Gnaw. Gnaw gnaw gnaw. Just imagine its a lion, or a wing. Both work, actually.

There was a snort from the male, slumped under the spines of an elephant long gone, one of its large bones in his maw, held in place by his front paws, being slowly but surely bit into small pieces. Afterall, hyenas were known to break bones.

There wasn't much to do if you weren't hungry, and there was no sign of lions around, so this was what he did when Mabozi was randomly around the graveyard, doing who-knows what.

Though from first sight the hyena seems careless, his brows are together in frustration, tail flicking annoyedly, and lips raised a bit more than they would just by gnawing the bones. Recently, new hyenas had joined the pack, some Ahsante and some Shira, or whatever her name was. But in this 'meeting', something had been particularly troubling.

Wings. And lions.

He's seen those before, on one odd blue lion, that flew away. He thought that was it, but apperently Yakuti had seen one too. And not the same one, either. This meant there were more.

Tibuka didn't have a large fear for lions, he had actually defeated quite a few, but this was different. 'Gods'. Those could probably do more than just fly.

This just wouldn't do.

The dull thumps of quickened trotting echoed out through the barren graveyard as the alpha female of the pack returned from her hunt. She hadn't been in much of a mood to tackle anything that would pose a challange, so she was returning to her den with a limp hare hanging from her jaws. The dead animal swung to and fro and Mafa swiftly made her way back to her den, eager to tuck into her meal.

But along her way back, she noticed a familiar hyena laying about, gnawing on a bone. It was Tibuka, one of her favorites, a higher ranking hyena in the pack. What a coincidence, she had just seen him not too long ago, at a small meeting accepting a few new members into the pack. Usually, she'd go for weeks without seeing head nor tail of the brute, but perhaps this was a week for encounters. She had taken up patrols again lately, for some reason, Mafa was growing listless. As she neared him, Mafa raised her head, making herself look quite important, the dead hare swaying back and forth, it's fur growing damp with saliva as she spoke around it,

"Tibu'a, fancy seein' 'ou 'ere"

The bone being chipped was closer than Mafa, so the male hadn't actually noticed her untill Mafa had actually said something. Out of a reflex, his head shot up, and paws twiched, as if itching to get up, a quick growl began then ceased emmediatly.

It was Mafa. No trouble here, then. He dipped his head, half apologeticaly. "'Ello Mafa. " The male said dully. He looked at his alpha, she'd obviously been hunting. But still, he could quite take his mind off the news of the winged lions.

He sat up, looking at his chipped bone half heartedly, then back at Mafa. "'ey, Mafa, y'rember that thing Yakuti said? Bout this 'god' 'n stuff? " He asked, but didn't quite wait for an answer. "We saw one, 'n he saw another one, there' prolly more. "

Mafa nodded, confirming Tibuka's greeting, and then padded closer to the male. She dropped her drool soaked hare to the ground, not even bothering to keep an eye on it, she could trust Tibuka to not run off with her catch. The matter of this situation was quite pressing, and Mafa narrowed her eyes just thinking about it.

"Yes, I remember. It's a sickening situation, these lions with wings and who knows what else parading around."

She spat on the dry ground in disgust for the beasts. Where these gods came from, she didn't know. Why they were tromping around on planet Earth instead of being sky high, she didn't know either. And why were they on her land? Did the great bounties of being a god not compare to her humble home?

"What are they, exactly, these gods, other than just cats with wings? Do they find themselves specialy somehow? If we play our numbers game right, we can definitely take them down..."

"It is. " The male snorted, ears twiching in annoyance. "Worst o' all, now stuff ca' swoop down from th' sky too. " He gorwled to himself at that idea, looking up for a moment as if challenging some winged lion to come down on him.

"But y'know, maybe they do other stuff. " He frowned. "Remember that blue ugly thin'? " His nose wrinklet when remembering Mrost. "I dunno how, but he didn't have thos' wings 'n spikes 'n horns, 'n shiney stuff when we first saw him. " That was something to muse about. Though Tibuka didn't dare say it, he think Mafa herself had been quite startled when the god showed his true self.

Mafa's head too quickly jerked up, scanning the skys, almost expecting to see something hairy barrel down at them. But there was no such event, thankfully, the skies above her lands were clear. As far as she was concerned, the air and sky around here were hers too, she didn't want some damn lions gliding around up there.

"Bastards..."

Mafa growled in anger, her ears flattening back unhappily. She thought back to Mrost, how he had changed and looked almost like a normal lion to begin with. Did they hold powers that she didn't know about? It was surely possible.

"How the hell do they do that, and why can't we?"

"We donno, thas the problem! " He growled. The lack of knowledge was one of the first things, especially if it was such a big threat.

"'n how the heck do we git them if they're outta reach? They can do like birds! Swoop down, swipe, fly up. " Ears flattened, shoulders hunched, almost like bracing himself. Thoughts were quite effective on Tibuka, whenever he actually did it.

