Ok so many people here in America (that I know at least) think that Lolita dresses are bad...and all sluty. ok so wtf? Some of my friends think that its cute, but then others think that its really sluty. I dont think that its the same way in Japan is it? People get me so mad when they say its really sluty......because the kind of Lolita clothes that I like are really cute and are NOT bad.. I am sure that many of you agree right? Americans always have to make something good, bad. They even gave geishas a bad name!! Im an american by the way.

I think Gwen Stefani created the "provocative Lolita" idea over here. It also may connect back to the "naughty maid" or "naughty schoolgirl" look that says in people's heads: "Stripper."
Because of this, Lolita entered the mainstream as something rather unsavoury... this adulterated, sometimes ***** aesthetic that it never should have been.
However, I am quite certain that those who approach the true Lolita aesthetic from the Japanese side, (Music, anime, etc.), are not as likely to see it from the Americanized point of view. We have a number of serious Lolitas in the US, mark my words. And I am sure that we all have experienced some amount of irritability at finding a Hot Topic Lolita dress with bad lace, weak seams, and a skirt that is a third of the acceptable length, but this is also reason to keep to our style and show others what Lolita really and truly is meant to be, despite any bitter remarks we may receive.
Stay strong. heart

I had a hard time believing that people actually call Lolita slutty until I was researching it in my computer class and a friend of mine did just that. I think my mouth was on the floor! slutty? Lolita is the complete opposite! It's cute to the point of being almost completely non-sexual to the average person! Most outfits (I'm talking sweet and classic lolita terms here, always will XD) consist of the skin being completely covered in one way or another.
I agree with Drywater- we've got to stick to the true Lolita style and not settle. Never settle, ladies!

*snorts* Oh, psh, yeah....Knee-length skirts, almost no instances of shoulders or cleavage showing, knee-length socks.....total whores. (Sarcasm) 'Cause you know, those people out there wearing washcloths for skirts, under wear up their asses, and shirts that show more cleavage than fabric are TOTALLY not sluts.
It makes me laugh when people call Lolita a slutty fashion...especially as some fourteen-year-old hussy struts by in a mini skirt and tubetop when she's got no buisness being in either. My mom thinks it's funny too, just by looking at the clothes she can tell it's much more conservative than many other fashions she's seen today. Except maybe Islamic women who cover themselves head to foot. razz
That actually happened to me on the last day of school. The retarded security guard comes up to me and goes "I'm not sure about your outfit...." Me: ........*lolita*........what does that mean? Her: Well, it looks like something that a girl your age shouldn't be wearing. Me:....................................so what should I be wearing...? A tank and shortshorts like that girl over there? (both are against our dress code)
So she drags me into the office, me griping hte whole way, pointing out people in dresscode, her ignoring me. I get in and she goes; "She looks to me like she's trying to be in some porn." My jaw drops to the ground and I'm trying my hardest not to start beating her over the head with my frilly parasol. Instead I calmly ask: "And why do I look like some slut when I'm in a kneelength skirt and carrying a teddy bear bag around with me?" She goes on to explain the whole phedophile thing, I'm imagining a painful, emo-riffic death for her, and my counselor comes in.... "What's she doing in here?" "I'm not sure about her outfit...." "Come here, hun lemme see...AWWW look how cute that is! Twirl around baby!" I twirl. "Look how cute! Go on back to class, hun." As I leave I bid her a cheery and polite goodbye. ^-^ That security guard now glares at me every single day. >3

When we look at things, do we analyze everything the moment we see it, or do we just take in the whole effect? Most american "slutty" things are decked out in lace and frills, from lingerie to "goths."
Lolita is similarly decked out in lace and frills, and I think that's the first thing that people see when they look at lolita. Also, if you're not like us, who pore over countless loli pictures and can pick out the differences between loli and american clothing, you miss the things that make loli NOT slutty: the longer sleeves, the higher collars, the longer skirts.
Just trying to show it from the other side. 3nodding

No R? *thinks* ._. Can't guess it.
xD Yeah. You basically have Gwen there [don't remember exactly what she wore], but something close to poom-poom [booty] shorts or something, with these inhumane shoes and a Japanese chick dressed up like a bunny [but looks like a human-swan with something that looked like strawberry shortcake on her head for ears.]!!!! xDDDD I mean, it's artistic, but it isn't Lolita-wear.

Nezumi Kakashi That security guard now glares at me every single day. >3 your story made my day. xD
anyway, I completely agree with Drywater.
sure, I've gotten some remarks about my lolita dresses, and had older (much, much older) men staring at me really strangely, to the point I felt I needed to hide from being uncomfortable.
and being insulted, or getting comments on it looking the opposite of what it really is, is really hard sometimes, especially if you're as shy as I am.
(I had a really, really nervewrecking experience being ditched and alone, while being pointed at, sneered at, and made fun of [as well as recieving cat calls -_-] during the Family Values Tour. I started crying at one point, and had to have one of people there promoting Dir en grey help me find my brother and his friend who had ditched me.)
you just have to learn to not let it get to you. even if it's hard, and frustrating. be proud in knowing that you're smart, and that you know what it is. everyone else who makes insulting remarks is unaccepting and prejudice. they're lesser for not learning to accept, and for label things. LABELS ARE FOR CANS. lol, or however it goes. D:

I shall share a msall story that happened to me just a little while ago in math calss. ( I'm in history right now. =/ 8th grade sucks.) I was sitting, tryign to do my work when some kid starte talking about my friend, who is home schooled now, and I looked over. They both stopped and looked at me. Me: " What were saying about her?" I asked, raising a brow in a curious manner. ( I always do that. xD ) B.M: "..Nothing." I saw her whisper to the other that I creep her out. I was dressed ( In there eye's it's called 'Goth/Poser' ) In darker clothing with a red head band and striped arm warmers and converse. ( Oh noes. I'll continues this later. I have to log off now! Byes. <3 )

yeah like you guys were saying, like the sleeves of some dresses are really really long!! and so are the colars. i dont get how people can call it slutty. im l;ucky though that my mom thinks its cute and she would let me wear lolita clothes. she was about to buy me a lolita dress once too!!! but it was to expensive. But a lot of perverts always have to take something and turn it bad. like strippers used kimonos.and they have like turned them super short and you can see the cleavage. and they do the same with loli dresses now. it gets me so mad. everyone in the mall or whatever who call loli dresses slutty....well they all look the same wearing jeans and hollister shirts. wtf?
