As for timelines, why not do it every week?
Week 1- wish list goes up, SS assigned
Week 2- gifts bought, sent to exchanger, if we're doing that.
Week 3 - gifts sent to reciever (maybe christmas eve?)

Woot! I'm definitely down for Santa-ing.
I think you're doing a fine job of organising things thus far, hila, and would be perfectly happy if you'd like to continue as the Santa manager. If you don't have the time, though, or you're feeling too overwhelmed I certainly wouldn't mind stepping in and helping out in any way you need support.
I think up to 5k sounds like a pretty reasonable price range for gifts, which seems to be a popular option. I could easily do up to 10k too, but that might be harder for some members so the 5k estimate sounds good to me.
I like Kin's idea as far as a time frame, but I think it might be better to have the exchange done a little sooner than Christmas Eve, since there's a decent chance some members will be traveling or spending that time with their families. Perhaps we could do it the Friday before? Or Saturday?
