a Marquis Julia Quinn Eur Hist Romance
96. Angel Rogue Mary Jo Putney Eur Hist Romance
97. Trust Me Jayne Ann Krentz Contemp Romance
98. Dancing on the Wind Mary Jo Putney Eur Hist Romance
99. Once and Always Judith McNaught Eur Hist Romance
100. This Heart of Mine Susan Elizabeth Phillips Contemp Romance

UPDATE:

The current book we are reading is a contemporary romance. Book #95, #96, #98, and #99 are European Historical -- is that something everyone is interested in or should we stick to contemporary?

OK - this suggestion has gone over like a ton of bricks. smile

I'm going to try and advertise this guild a bit more and see if we can get some nibbles.

I think this is a good idea. I'll try it with you and see how it works out just to get a feel for it. I have one of the crappiest libraries in existance so I'll see how many of these I can actually find there.

I'm going to bump this back up ..

Is anyone interested or am I going to be reading alone? smile

This sounds like a neat idea, I'd love to join in when it gets started.

I, too, will try to advertise it ^_^

I love your sig! VERY cute.

I guess if we pick a book and set a start date we can go from there ... if we actually put it into action we may be more likely to get results.

My vote is to start at #100 and go from there:

This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I like the idea! It will definitely bee a good break from some of my other reading (though I can't promise that I'll be on track with everyone else with the semester kicking off...)

And the books on the book list seem really interesting!

I'll look for that book next time I'm at the library (which will be Monday since I just finished my weekend books).

I've already read and own How to Marry a Marquis by Julia Quinn. I loved it. I actually think when you get to this book, I might dig it out of storage and read it again. XD

OK, tomorrow is a new month ...

Do you guys want to do this again?

I am going to suggest something completely different for a book.

Staying Dead - Laura Anne Gilman

It's the first in the Retriever novels.

Manhattan's night life just got weirder . . .

It starts as a simple job -- but simple jobs, when you're dealing with the magical world, often end up anything but.

As a Retriever, Wren Valere specializes in finding things gone missing -- and then bringing them back, no questions asked. Normally her job is stimulating, challenging and only a little bit dangerous. But every once in a while . . .

Case in point: A cornerstone containing a spell is stolen and there's a magical complication. (Isn't there always?) Wren's unique abilities aren't enough to lay this particular case to rest, so she turns to some friends: a demon (minor), a mage who has lost his mind, and a few others, including Sergei, her business partner (and maybe a bit more?).

Sometimes what a woman has to do to get the job done is enough to give even Wren nightmares . . .

It is classified more as paranormal/sci-fi/thriller than romance but being the first in the series there is potential for more (see the blurb above about Sergei).

It came out last year so it's a fairly new book but there are already two released in this series.

Anybody up for this or do you want to stick to a more traditional romance?

Let me know.

it does seem interesting... but I'd also be interested in sticking with the top 100...
but of course it is up to you 3nodding
and though I prefer what we're currently doing, I wouldn't mind your suggestion.

edit: I also have to make sure that my library has whatever it is we read rofl

I only suggested it as another option. It's also something I own and haven't read yet. wink

I'm good for whatever is decided.

Pick a number any number and we'll read that book from the Top 100. smile

the first that for some reason caught my attention was:
20. Mr. Perfect Linda Howard Contemp Romance

There's one copy at my library that's not missing rofl (somehow they managed to loose about 4 copies Oo)
and looking that a Canadian bookstore website
I think it looks pretty interesting...
Out of the 5 people that wrote reviews on the book, all of them gave it 5 stars
(or er... maple leafs ^^; )

What would make the perfect man?

That''s the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours hot spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted -- or will just muscular do? As their conversation hears up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnight sensation, spreading like wildfire at work and sizzling along e-mail lines. But what began as a joke among friends turns deadly serious when one of the four women is murdered....Turning to her neighbor, an unpredictable police detective, for help, Jaine must unmask a killer to save her friends -- and herself. Now, knowing whom to trust and whom to love is a matter of survival -- as the dream of Mr. Perfect becomes a chilling nightmare.

I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea or not, but I'd be interested in reading it 3nodding

also, because I started it a week late... I still need a few more days to finish This Heart of Mine ^^;
just one or two though sweatdrop
I have 65 more pages ><
