I'm not sure how much on the topic of knowledge this is, and I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I was wondering about the topic of religion and gaming.
Many christians that I know are against video games because they say it involves magic and evil and antichrist stuff. I am a Christian myself and I like almost all kinds of video games, for I believe that it is all jsut for fun and as long as we know it's not real, it doesn't really matter.
So my question to you is this: Are you religious, if so, where do you stand on the topic of video games expecially ones with magic?

I see how a video game could be viewed as evil because it involves magic, but they need to realize that it's not real and it's just means of entertainment, not actual magic or any antichrist-type thing. Every christian I know (except for one family which is just plain strange and too far into their religious beliefs to the point where it is no longer healthy) loves and plays video games.
I swear, people are getting too tight-assed about anything lately. So frustrating. emo

I'm a Christian, and frankly.. I think that the whole anti-gaming thing from a lot of christians is pretty.. well, stupid. For one, most judge the book by the cover, so to speak. The Bible tells us only God can Judge, and we should not be judgmental of anything (especially people) Second, just because you're playing a video game (in other words, not real) about magic or demons, does not mean you are worshipping it in any way. I think that if you begin to play it too much, so much that it disrupts your 'time' with God, then it's bad.. then you're worshipping it.. you're shipping worth to it, more worth to the game than to your religion.
But that's rarely the case.

Haha. Raised christian, and I couldn't give a damn about any "Magic Voodoo". Final Fantasy kicks a**. Besides, I think it's against their religion to come up with rules against things in the religion. As far as I remember, there were twelve rules, and everything else is just a bunch of bullshit some tight-wads in robes came up with so they could legally rule the world. Off topic, video games have nothing to do with religion really. Grand Theft Auto isn't my favorite game, but hell, it's good. Give or take obsessive swearing. Besides, there's actually "Religious Videogames" out there. Sounds like a little goodside/dark side of the force thing, doesn't it?

I'm religious (I want to be a youth minister some day) and I love video games, RPG especially.

I am atheist, but I could see from the other side... Christian extremists like banning all sorts of things. It's not real, = who cares? That's the view of a lot of religious people... I mostly play Mega Man games, where it focuses on technology, though.. I like Fire Emblem and Pokemon too. And I don't like those idiots complaining about how "pagan" Pokemon is. It's just a game based off insect fights. Geez.

Not that I'm taking their side on this, but it's not the games themselves that offend religious leaders. What offends a lot of them is (say we're discussing rpg's) the idea of pretending you are someone else, discontent towards oneself. Some leaders see contests (or games that place one person against another) as a sin because the whole point of a contest is to prove oneself better then the next person, and they are offended by this because they believe that the only truely dominate being is whatever god(s) they worship. Personally, I don't really care what they think.

I personally am not religious and have never read the bible (thought I plan to (know thy enemy (not that religious people are my enemies it's just a quote))) but I never heard in the bible that video games were sins you couldn't come back from. After all, you are never going to be able to live your whole life without committing a sin (thats what confession is for) and most likely not even without committing a deadly one (pride is one of those right? So you can't be happy you succeeded in not breaking and rules?... oh wait... you just did.) so why not play games, not all of them have to do with magic (doesn't making a blind man see ect. count as magic?).
P.S. sorry for all the parentheses, I don't usually type like this.
