I decided to combine the discussions on what we are currently reading and what we just finished into a single thread. So hopefully we'll have slightly more in-depth discussion going on. If you wish to rant about something, but don't feel like devoting a whole thread to it then this is also a place for you to vent your frustration or excitement.

If there are any major spoilers that you wish to talk about, remember that others might not want to be exposed to them so white text would probably be much appreciated in those cases. ^_^

Some possible topics of conversation are:
Has this book succeded in capturing your attentions to the point where it is painful to put it down?
Do you like the prose/writing style that the author has chosen to portray his/her story?
Does this particular work make you want to read other books by the same author?

Well at the recommendation of a friend, I laid down the fantasy and classic novels I normally read, to pick up Dean Koontz....I read Winter Moon but wasn't very impressed. But if there's anything I've learned, it's to not judge an author over a single book. So I picked up From the Corner of His Eye and I have to say, I'm hooked. It's inexplicable as to why, because the story is equally baffling so far, but it's definitely an interesting read and worth your time.

For free time that I don't want to do Homework, I'm re-reading The Wayfarer Redemption by Sara Douglass, but for school I'm reading The Joy Luck club by Amy Tan

As ashamed as I am to say it, the entire Slut Girl series redface
They're actually well written, but extremely racy.

Oh Lord, I just got done reading the Color Purple.

It's not really that it was painful to put down. I wanted to, from the very first page. But I couldn't.

The first half messed me up bad, almost worse that Misery did. Once I got past that, though, it was a little more bearable as far as issues in it go.

My current read is the first installment of Maya Angelou's autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. This is something that I've been hearing about for some time now. Apparently it is one of those titles that is banned from certain school libraries for the description of the rape she endured when she was eight years old. I didn't find it to be so offensive, but merely a testament to what can happen to children. I'm in the middle of the book at the moment.

I've been wondering where these threads disappeared to for awhile...

Recently finished reading: The Inner Sanctum, by Stephen Frey
Currently reading: To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and The Riddle of Epsilon, by Christine Morton-Shaw

The Inner Sanctum is a book that I've read about three times now (which is good, seeing as I don't like rereading books until I've forgotten most of the plot), and I know I'll be able to read it again and again. It's really just one of my favorite books ever, though I can't say I've discovered any other of Frey's books that I really want to read yet (seeing as I really liked the characters in this book, and Frey hasn't made another book with them, as far as I understand...).
I actually snapped (lightly) at my mom when she told me we had to leave a place we were in, since I was at the best part of the book... sweatdrop

To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that I'm reading for my English class, but, unlike most of the other books I've had to read for school, I really like this one. Though, I don't know if I'm going to look for Lee's other books any time soon.

The Riddle of Epsilon...well, I haven't really read much of it yet. But, it was quite fun decoding something in the book, even if it was explained on the very next page. I think I can expect good things from this book.

I'm almost done The Devil Wears Prada. It's a good book, a nice break from the harder, deeper stuff. ^^

Recently finished: The Riddle of Epsilon, by Christine Morton-Shaw
Currently reading: Pet Store, by M.T. Coffin

Well, I finished The Riddle of Epsilon during school today. whee It was such an awesome book! There were a bunch of codes in the book, and I figured out how to decode them while the main character did as well, and I even tested myself by decoding messages before turning the page and finding out what the answer was! (The storyline itself was also very good.) It was awesome, and I am definitely going to see if the author of this book wrote anything else.

As for Pet Store, well, I've read it before, and it's technically a book for younger readers. Even still, though, I did pick it up again, just for the sake of things. Not sure yet what I'll read when I've finished it.

*after checking around for a few minutes* Aww, it says that The Riddle of Epsilon is the author's only book aside from a bunch of children's books...

EDIT (12/13/06):
Recently finished: Pet Store, by M.T. Coffin
Currently reading: Peter and the Shadow Thieves, by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

Nothing more to say about Pet Store.

Finally got around to starting up Peter and the Shadow Thieves! It's the sequel to Peter and the Starcatchers, and it's getting more and more like Peter Pan every page. But that's all right, since I think it's supposed to be an alternate version of it anyway, or something. Whatever it is, I really like this book so far, though I don't know yet if I like this one or the first one more. I'll have more to say on this as I get farther into the book.

I am reading multiple books at the moment. Sometimes I think that can be a good thing. Actually I'll probably end up reading more than just the titles here because I have one or two books that I read a chapter or two every now and then.

Valley of the Kings by John Romer ~ As if I needed something else to feed this Ancient Egypt obsession, right?

Unleashed by C.J. Barry ~ Paperback romance with a science-fiction setting... I'm so used to historical romances that I don't know what to make of it quite yet.

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling ~ I've had the sequel for years, but I really wanted to read the original first because trying to read part 2 made it feel somewhat incomplete.

Right now I am halfway through New Moon, but so far it's been kind of boring... Edward leaving totally messed me up. I've now been sad about it for a really long time. I'm also starting The Lost World, the sequel to Jurrasic Park. I'm not even past the first chapter, so I can't really say how it is. Although, Jurrasic Park was a really good book, it was hard to put down.

Peter and the Starcatchers and the like are suposed to be prequels to Peter Pan.
Anyway...I just finished reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens for reading class. It's a good book, but after seeing two virsions of the movie two days before, it gets kind of old. I'm planning on reading The Wish List by Eoin Colfer next. I've wanted to read it for awhile now but I never got around to picking it up.