"An' Mafa.. I dunno, but those scummy lionz at the other side of the graveyard.. There be gettin' more, I cansmell it sometimes. " He said. "What if they're getting these winged bastards? " The male turned his neck around to look as well behind him as he could, towards the lands where the Maziko where staying. What if...

Mafa huffed harshly, her gaze dashing around the graveyard. They could lob bones or rocks at them. But that seemed pathetic at best. They only way they could compete with this threat was to grow wings themselves.

"Leave it to us hyenas, godless heathens, to be taken like this"

Her voice rung with cold, heartless sarcasm. There were no hyena gods that she knew of, hell, there were no other regular packs that she knew of, this was the last strong-hold. No damn flying lions were going to break this pack, they'd find a way around it, somehow...

"Whelping again, on my soil are they? Perhaps we need to take preemptive and take them out before their eyes even open. A god is living just like any other creature, it was born and it loves and breathes. It has to have a weakness, Tibuka, and we need to find it."

"They have to have aweakness.. "

The male grumbled, standing up pawing at the gray-ish dirt in the graveyard, looking down at his paws, messing around with with the dirt, rethinking what Mafa said.

"Loves and breathes.. " He said to himself, sitting down again and looking up. Wait, what if.. "Mafa, why would they be down here, if they have up there all to themselves? 'He asked suddenly, looking back at Mafa. "They may be flying, or have powers, but what if they 'like', or love, any lion down here? " He was saying this partially to himself, though addressing Mafa. He moved in a tight circule.

"We could get those, weaken the stupid dopes, pluck their feathers one by one.. " He murmured. "When they're miserable, they probably won't even fly, that'd leave a break! " He said confidently, sitting down. "Love, Mafa, thats what damns lions! "

Mafa listened to Tibuka's musings through folded ears, her own mind tumbling with thoughts on the subject as well. This was indeed quite a predicament, but the female was determined. No way would those damn lions have them beat, wings or no wings.

As Tibuka mentioned love, Mafa looked to him sharply. She had just had a conversation about love with Shira, the subject was still fresh in her mind. The alpha grinned maliciously, the image of a suffering lying having his feather's plucked slowly by her dancing in her head. What a lovely fate!

"We take what they love and kill it, brilliant, and simple, it might just work..."

In a way, Mafa was glad that she didn't trifle with love, it left her with many less weaknesses, and that, she could definitely live with.

The male smiled, tail twiching behind him. "Think about a lioness, for example. How miserable would she be if you killed her cubs, one by one, right in front of her? " He paced from one side to another, pondering.

"Gods must be just the same, and as far as we konw, there are probably females too. " He snorted. Imagine those things, spawning over here at the graveyard. "Lions are fools. " He growled.

Mafa chortled grimly, the image of the lioness watching them kill off her cubs joining the other sadistic medley in Mafa's head. She didn't want these thoughts to remain just that, thoughts. No, she wanted them to become actions, and soon they would. Her 'army' of sorts was growing up, soon they'd be ready to fight.

"Females, of course, they have to reproduce somehow..."

Mafa cringed at the thought. Lion reproduction. It was disgusting. Their procreation. As was everything about them, so this was no exception. Mafa nodded, confirming Tibuka. Fools, coupled with every other curse known to their language. But even that didn't cover her disdain for them.

"The pack is growing, have you noticed Tibuka? And not just in numbers, but the pups are getting older. They and the newcomers need to be trained..."

She wasn't exactly suggesting that he'd be the one to do all the training. Oh no, Mafa wanted to get involved with that. But he'd of course be helping, as his rank demanded.

The male nodded, disgusted. Lions were so.. Blergh. They were foul, disgusting creatures, not to mention butt ugly.

But now, she talked about the pack, and the male blinked, ears pricked towards the alpha, listening curiously. yes.. The pack was growing, getting stronger, pups were getting older..

"Training, yes.. " He murmured, tail twiching, then grinned. "And when we're strong enough, we can take them out, bit by bit, letting the others panic.. " He grinned maliciously, lowering his head, cyan eyes twinking with amusement as if he wached a piteous lion wailing in terror.

"About training, though.. What should we do? '

Mafa nodded firmly, yes, strength. Strength and numbers, that's what would get the hyenas anywhere in this place. With those two aspects, they'd simply skim over the lions lands with as little effort as needed, and the lands would belong to them... Belong to Mafa.

"We should lead... By example I suspect. And when the understand the concept, we drill it into their skulls."

Mafa huffed, she had had plans to take a trip into the lion territory for quite a while, bring back something good, like the corpse of a lion perhaps.

"Yes. It would probably work for Mabozi too. The wild dog, d'you think that thing would be usefull? " Kellelo wasn't going to grow up strong, probably. But who knows? Maybe she could do some help, she did seem to trust the hyenas well enough, though he hadn't seen her reaction to lions.

"We've already had fights with lions, we could tell them their weak points, too. We could tell them how to make them helpless. "
