See, the first time I saw the show at 2, I missed him at the stage door. I didn't go for that. I got tickets to the 8 o'clock. I met him then. I asked him to sign my little book and then I was like, "IhadtobuymoreticketsbecauseImissedyouafterthefirstperformance." And he was like, "... Oh my god. Awww! That's so nice! I'm so sorry!" And then I explained to him about how my friend said she was going to call me so we could stagedoor together and she never did. Sooo. And then we hugged. I got a picture.
Declan Bennett (Roger) - Didn't like him a lot the first show. I thought he was probably the weakest performance, but after the second show, not so much. He didn't seem to try to hide his accent as much. I don't know. Maybe I just had to get used to it, but I really did like his voice. His Goodbye Love was crazy good. He had this thing going on where he had eyeliner and extremely blue eyes, which made him look slightly frightening, especially with the hacky almost-mohawk. He was reeeeeally nice, though. I met him both times after the shows, and the first time I got something signed, and the second time we had a short exchange.
Me: Can I have a hug?
Him: Sure! (insert hug) Okay, that'll cost you ten bucks.
Me: (I reached for my pocket, jokingly, of course.) You whore!
Him: Yeeeah. (And something to the effect of "I sell my body!")
Me: I'm sure a lot of the kids here would buy you.
Him: Hah, yeah... (he started to say something, and then!)
Some girl: (She tells the Angel that I haven't gotten his signature, so I totally blow off Declan by accident. I felt bad.)
Also, his mom was there, so that was awkward when I called him a whore. I got a picture with him, too.
Warren G. Nolan, Jr. (Collins) - I liked him a lot. In his Reprise, I liked the way he started it off. He was more, mumbling the first lines and sobbing, which is a lot more realistic. He was either really, really upset about Angel's death or a reeeeally good actor. Probably the latter. He had this thing about him though where he was all nice and sweet and shy (his Collins, that is) which made him a lot different from Jesse's Collins.
The girls before me when we were getting things signed were like, "How do you say your name?" and he was like, "Um... Warren." He was so confused. How can you not pronounce Warren? I'm pretty sure they had him confused with a different person. Anyways, I didn't really get to talk to him.
Krystal Brown (Mimi) - I liked her! A lot! I don't like Mimis ever, other than Daphne. Her Out Tonight was a little too fast, but she had a really smooth voice. Her Without You as also really, really good. She was the perfect blend of like, "I'm a whore" and "I'm a whore you will feel bad for!" She was really nice at the stagedoor, too. She waited for everyone.
Melvin Bell, III (Angel) - People told me he wasn't into the role. He was SO into the role. His Contact sounded so much like Wilson's. He was very... animated. He was everywhere at once and making all kinds of great faces and gestures. No problem in the heels, either. The only thing I noticed that wasn't good was that he ran out of breath by the "gracie mews" line in Today 4 U.
Tracy McDowell (Maureen) - I liked her a lot, too. She was way more into it then Idina ever got, especially when Idina was at RENT10. She had that whole perky bit about her. Her Over the Moon was really good and she really made it enjoyable and comical. I don't even like Over the Moon that much, but I liked hers. Her Take Me Or Leave Me was also really good. She has a really strong voice. I also loved the way she did the line "and Mr. Grey!"
Chante Carmel Frierson (Joanne) - She was also very good. Her voice is really strong and she can really hold her notes. Her We're Okay was perfect. She really worked the anger into that and Take Me or Leave Me. I thought it was really funny, when she was on the table during Without You, she was sticking her tongue out at the band. razz
Michael Ifill (Benny) - He was actually probably the weakest in the performance. He didn't really look the part, I guess. He was really good at getting angry, though. When Roger yells at Mimi in Goodbye Love, you could like, see the veins in Ifill's head popping.
Douglas Lyons (Benny) - I think it was him that played Benny in the performance on Sunday. He sounded a lot like Taye. He even looked and dressed like him! It was so weird. I liked him a lot, though. I'm surprised he wasn't cast as Benny, but I guess I don't really know how that works. I think I got a picture with him, though.
Also, I met the soloist. (I think?) He came up and was like, "YOU! First row yesterday! That was you, right?" and I was all, wtf who is this, and then I was like, "Oh. Yeah." And he was all, "...you want an autograph or anything?" So I got out my paper and he signed it and we got a picture with him and the Benny. It was really funny. He said he saw me getting things signed the night before and went to find me and I had left. I liked him. If I didn't, things would have been creepy.
The whole cast was really good. Obviously, I thought so. I saw them three times. They were all really good actors as well as singers. There was a lot of acting on their part. I mean, of course, but GOOD acting. Everyone go see them, okay?
Also, yes, yes, yes, I saw the cast Saturday during the day, missed Harley, and went back for the eight o'clock show. Then, when I got home, Sandra wanted to see it, so I was like, "TAKE ME!" And I went today. smile I'm a dork, okayokayokay. It was all a really good experience, though. The actors were all very nice and it was my first real stagedooring experience and everything. The thing is, they had nothing at the theatre, so I didn't eat until about eight thirty today and all I had yesterday was an over-sized oatmeal cookie. It was totally worth it, though.

The stage.

From the left: Me, Aswad (the soloist), Douglas Lyons (the understudy Benny) and my friend. I look very confused because at first I didn't recognize the soloist...

Me and Harley Jay who plays Mark. Isn't he adorable?

Me, Declan and my friend. Declan's very... attractive... to say the least. smile
